URGENT - Q10 + Android 7 + Kodi 17.1

Alright, Kodi officially did it this time.
17.1 does NOT work with the Q10's remote control. I tried everything, uninstall, reinstall the latest nightly build, nothing worked.

I finally decided that I had suffered enough with all of Kodi 17's issues and finally got rid of this virus and reinstalled Kodi 16.1
BAM, all and I mean ALL my problems were resolved:
1- No more disconnections when downloading stuff, refrshing my library
2- No more of this skin non-sense and this P.O.S. posterwall
3- Remote works again perfectly

Kodi 16.1 will have to do until I either build myself a decent HTPC and stop dealing with those chinese Android boxes or find one that is 200% compatible with Kodi...

I gave SPMC a try and the remote wasn't workign at all. I was forced to use the Airmouse. As for VidOn, gave me tons of error messages and Addons list was empty. I didn't explore VidOn further as I am honestly tired of fighting with the Q10 to get what I need from it...

So warning to all who like me don't want to spend their spare time fighting the green Android dude, just go back to Kodi 16.1.
Kodi 17 will NEVER work on the Q10 it seems. I'd love someone here to prove me wrong but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

SPMC is working properly on my Q10 Pro. Remote was working on Kodi 17 RC3 and on Kodi 17 final. Something is fishy in your setup. IR remote should not be influenced by software in any way, not the way you described it.

Same here.
Went back to 16.1 and all issues were gone.
I cannot use my beloved Eminence 2 mod skin since it is Krypton only, but i'd rather have a working media center.


Apart from small issues like crashes, sudden remote unmapping, streaming issues,
loading animations when entering video addons, loading animations when opening a video, loading animations when closing a video
and being unable to listen to music... KODI 17 worked like a charm.

Hi There,

The normal Q10 suddenly didn't Work after updating KODI to 17.1 RC3.....after studying some Forums I Forums..

Keep Pressing OK-Button = Is the new Menu-opening
Del- Button= Is the new back- function........


....Only inside KODI...If you Watch Movies i.e.started from KODi, playing with wrapper you have to use known Buttons until you' re back in kodi

If you consider a remote control a "setup" then by all means tell me what could possibly be wrong with it. This isn't some elaborate home theater or PC that I built. It's an Android box with a remote control. I use Kodi 16.1 (and all previous builds) without a single issue. I install Kodi 17, bam, nightmare.
Everyone here, including Futeko, experienced the remote issues with the Q10 in general after upgrade to Android 7. But that issue, is unrelated to the Kodi 17.1 problem.

I install SPMC. No remote. I can only use the "mouse" pointer option of the remote to navigate. If you know what could be the issue here, please do share it with everyone. Because SPMC by default, doesn't work with the Q10's remote.

ViDon, I just don't have the patience or energy to research. I get some crap error message when I first load it, then add-ons don't work at all. I am not bothering trying to resolve it.

I am just happy I got Kodi 16.1 back. I disabled auto-update and I personally don't even care anymore about what future firmware updates might bring to the box. In its current state, with Kodi 16.1, it more than suit my needs.

It must be a problem with your setup  ! I have a Q10 with the official remote control and have NO problems with Android 7/Kodi 17.1 installed.

Even the mod from Futeko faced the same problem and somehow got lucky with one of the nightly builds.

The remote works PERFECTLY, it is not defective. The issue is with Kodi 17.x itself.

These 2 issues until resolved makes it completely unusable:

1- Downloads/connection in general is unstable. It takes me 2-3 tries to download a single subtitle. It fails one or two times before FINALLY downloading, and even then, the download of a 15kb file takes a minute!
Same thing with refreshing a single movie in my library. I have to repeat it twice to "take" and show me the movie info

2- Remote control issues as of v17.1. When you first start it, you get some crap message about some new input device detected. Select "No", you're doomed like I was. Select "yes" and you dont get an option to choose a remote. Only some controller, an obvious reference to the Shield being the only Android device for Kodi's development team.

I'm done with experimenting. I am back to Kodi 16.1 and everything has been resolved.

We can all understand your frustration (I was very upset with the 17.1 update myself and there is an existing thread here on the remote issue) but as already detailed above, the remote does still work, just not in the way intended 
I am still using Kodi 17.1 (installing the nightly version did not fix my remote issues either) as my TV library is up-to-date with what I have watched.  Of course, I am using the alternative button pushes for Back and Menu.  It is still usable.....

SPMC does work fine so I'd suggest downloading from PlayStore and re-installing again so you have another alternative (and then keep both).

A third alternative (for movies & TV only) to install and try is the simple leanback, Archos Media Player.  If you follow @looun's detailed install instructions, it works quite well, including HD audio;  http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1786.0

Remember that the built-in MediaCenter still plays everything you can throw at it (and the remote works perfectly  ).  It just misses the fancy visual front-end.
