Windows 10 Upgrade offer
« on: May 14, 2015, 10:42:31 AM »
Hi.

Getting an icon in start bar offering Windows 10 upgrade to device when available.

Anybody thinking of upgrading ?

Noticed that 64bit version of Windows 10 takes up 20GB, 32Bit take 16GB install, and you loose a few features.

Thanks

When did you get the upgrade app appear in your tray? I am yet to see it despite being completely up to date.

Still nothing for me, I wonder if its because I have done a reinstall using the files from Mele? Windows is reporting that it is fully activated though.

Is the update file marked in this article (http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-to-get-windows-10-for-free-essential-advice-for-users-of-windows-7-8-and-81-11363987359559) installed? KB3035583?

Herein lies the problem.
Windows update reports that the update isn't installed but when attempting to install manually Windows reports that it is already there. There were a couple of files with this id that I have deleted but makes no difference.

I will ask Mele on Monday.

A solution may end up being to reinstall Windows.

Mele say that they've had no other reports of this problem and don't know how to fix it.

I suggest reinstalling from scratch. It will almost certainly resolve what seems to be Windows update having got itself confused about the status of the update package.

I have now done a complete reinstall and allowed windows update to install all the updates, the upgrade icon is still not present. I eventually managed to find a link to the required update package, this installed but still no luck.
My thoughts are that the image supplied by from your link is somehow incomplete, perhaps the 300mb difference?. I am going to download the one direct from Mele to see if this solves the problem.

None of the methods I have tried have any success, including the methods using the batch file and test.
My suspicion is that the image downloaded has been compiled from an Enterprise  (or some other non-qualifying) version of Windows meaning that even though it says it is registered it wont qualify for the upgrade????

If this isn't the case then my main concern ISNT the lack of the upgrade app it is what else may be corrupt on my install?

Also of concern, now, is the fact that I have just run the activation check from the Mele website but when I look on my unit to confirm the numbers there is only one label with a number beginning `M` , the other label with the reference number that should reference is not there and shows no sign of ever having been there.
