TV Screen goes black for 3 seconds
« on: October 04, 2016, 12:01:57 AM »
Hello
I have a HiMedia Q10 Pro player with the latest fireware and its connected to my Denon 2200W Receiver and its connected to Samsung KU8000 4K TV.
I choose in display setting 1080p 60hz because i dont want himedia player to do the upscaling instead of tv.
but i have a strange problem:
if the resolution on the himedia is set to 1080 60hz  the tv goes black for 2-3 randomly(no video, audio keeps going)
if i set the res to 2160p 60hz the problem disappear.
i tried different cables, different input both on tv and receiver but still problem persist.
Please Help!

Looks like a HDMI/HDCP capabilities handshake happening? At the start of a movie this can be normal (frame-rate change) but during playback this should not happen.

If you are talking about happening just once just after the start of a movie then this is probably due to auto frame-rate. I presumed it happens more often and also during advanced playback. The TV switches then to 24P. You can turn off this feature for a test.

1) Does it happen when bypassing the AMP? Try different HDMI ports on AMP and TV too.
2) Can you try a different TV? Taking the media player to a different TV is the easiest way to do this test.
3) Does it happen with all type of media or just with specific formats?

Does not look like a cable problem as a higher resolution works well. With this we know a bit more already.

Once in the beginning (first minutes) or randomly during the total movie?

I am facing a similar issue with Denon 2113 AVR too but with 1080p 60Hz resolution set on the Q10 Pro. It turns out that if I have any kind of video upscaling settings enabled then the screen will go blank every now and then. I have noticed that this happens whenever the screen has bright colored images (even opening the app drawer would do it). For now I have disabled all video processing/upscaling on the AVR and things are better. Only drawback is the screen overlay doesn't work either and for volume settings I need to look at the AVR front panel. Not sure if it matters or not but I have Samsung Plasma TV and if I turn off the AVR and let the pass through send direct signal to TV there is no problem whatsoever. I conclude that there is some issue with the AVR not being able to process certain colors put out by Q10 pro ( changing the color setting from YCbCr 4:4:4 also helps.

Looks like a capabilities mismatch for the video signal to me. This probably triggers a handshake causing blanking. At the beginning this is most likely an auto frame-rate switching side effect. TV's mostly handle this unnoticed but many AMP's do a new HDMI/HDCP handshake as the consequence also resulting in a few seconds blanking. My Onkyo NR609 causes this too, but happens only once. I have all Video processing features turned of on both Q10 Pro and my AMP.
