In the MediaCentre when I press "Menu" for HDD and then "OK" in Chinese popup, it ejects the HDD.
But the DVD drive never shows up here. It is seen only in under File Manage app, if disc is inserted.

Could be good news. It means that potentially a nice ICON can be added for BD/DVD ROM with a nice disc presence indicator and a disc eject function.
Futeko you may consider this as a feature request.

We got a long way in a single day. Nice to see how a community can work together.
What we are stillmissing is the report if it works also combined with KODI?

Also hearing more practical experiences would be good. Thus far we got 2 brands/models working and none reported failing.

Think about this scenario buying a Pioneer BDR-XD05B Writer (=powered via USB3) for about 105 Euro (100 Dollar in the US):
- Connect it to your Laptop PC to burn your DVD's and above all BD's
- Connect it to Q10 or Q5 to play AVI, MKV and Unprotected Videos burned with it (best chance that it can be read again correctly is using the same drive)
- Connect to your Laptop PC to play commercial protected BD/DVD Videos using PowerDVD or equivalent.
Very nice compact setup when being on the road for whatever reason. Might go for it myself?
Obviously that Laptop PC can be a NUC also.

I only tested it with the Native player and the DVD/BD drive is not visible over there, so assuming Kodi would be the same.

It is currently only possible to access the disks via the file browser. Once you load a disk, file browser automatically mounts it and makes it available to use..

This what I guessed, now it is confirmed. Still some work to be done for Himedia.

I have requested that attached DVD/BD be made available to all apps and that an eject function is added,

afss, what file manager you are using?
I try to connect my BD-ROM CT10N HL-DT-ST drive to USB 3.0 and default Himedia FileManger don't see it

I am using a SATA BD-drive with an USB2.0 adapter.

it only mounts the drive if there is a disk inserted, otherwise it does not show up.

Regards.

very interesting!
I have too the SATA BD-drive (HL-DT-ST CT10N) and two types adapters SATA to USB 2.0 and SATA to USB 3.0. I have tried with both and both didn't visible in FileManager  (DVD disk inside at booting)

The player is in general not working with all DVD's yet. I have several which don't play. Better to try with a BD.

Would be surprised if there are no timing issues anyway. A  ROM drive is so different to a HDD regarding timings that I was extremely surprised it worked at all.

And just to add, only unencrypted disks (either DVD or BD).
