How do I access attached drives (internal or USB HDD) via WiFi in Windows?

I'm hoping someone can provide some additional instruction so I can copy files from Windows directly to an installed HDD over WiFi.  The best I seem to be able to do is:

- View HiMedia device from within Windows and what seems to be the internal storage.  Is external/installed storage found within one of the folders?  Which one?
- I've turned SAMBA service on...I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Intent is to be able to install directly to Q10 instead of copying files to a external hdd, plugging in, and copying within Q10. 

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, this is how it works for me.
There are two ways.
1. Turn samba on. Check on file explorer under Network, you should see Android something visible.
sda (\\ANDROID_AA7DD\share\media_rw) is how you should see it.
If you have both internal and external disks you should see two.
sda1 (\\ANDROID_AA7DD\share\media_rw)
sdb1 (\\ANDROID_AA7DD\share\media_rw)
2. Install from playstore FTP File Transfer app. Start it, and the free app should open an ftp port, you see the exact address under settings. Also there you configure the shared folder.
THEN, you go to laptop and open FILEZILLA (fastest), configure it to open the above address, and there you go, FASTEST file tranfer to both internal or USB HDDs.

After enabling Samba, you need to find out its IP or its hostname and just browse to it (using Windows File Explorer or any other file manager) from any computer connected to the local network. IP is visible in Settings, accessible from the default launcher. Hostname should be visible there too. This would be solution 1 from mihailuican. FTP seems a little too difficult for a new user.

Best to allocate a fixed IP (from your router) for the Q10.  Windows seems to prefer this and finds the network Share.  Samba must definitely be on. 
If you follow the above instructions and still cannot find the drive, check firewall/anti-virus software as this can also stop network access.

I've never been able to access the internal 3'5" HD drive of Q10 Pro (or even the unit itself for that matter) through SMB and I've tried nearly anything. FTP works flawlessly, always. I can access without problem the attached sata drive on my Dreambox through samba (OpenPli)  and it's a pity why I cannot see Q10 drives in my home network through samba.

Same here. I can access the Q10 Pro through FTP, but it's SAMBA couldn't be ever seen on my Win7 PC. I can only see it as a "Media Device" that just opens the Windows Media center.

Edit: I have SMB v1 enabled for sure (Win7)

I have a feeling that it requires SMB1.0, you may want to check that your version of Windows has this protocol installed. By default it should be, but some people uninstalled it when recent security concerns were raised with viruses attacks.

I know my tplink router usb hdd cannot be accessed without SMB1.
