Problems after factory reset (Help, help!)
« on: September 19, 2015, 05:41:54 PM »
I did a factory reset and then KODI stopped working (like it had been uninstalled)

I then used the 1.0.4 firmware to get KODI back but... KODI started then reset back to the homescreen.
Started it again and now it just hangs on a black screen.

Have tried reinstalling the firmware a few times and every time it's the same.

I wanted to install a new homescreen but I found that the inbuilt MediaPlayer (that that reads from USB) can't be found in the apps list.

Please help!

Go into APPS Settings and fully deinstall Kodi from your box. Including cache etc. Then download kodi APK from kodi.tv and do a fresh install. (Download on PC on USB Stick e.g. and then use a file explorer on the h8 to install)

Okay, managed to install KODI from the website, thanks for that.

I now have another problem if someone can help.

I am unable to direct stream any 1080 footage over the network, it's like the unit has a problem with either the internal cache or the network throughput.

All this works fine on any of my Android tablets or phone.
It also works fine on a cheap Sky Now box with RarFlix installed.

I have managed to get KODI 14.2 installed now also, I had to extract it from the update.zip and manually install it from USB.

I noticed that there is major network buffering problems but it's not just KODI but the internal Media Player that also suffers.

Once you start playing something like my 1080 rip of a latest Marvel film it stops after just a few seconds, this seems to be because the player never pulls data into the cache while playing from the cache it's built (ring-buffer isn't working how it should). This is playing at about 11mbps.

Anything at around 6mbps seems to be playing just fine but I guess this is because it doesn't use any cache.

How did you install the firmware? If through the menus please install using the reset button method to wipe internal flash and get a clean install.

I will pass on your info about Kodi and stuttering streams. It sounds like a kop out, but there will be a new firmware hopefully this week that should address a lot of these problems. If you can give me specific instructions on the streams then I can test with the beta version of new firmware we have here.

I tried using the Reset Button and that would not let KODI work at all
I also tried using the internal updater but that would let KODI run only once
Lastly I tried a software reset and then a Reset Button Update... still nothing.

It isn't just KODI that suffers from bad stuttering on heavy 1080 footage, it's the HIMEDIA player too (over wifi and cable network)

It's like there is something wrong with the firmwares network settings too.
