Android TV based OS for Q5/Q10 Pro - petition
« on: November 27, 2016, 12:00:41 PM »
Dear HiMedia / Futeko,

Can you make Android TV based OS for Q5/Q10 PRO media players ?

Smartphone based OS can't give us 100% satisfaction:
- smartphone version of apps - we need airmouse
- no mirroring from smartphone/tablet
- can't play Spotify from my phone (Spotify Connect)
- can't play (remote) Youtube from smarthopne/tablet
- can't mirror my desktop PC
- etc...

Android TV give beter UX when you use many of services (Netflix, Spotify etc).  It's very comfortable when you can use normal/simple remote without airmouse to change subtitle, audio, rewind forward, ... on the Netflix and any other app with TV version.

Q5/Q10 both are the best hardware solution for the media player based on the Android. Himedia competitors with worst hardware specification  have got TV based version of Android OS (Nvidia Shield, Xtreamer Express).

Give us some answer...

I would love to have the best of the 2 worlds. It is a little difficult because of licensing issues. You cannot really have a Android TV with a very good compatibility for apps.

First they may have to solve the more annoying issues, like no 4:2:0 8bit mode (only at 4K res and 60Hz), DVD deinterlace and compatibity, and screensaver or dimmer for HiPlayer...

The 2.0.0 topic is full with -new and remaining- bug reports, and pendig. I just hope that the most annoying ones of them were only particual and the real situation with the new fw is not that bad, but will wait a couple of mre days to see it clearer...

But yeah, it's a bit funny that they stick with the Smartphone Android, while most of the 3rd party apps cannot be controlled with the stock remote. (But it's an easy jump to get an airmouse...)

OK, but if you choose Openelec or Librelec you can use only KODI at all.

There are many Pro's and Con's for running either version. Have media players from both camps and I can assure you a lot more APP's won't install from the Play Store and many neither via a manual install. The reason is plain and simple there are a lot more APP's developed for smartphones than for media players and smart TV's.

For Q10 Pro it is a differentiator now as most are in the Android Leanback Camp (not exactly the same as Android TV, standard TV's will mostly be labeled "Smart-TV powered by Android).  Following this strategy a lot more needs to be developed in-house. As long as Himedia stays prepared to do the extra work I am for keeping as it is.

I agree, but for me "media player" it's device generaly for playing media - video, audio, photo. This's main service and any other services are in lower priority. Main service must be over the top compare to others when you use it with remote/phone/etc.

For now in the Q10 PRO  it's not quite good when you want comfortable use it to play media files.

Android TV i much better than Smartphone Version to play media.

I've got Roku Player and it's brilliant with Netflix, YouTube, Vevo, screen mirroring and.... that's it. Roku has got his own OS and only a few apps. Popcorn Hour has got his own OS and... only a few apps.

To me, Himedia'd better to improve the current version (even with 5.1) than make a new FW. Android TV is way different than current Firmware, thus if they choose Android TV, it will take forever to iron out every bugs from beginning.
The current FW compatible with many apps and almost all of them run smoothly. The only problem here is media features itself. And I agree that it is the first priority, rather than new firmware, change to Android TV or other OS, ect.

Agree, for now all issues to fix, next step new OS, optimized for playing media.
