Hi,

Some times, Hicontrol at startup, after tapped on my Q5 Pro IP, says me "Server Refused the device to access".

What does it mean?
How can i solve it?

Hicontrol was ok for a while, but yesterday it responds so. To be honest, it gives me that message after test hicontrol on another device (Android PAD), after that, when i use hicontrol on my smartphone, it doesn't work.

Thx!

I've never seen that message or had customers report it. My guess would be that it is Hicontrol telling you that you can only have one instance of Hicontrol per Q5/Q10 Pro (or maybe on a network). That you receive it after starting a second instance of Hicontrol on a second device and the message text would both indicate this.

I will ask for clarification from HiMedia but it looks like only one instance of Hicontrol per Q5/Q10 Pro.

Also, i had have same message, once, at the very first time (without any other devices).

Thanks very much.

Hi,

What happens if multiple Hicontrol instances try to access the same device?
I see no pairing controls here which in fact should be included. Do consider it a serious design/security flaw now thinking about it.
The simplest implementation would be asking for a confirmation when Hicontrol asks for access, but a pairing procedure using an agreed password + MAC Address or Serial number is far better. One can also look at how " Samsung SideSync" with similar goals and features implements this.

If only single access is possible (which should be the case) then this is a nice way to frustrate your neighbor (on purpose, as a joke or accidental)  :'(
One can look over your shoulder also this way. Depending what you actually all do with the box this can be pretty serious

A flaw in the Wi-Fi security setup is already enough to cause this to be enabled. With children around the house the chance is fairly big they enable access for (neighboring) friends with or without telling you.

I would first try to stop all APP's using the broom APP and clean all loaded APP's using Notification Bar.
If it does not help a re-install might be needed.

@Futeko I would ask Himedia about the security implementation behind this feature.

Well,

First of all, i don't use two devices at same time.
In past i used a tablet with hicontrol and all works.
With my smartphone,  in the past, i've controlled himedia (without screen mirror, but this is another problem).
Now i can't use totally. I don't know why.
I reinstall hicontrol many times, restart himedia many times.
Also i don't use they for a month (holiday)... But nothing.
It doesn't work.

I reinstall hicontrol many times
That won't help. It is a Server message
, restart himedia many times.
Himedia players don't unload their memory with a restart and won't help either. Just look at APP's loaded in memory using the Notification Bar after a standby cycle (all still there). This surprised me really.
Also i don't use they for a month (holiday)... But nothing.
If kept power connected does not help either, see previous remark. Never tried if a power unplug really resets the device?
It doesn't work.

Already tried the broom or powerplug cycle? That one cleans memory and stops all APP which are not permanently loaded.
If nothing helps, do a full re-install with pin procedure first.

Thank you Nice Monkey.

Can you explain me what's:
- broom
- powerplug cycle?
- full re-install with pin procedure first.

Many, many thanks!

Many, many thanks!

a) The broom is the APP on the main panel with a broom on it for wiping the floor. in this case memory.
b) A Powerplug cycle is disconnecting the power from the Himedia physically by unplugging and inserting it again after a minute.
c) Is Firmware re-install as documented in detail by Futeko

Thanks,

unfortunally i tried all of them:
a)
b) unplugged for a months (holiday)
c) just reinstall 1.0.7 firmware with futeko procedure.

I think there's some cache saved on Himedia, and have to delete manually. Otherwise i don't know, how i can solve this.

There's no way to contact someone in Himedia to know why it doesn't work.  >:(

SOLVED!!

Previous issues was because i used my phone as Access Point (with hotspot wifi sharing).
- no mirror screen
- and (lastly) message "server refused..."

Today i've tried to configure Q5 with sharing wifi.
Connecting my phone to that wifi network and .... all goes well!

No "server refused" message, and (first of all), I SEE MIRROR SCREEN on my phone.

Bye

@Oktober: Good for you. Thanks for sharing.
@Futeko: My security worries remain.  Should include a pairing process prior to connecting.
