DAC and other audio settings DUNE HD Ultra Vision 4k
« on: September 12, 2022, 05:49:13 PM »
So, the Dune HD Ultra Vision 4k has a dedicated stereo dac out (XLR/rca). In audio settings you can choose "xmos" and then you get stereo generated through the dac of the Dune HD player. But, when you want to go to for instance watching a movie and you do nothing on the settings (movie audio is on hdmi out), then I get no sound. I have to set the dac audio out settings on "none" to get sound in movies or series or whatever. Next to that, the Dune has more settings via the system settings on audio and there output settings on "RAW" changes back all the time to "LPCM", and native output alway changes to out. Whatever i do first, or next, or the other way around, i have to keep changes settings to get the sound output i want. Can anyone elaborate on this?

Work to do for the Dune enigineers then.
Obviously The DAC requires downmixing any Audio source to 2CH/LPCM.

The same happens with Zidoo players but amongst others on my own request they:
- Coupled the HDMI/XMOS output change with a matched RAW/LPCM implicit output change.
- Added an option to couple a colored key to toggling Audio Output HDMI/XMOS

This way using the remote one can go from Music to Movies optimized output.

Yes, and another thing is that when you play music through the xlr-balanced or rca-out, you have to assign this output on your AVR on another source than the HDMI output. I get that, but no tv-screen anymore. You cannot access your tv for Dune menu. Only way to control music play is through music app on a phone or tablet. Furthermore, the audio settings menu is confusing. HDMI-out can have the setting 'hi-fi audio out', but it is not clear if you have to put Dac output on xmos. When you don't, you get multichannel music but i don't know if this is original rate (or so to speak: untouched source), or down mixed. When you select xmos on the dac settings, the HDMI output doesn't play sound anymore. And then most of the time in the android system settings in audio settings, the automatic source sample rate is switched off. And as i mentioned; from RAW to LPCM. Dune has to sort of 'simplify' these settings and switching. When you play hifi music, f.i DSD files or an iso through the DAC output, it sounds gorgeous! You can notice that this mediaplayer has great potential. But the way to it....;-)

My Onkyo AMP lets me select an RCA port but keeping the HDMI Video passing to my TV.
That should be possible normally with any HT AMP.

"HiFi audio out" enables HDMI to keep the original PCM sample-rate and sample-size passing it RAW to the AMP. If not set standard Android 48K at 16-bit will be used instead for any HDMI Music output. The DAC will always pass any PCM/DSD audio source format directly and is not related to that settting.

ook uit Nederland toch? Maar Engels hier vanwege de andere gebruikers? Anyway: ok, I understand the difference between HDMI-out and hifi-audio (dac)-out. But still; I can't use both with their own settings at the same time. When 'xmos' is selected as source for hifi audio out (dac), there is no sound through HDMI. I have to select 'none' to get sound through HDMI. And when i want to use 2-channel dac output (via xlr/rca) i have to select 'xmos' in the audio hifi settings. But i can't do both at the same time. My Yamaha CX-A5200 pre-processor can do the same, but it is the Dune that switches through when set on 'xmos' so there is no tv screen access anymore through HDMI.

Strange Video should remain available via HDMI concurrently with Audio via RCA/XLR.
I am pretty sure my testing with the Max did that. The player obviously must work without using an APP on a phone.

Concurrent sound via HDMI and RCA/XLR on other hand is not possible it seems. Neither Zidoo can do that.

Yes English for the forum I am Dutch indeed. Nederlands only via P.M. to be used.
