Playback of DV-files with a newer build of Kodi?
« on: July 27, 2021, 06:48:55 PM »
Has anyone managed to get DV in .mkv-files to playback correctly with some newer build of Kodi on the Dune Pro Vision Solo? If so, which version of Kodi are you using? The internal player and system player seem to playback DV fine, but I haven't managed to make Kodi to playback DV properly.

Vanilla Kodi on Dune uses software playback so doesn't fully utilise the Realtek video chipset. This means lower performance and no support for DV, HDR10, or some 4K (bitrate dependent).

Some boxes get around this by modifying Kodi so it calls the hardware player for local playback (e.g. Himedia+wrapper or Zidoo ZDMC).

The changes needed are detailed here: https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Use_external_players_on_Android

This (paid) app does the the same with more options but I'm not sure it would work with Dune: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hu.xmister.xbmcwrapper&hl=en&gl=US

I'm not sure either of the above will work on Dune.

Has anyone got external player to work with the new Dune boxes?

Thanks! I've been wondering why I see brightness changes when displaying content and using frame-by-frame analysis for HDR tonemapping with my projector JVC DLA-N7 both with the internal and system players + with Oppo 203, but not when HDR-content is being played with Kodi. I presume that Kodi does not output the metadata at all to the projector for tonemapping purposes and hence also no brightness pumping then either...
