HiMedia Q5 4K3D Quad Core English Version...

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the world of media streamers so bare with me as I learn my way around.
I just set up my new Q5 4K3D streamer and although it's been an exercise in patience,
things are starting to work slowly. First I had to figure out how to network (I'm on a Mac,
it's a pain in the neck but I got it working) and once that was out of the way, I
encountered the following two issues:

1) I can't seem to get DolbyTrueHD movies to stream properly. They stutter/jitter/skip frames.

2) I've gone through the step-by-step tutorial for setting up 3D but I'm not sure how to get
    the 3D content to my streamer. Am I correct in assuming I can run my 3D-MVC MKV file
    through TSMuxer to create an iso then name it something like, "movie title.bluray.3d.iso" ?




A little background info:

I purchased this unit from Amazon: It's the lastest one, I think:

It's running the latest firmware patch:
( Q5 4K3D. 18-SEP-2015. FIRMWARE HMD-3.0.1.1 FUTEKO-EN. // Internal build number: HMD-3.0.1 2015-09-07.184046 )


And It's running on Kodi 15.2 Isengard

I'm running 1:1 MKV files (18GB - 36GB) from my Macbook Pro.

Let me know if this is a common issue and if there is a fix. If not, maybe we can ask for one. The box is
marketed as supporting Dolby TrueHD and I'd love to keep it but if it's not gonna work, my return window
is rapidly closing.

EDIT: I figured out how to resolve the 3D issue! Turns out my receiver had video processing turned on. Once I shut
it off, the 3D came through! So that just leaves my Dolby TrueHD issue. Movies with a TrueHD soundtrack still jitter/stutter...

The problem with TrueHD sounds like it might be an insufficient data throughput problem.

How have you got the Q5 connected to the network? How is the Macbook connected to the network?

If either are using wi-fi then I think that's probably the problem. Wi-fi can be marginal with demanding files, and 3D True-HD is about as demanding as it gets.

You may get better results by locating either Macbook or Q5 closer to the router. Or alternatively, a wired LAN connection is always more stable with higher data throughput.

Thank you for getting back to me. Well, the whole thing is wired into my gigabit network. I actually figured out how to resolve all this, yesterday, though.
At least, how it pertains to my setup. So, here's the deal:

1> DTS-MA movies worked fine in MKV container

2> Dolby TrueHD movies did not work in MKV format. They stuttered/jittered unless I switched to standard Dolby Digital 5.1. Then they ran fine.
     So I tried making an ISO image of a Dolby TrueHD bluray and it worked. So, I'm going to just make ISOs from my Dolby movies.

3> The 3D not coming through was an issue I had because my AVR (my receiver) had video processing turned on. Once I shut of off in the
     "pass-thru" mode, 3D ISOs worked perfectly AND carried HD Audio!

So, I'd say I'm good to go. Although, I don't know who I can talk to about this, but it would be great if:

- the Q5 supported skiping chapters in bluray and dvd MKVs and ISOs
- it would also be cool if you could get forced subtitle support in MKVs and ISOs as well.
- if the HiMediaWrapper video player filled my screen (right now, it leaves a little black around the sides and top and bottom


Besides that, this setup is PERFECT!

Besides that, this setup is PERFECT!

- the Q5 supported skiping chapters in bluray and dvd MKVs and ISOs If you press the menu button on the remote you should get a menu where you can choose chapter. On ISO you should also be able to skip chapter forward/back using forward back button at top of remote.
- it would also be cool if you could get forced subtitle support in MKVs and ISOs as well. Forced subtitles need improving in Himediaplayer. Himedia know this and will hopefully fix it. Kodi works perfectly for forced subs.
- if the HiMediaWrapper video player filled my screen (right now, it leaves a little black around the sides and top and bottom Settings - Display - Screen size position. Or there may be a setting on your TV for 'fit to screen'. For best quality set Q5 screen scale to maximum and the TV to 'fit to screen'.

Looks like the only real issues left, then, are

1) forced subtitle support
2) the 23.94 -> 24fps microjitters when you watch a 3D BLURAY ISO
3) DVD ISOs have a weird jitter/frame rate thing going on, too.


That's not bad. I mean, other players have HUGE problems and if this is the worst of it,
I can live with it for now!
