Q10Pro firmware 2.0.1 - I'm doing something wrong?
« on: January 25, 2017, 11:55:07 AM »
First - unit was factory default before running the setup.
1. Configure Samba shares in Kodi. Nothing fancy, add network shares (search doesn't find my storage), put user&pass, choose the share.
2. Let Kodi do the indexing.
3. Default, Kodi is using wrapper
4. Play a movie - blank screen. No movie played. No matter x264 or x265. I haven't try dvd iso.
5. Change from My Apss Kody to use Kodi Player.
6. Play a movie - playing. But 720p stuttering a lot! Unusable for x265 and it's barely usable using x264. 1080p works well - but I only played 2 movies for around 10 minutes each. In case of 720p stuttering can appear in the first second a 1-2-3 minutes later.
7. Change shares from SMB to NFS. Same stuttering. And it's not a networking issue! Both Q10Pro and Synology are using 1G to the same switch. Copying from Synology to a USB3 stick in Q10Pro is fast!
8. Change from Kodi player to wrapper.
9. Play movies. Smooth. Excellent image quality! But the known problem with subtitles that are skipped when too soon after the previous one.
10. Factory reset, upgrade Kodi to 7 RC3 and redo from 1 to 9 with no difference.

So 3 problems, more like questions:
- Samba shares with user&pass are not usable by wrapper?
- Massive stuttering on Kodi Player on 720p?
- subtitles.

Are all this 3 observations known? I know subtitles is known and reported to Himedia. But a quick read in the forum doesn't mention the other 2 as confirmed and reported. Only one use mentioned stuttering on 720p.
Can I do something different?
The current setup seems stable and usable once subtitle issue will be fixed.

Instead of doing a factory reset you should do a firmware reinstall. You'll lose some system apps and mess up settings by doing a factory reset. So I advise reinstalling 2.0.1 using restore button method, if that's the firmware currently installed. http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1611.0

Samba shares with password work with wrapper. You need to to enter your Samba details into wrapper app. My Apps - Wrapper.

You shouldn't get major stuttering at 720p using Kodi player / HiMedia player or any other player. The box could handle all 720p with purely software CPU decoding if it had to. You may get minor stuttering if playing in Kodi player without auto-switch add-on installed, but this would be very minor and isn't what you're describing.

The subtitle problem (HiMediaplayer adheres to the specification for subtitles too strictly) is know by HiMedia and they will introduce more tolerance. In the meantime you can use Kodi player or MX player.

I suspect the problems will all be solved by a firmware reinstall.

I did reinstall by using the restore button. I noticed only couple of days ago there's a menu for factory reset. I installed 2.0.1 2 times actually, both using the restore button, first time in the day you published the new image and a second time 2 days later trying to get rid of the stuttering. I have to insist, it only stutters with Kodi Player. No stuttering whatsoever with Wrapper. I have no add-ons installed and, as I said, stuttering is massive!
I can create a dumb read only user on all my storage units to add it in the menu you mentioned. Does Q10 Pro needs to write anything on the storage? I'm asking upfront to avoid any crazy errors after using a read-only username.

The Kodi autoswitch addon might fix the stuttering in Kodi player, although like I've said stuttering shouldn't be massive even without it.

Q10 Pro doesn't need to write anything so a read only Samba user would work fine.
