Loud crackle/static

On my H8 with latest 1.1.2 firmware, when outputting via SPDIF I get at the start of a video very loud crackle/static audio which eventually subsides after several seconds. This is true in the media player and in Plex. LCMF also does it. My stereo system doesnt have HDMI so I cant test with it. My old WD TV Live doesnt cause such issues with my stereo system for reference. My best guess is that watching how the WD TV Live behaves with my stereo my stereo will auto detect playback type (DTS or Dolby Digital) first and then start playing back whereas with the H8 it tries to playback immediately before auto detect has finished. Maybe the audio just needs to be muted for a few seconds upon playback?

And ive seemingly found the problem, optical cable sits loose in the back, wiggling it would make the audio come and go. Even though this cable works fine with my WD TV Live I nonetheless tried a different cable and it works perfectly.
