CS (user pcristi on this forum), creator of excellent custom firmware for Himedia Q5/Q10, has created custom firmware for H8.

This thread is an index to those CS custom firmwares.

What is included in the firmware will change. See individual posts below for release info.

Two versions based on 1.0.7 official, one with a version of Kodi where embedded subtitles and another with working 3D-ISO. It's not possible to have both yet.

Both versions have enhanced interface and more pre-installed apps.

These firmwares are very much beta at the moment. Install them only if you're interested in testing.

* update_octacore_H8(mod&deodex&Kodi_4K)_HMD-1.0.7 2015-11-10.142431.zip --> this have working Kodi with 4K and MediaCenter embedded subtitles
* update_octacore_H8(mod&deodex&Kodi_3D)_HMD-1.0.7 2015-11-10.142431.zip --> this I keep HiMedia Kodi because work BD 3D, not work embedded subtitles MediaCenter, Kodi 4K

"Embedded subtitles work now, external srt still must be UTF-8 for loading proper if is foreign language (english work on ANSI)
Preinstall Kodi look like work better, 4K clips(Sintel, Tears of Steel, BRAVIA TV Feel the Beauty) playing with out problems, DTS-MA, TrueHD on sync, recommended to disable hardware acceleration stagefright on video/acceleration."

I don't think so. Kodi is unchanged.

what is the benefit of this two custom versions if Kodi is unchanged?
The description is to short and to unprecise for me, I think both versions show the "normal" bugs which were discussed in the forum the last two month!

I am waiting for an official further developed FW version.
If this takes still much longer and you describe the advantages of the custom versions more detailed, I am willing to test a version.

Both firmware are deodexed witch make easy to be modified via adb or root.
This firmware are just for testing propose until HiMedia will release new version.
update_octacore_H8(mod&deodex&Kodi_4K) have diferent Kodi wasser-kodi-15.2-lollipop and update need it library for MediaCenter.

I have just the 4K version flashed on the stock recovery (Clean)
When I start Kodi he always switches down to 720p. 4K is not really.
I mus only via the Home button to go to the BoxSettings and set it back to 4K. Then I can then enjoy Kodi in 4K.
Said Big Buck Bunny 4k video then jerky.

I test a little and then go back to the stock 1.0.7

Is there already a new appointment when probably the 1.0.8 comes out?
