Subtitle stays on
« on: May 03, 2017, 05:22:51 PM »
I just watched a movie wich has subtitles very occasionally only. If a subtitle pops up and the next subtitle is supposed to appear lets say after 20 min, the current text stays on screen during the whole 20min. Thats very anoying. Did i miss a setting or is that a bug indeed? could find a setting to cure that. My old mediaplayer hadles this propperly.
(Current Firmware is 2.0.3).
Thanks for any hints in advance.

It's a bad subtitle. Himedia do respect the end time of a certain subtitle. There was a problem when they were skipping the next subtitle when it was too close of the previous one, but other then that there weren't any other problems in either Android 7 releases.

Hi Ralph,

I also assume that this might be due to a bad sub itself - BUT: To double check this, we need more info.

a) Subtitle externally or internally in MKV? (HiMedia handles them differently, so this is always needed as info for subtitles issues).
b) What kind of subs, srt or different?

Regards
Detlev

The subtitle is inside a MKV. If i extract the subtitle with MKVtoolnix, i get two files. One ids file by about 6kb and a sub by about 750kb. the sub looks kryptic inside.

Hi Ralph,

So you have Vobsub within MKV. The "sub" file contains the bitmaps (graphical subs), the "idx" file contains the timings. I will check this constellation on my side later when I'm home.

Anyhow, some general remarks:

1.) vobsubs are ugly (it's the DVD subtitle format with it's limited resolution).
2.) If you find srt subtitles for the same movie, I would just replace them.
3.) You can create srt from vobsub via OCR; there are different tools doing this, for example SubtitleEdit (3.5.2), SubRip (1.56.1), Subtitle Extractor (1032d).
4.) With the latter tools, you can also check if the timings in the idx are the issue or if they are correct and HiMedia has an issue...

But as said, I will double check this on my own, as I find a stable subitle support / implementation one of the most important features at all (and not playing italic srt subtitles for example let's me massively rethink my latest Q5Pro buy and consider to look around once more  >:( ).

Hope it helps
Detlev

I have experienced this as well but only once, for English-Forced sub-titles on one movie.  It was a pain and I kept switching subs on and off with the remote.

All others watched before and since have been fine so it is very likely a one-off subtitle/file issue, not the player itself.
I'd also suggest finding an external srt subtitle file for the movie and remuxing to see if this makes any difference.

me too have same issue.
I suggest: can himedia introduce a timer to auto off subtitle if it remain over xx seconds?
