Zidoo Realtek 1619DR / Re: Zidoo Z1000 Pro, Z10 Pro, Z9X FAQ
« on: April 20, 2022, 05:53:03 AM »
Z10 Pro does not play .AVI files.
Himedia Q10 pro plays OK .Avi files.
Is this right ?
I have both.
what is codec in the .avi files not playing?
Also refer to Divx note above in FAQ.
If you were using kodi in Q10 Pro, then also try using ZDMC on your Zidoo.

ZDMC 19.4 (Kodi fork designed to use Zidoo's player) has been released:
http://apidl.zidoo.tv/app/zdmc-19.4_rtk.apk

loads up fine  :)

Whilst Zidoo keep improving HT4.0, ZDMC is a great alterntive for those of us used to Kodi (especially with large collections/library).
I've been using 19.1 on my Z1000 Pro since new.

Unlike the Q10 Pro, the Zidoo's don't have a rear USB port to enable it to act as an external drive.
If you are using the same HDD, it will most likely be noisier than when it was inside the HiMedia (my 7200rpm 8Tb HGST was very noisy and I have changed to a quiet 5Tb 2.5" laptop drive with an adapter).

You basically need to eject the HDD and use a USB 3.0 dock or adapter for the PC.
The alternative, as you noted, is to use (slower) network file transfer.

Just a quick one - I have an 8TB drive that I used in my previous box (HiMedia Q10 Pro).

It has my collection of films on it.

As the Zidoo Z10 Pro box also runs on Android, if I plug in the HDD from the Q10 Pro into to the Zidoo box, will it recognise the drive and its files? Or will I need to do a fresh format of the drive?
I did exactly this in my Z1000 Pro.  It recognised the 8Tb HDD as soon as it was switched on and can play all the contents perfeclty, with no changes required (was formated NTFS on a PC).

I did find my 8Tb 7200rpm HGST HDD much noisier than when it was inside the Q10Pro.  As per another thread here (suggested by @Nice Monkey), a month later, it has been replaced with a slower 5Tb 2.5" laptop drive and is now virtually silent.

Zidoo Realtek 1619DR / Re: SSD in a Z10 ?
« on: April 02, 2022, 05:08:30 PM »
Followed @Nice Monkey's suggestion here and replaced my rather noisy HGST 7200rpm 8Tb with a 5Tb Seagate 2.5" HDD from an external case and used the Orico HDD conversion rack to fit it to the Z1000 Pro.
It is now virtually silent and I am very happy  8)

The old 8Tb HDD is now in an external USB case (along with quite a few others for plugging into the Zidoo, as required).

BTW for anyone thinking the very cheap "4Tb/8Tb SSD's" from China (found on eBay and other places) are a good idea, they are certainly FAKES!  There is a YouTube of someone opening one up and finding 4 dodgy flash drives wired up together, inside......

Thanks a lot.  That all make sense and the Orico is easily found in Australia  :D
I am looking at a 5Tb external and breaking open the case, as you suggested.  They are considerably cheaper than the internal 2.5" drives.
I am wary about opening a Seagate, however.  A 2Tb 3.5" SSHD for my PC just died on me, after 1 week of use  :'(

yes it will work as many did it.

Question why would you when a 2.5 inch HDD in an 2.5 => 3.5 adapter will achieve the same goals (silent and cool) at far bigger capacities for the same money. The potential speed advantage offers nothing for a media player.

You will need that same adapter anyway for mounting such SSD.
There seem to be quite a few different 2.5" => 3.5" HDD adapters around.  Will the metal ones with screws underneath, or would side screws be better, or even a plastic one perhaps, inside a Z1000 Pro?
A link with photo would be ideal.
Thanks.

I've not seen larger than 5Tb in 2.5" drives but I may just do that and put my 8Tb in an external USB case.

Thanks  for replying , I took my HD from my Hi media Q10 to test the Zidoo unfortunately it suddenly becomes very noisy when inserted in the zidoo and  not in the  hi media q10 for some reason .
So I thought I’d look for something with no moving parts .
I moved my 8Tb HGST HDD from my old Q10 Pro into my new Z1000 Pro.  It does work fine but the drive is much noisier in the Zidoo and also seems to keep being accessed, even when using a NAS or USB HDD for movies.
I have set the drive sleep to 10 minutes in the settings, which seems to work until stopping and starting a movie/tv episode brings it back to life again......
I can see the upside for the silence of an SSD or 2.5" drives but you simply can't get them large enough for the price.

HiMedia Q10 Pro, Q5 Pro / Re: KODI on Q10 PRO not scraping movie info
« on: December 18, 2021, 06:47:44 AM »
Scraping is a Kodi issue (not hardware) and dependant on your skin and the chosen movie scraper for the folder it is pointed at.  Are you on Kodi 19.3?  There was a time when some sources seemed to go off line but they work fine now with the updates.

You are also aware of how to manually download meta data for files or rescan information?  Right click on the file for Information and then rescan.

This player is not licensed for HD Netflix, so you are out of luck.  SD only.
Please read the FAQ.

The HiSilicon chip is unable to decode DV.
It plays HDR10 perfectly (and HDR10+ as this is also backwards compatible).
Suggest you rip to HDR only (or only download HDR videos).

The next step is to consider a new DuneHD or Zidoo player (as sold by Futeko) as the new chip can handle all form of DV and HDR playback.

Check out the detailed review by @Nice Monkey on this forum.  He's been a long time Q10Pro user and now has a Dune HD:  https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=5098.0

These new models are available from Futeko :)

This is a great read.  Thank you so much for your time and effort in providing a detailed review.
I do like the idea of twin HDMI outputs so my AVRKey can be retired!

HiMedia Q10 Pro, Q5 Pro / Re: System crash with hardware reset
« on: June 15, 2021, 08:44:28 AM »
the library was created regularly though; no problem
Kodi can push up memory space requirements slowly until it just runs out....
Best solution is to place a 32Gb SD Card in the slot and use for "expanded memory" in Settings.  Remember to fully back-up Kodi first, as the system is wiped during this process.  The card cannot be removed without re-formatting internal memory.
