Hi Futeko,
How about 4K play at youtube and Turkish characters for subtitles at the native video player?
I am at work now and don't have a chance to download and install for the next 5-6 hours, but I am very impatient for the answer.

Turkish characters should be fixed.

4K Youtube I am not sure about. If not you can get 4K Youtube via OGYoutube: Download and install microG for OGYT: http://www.mediafire.com/download/kwcma5y9n5dlafj/microG_for_OGYT_%28v1.0%29.apk and OGYoutube v2.0: http://www.mediafire.com/download/bc2728mpy5bsu0r/OGYouTube_v2.0.apk.

This is the same as the beta FFS..

Iv been using the beta for a week and tbh If it has taken himedia a month to fix the small issues I have seen fixed then this box really is not fit for purpose.

My pi3 has a better PQ than the q10 in its current state and 4k 10bit video looks crap and is buggy.

I'm in the office, can somebody verify if 10bit is available with the 2160p YCbCr 4.2.0 ?

because it did not work with the last f/w beta 1.0.3, it goes back to 8bit.

thanks

It isn't the same firmware as the leaked beta. File size is different.

How it's changed I don't know yet. It's too late in China to ask. The changelog is official from HiMedia.

hi everyone.... Does anyone know how to disable HDR10 in output mode settings? unfortunately, even if i change it to SDR , it'll not save my changes after reboot... and no matter the option i chose , once rebooted, it'll be back on HDR10.
i even change my display settings to 1080p , but to no avail.... actually, i didn't encounter this issue on the previous firmware.
thanks

You might get that message first time Kodi is run. If it does happen allow Kodi to exit then launch it again. It should auto-download the OBB file and run normally. You'll need to be connected to the internet. It will only need to be downloaded once.

The OBB file is something Google requires for apps larger than 50MB.

Had that message as well. Just started KODI once more and then it initiated correctly. It is seems to be a one time initiaton error.

Followed the Update procedure via Settings => Firmware Update instead of doing an Emergency Bootloader flash re-install via the pin + power-on procedure. The difference is that Update does not clean up all settings and customized APP's added. Runs just fine afterwards with all my changes kept in place.
The first boot took exactly 4 minutes showing the Himedia logo.

For me personally it does not bring very much, but all fixes are welcome. Specifically those for media center and File Manager. The AMP compatibility and HDR compatibility should be the most important fixes making some happy?
Will wait for the bigger release planned originally (as this one was not officially planned). The UI error-message which I did not see for weeks anymore almost popped up immediately once again. Maybe also a one time initiation error?

It is true that there will be a more significant update coming later (I don't know when, but not the next few weeks). This update is a bit of a stop gap.

I've not seen the system UI stopped message at all on this firmware or the earlier leaked version of it. I suggest doing a full reinstall using the reset button.

Futeko. Can you update the intial thread to suggest this as the primary option, and re pin method as the recovery option. It is a pain to re-enter all settings...keyboard, ip, dns, samba, nfs, etc! Wish i had known this before.

Will let you know if it appears more often, which I doubt. Could be caused by something I have installed.
If occurring again then will do a re-install with a full cleanup mainly for diagnostic purposes.

Confirmed. Auto Switch does not work. And in a 1920x1080 23.976 fps movie, I have seen micro cuts.
Right now my Meder MED600X3D is far better playing.

For now I'm disappointed.

It is the exact same firmware I installed and spoke of 2 days ago. Exact file size, MD5 and build number yet everyone was saying don't install it's a Chinese beta. HDR works for definite on my LG OLED as does YouTube 4K. Pity the framerates are all still messed up. It's sad when 4 year old DNLA 3D blu ray players and smart TVs can stream all your content better than this box. I would advise anyone to steer clear of this junk until it is fit for purpose.
Worst purchase ever and false advertising on so many levels.

I have HDMI auto adaption OFF. Res set to 2160p 60hz, HMDI set to 10 bit. It works well for 4K movies, plays them at 24p 4K and 60fps 4K for things like Kylie Kiss Me Once Live 4K rip.
All HDR demos I have work as well as via a USB hard drive on my LG 4K OLED.
I haven't tried any 1440p stuff on YouTube but all the 4K videos I tried work just like the 4K YouTube webos program built into the TV.
I have my HDR setting set at HDR10. I have to turn it to SDR to fiddle with imprex and custom picture settings.
Sony Camp def works in HDR looks stunning.

Firmware 1.0.3 seems to be giving me1 problem that I've noticed so far, if anyone can check the same on their Q10 Pro.

When a movie finishes either in KODI or the HiMedia player it starts to play the same movie over again. I've installed the firmware twice thinking maybe there was a glitch the first time. I don't see any settings to fix this problem. Is it a firmware problem or a setting that I don't know about.

Never had this problem with version 1.0.1 firmware.

Otherwise, I'm very happy with the firmware, it seemed to fix picture problems I've had before, now my movies display perfectly!

i'm not that upset with this update , when i realized the despite the fact that it switches back to HDR10 every time the box boots , it still retains the settings you used in SDR before you booted (i mean to say ; the PQ and Imprex engine settings you made in SDR will take effect on HDR10).... nice

When having problems loading the new firmware from the USB drive, check if it is formatted as exFAT.
This will not work!

Try an USB stick with either NTFS or FAT32 formatting.

Oh, and my device does not have a 'restore' pinhole,, it it called 'upgrade'. Also, it is not located on the side of the Q10Pro but on the back of the device (next to the power connector.

1- Video Color Space & HDMI Deep Color: each time I selected YCbCr420 10 bit, exit and click again but it is switched to YCbCr420 8 bit. It can't stay at 10 bit. Previous fw didn't happen this.( My TV supports 10 bit at HDMI 3 which Q10 is connected with the original cable came in the box)
2- Either via Wifi or Ethernet, I can't change DNS 1 and DNS 2, they are passive, so I can't surf through blocked web sites in Turkey. Previous fw didn't happen this.

oh gosh.... i just found out that the switching between HDR10 and SDR actually works after reboot (even the video color space and HDMI deep color) on my samsung js9500 , but in order to do that just change it via system's advance options and NOT the video output options...
olivierQC ,  senior members of futeko might have a different approach...
for me, the Q10 pro is one hell of an android box.... i've owned many amlogic and rockchip-based boxes , but (for me) nothing beats the Q10 pro , period. i even heard that the shield (which is superior for gaming) comes as a runner up to the Q10 pro (which is superior in video playback)...

magnifico.... bro , you actually can ; when you're in HDR10 mode , go to video output settings and change it to SDR , then set up the HDR saturation from the imprex engine settings to your likings then go back to the video output settings and change the tv HDR mode to HDR10... you'll be on HDR10 with your HDR saturation level that you've chosen....
by the way , to change to whatever the TV HDR mode you like and keep such a mode even after rebooting, just go the system advanced options at the  very bottom of the android settings list , not the video output options which will not keep the changes you made to the tv HDR mode after rebooting.
thanks bro

i agree with you, himedia serie Q is one of the best box android. this is why i have 2 boxes serie Q at home

when i bought the Q10 pro I knew, it would take few months before the issues will be fixed.

currently my q5 4k3d has a better PQ than Q10 pro, the express X engine V1 is better than V2 in my opinion, himedia know the problem and i hope it will be fixed asap, i trust them  :)

this is just my opinion :

when i turn on my box "by default" we should have 1080p/2160p/50hz60hz etc.../4.2.0 8bit/SDR...that's it that's all.

with a movie/demo 4K HDR, it should switch to HDR10 automatically.

my current settings :

Q10 pro
reso 1080p60hz
express X engine v2 : disable
1080p24 option disable

Sony X93C
reality creation (resolution 50)
motionflow custom mode

This update is completely taking the piss.  2 days work by a single engineer.  This is what we get after 6 WEEKS wait~?

Sorry but Himedia hardware is unfit for purpose.  They have rushed the software and now not giving hardly any after care.

I have no option but return the box as it is unfit for purpose.  This does not work how it was advertised and I honestly cannot see it working correctly for a long time.

Please explain returns polocy.

That is what I was thinking after reading the Change Log.
How can they after 6 weeks release a Firmware Update, that only has some cosmetic corrections.
The most important thing, that 24Hz resp. 23.976 AutoframeSwitching is not working, still is awfull to watch, because during every movie there are micro stutterers or micro freezes.

I am really too thinking about connecting my Q5 4K and selling the Q10 Pro.

BTW I cannot understand the guys, that are writing, that everything runs smooth. It runs smooth until the first, or second middlefast or fast pan.
I think, I will try again the Q5 4K today... the 6 weeks "work" of Himedia is so ashaming....  :-[

Anyone can advice how to change DNS (wifi or ethernet) ? Is not working.
The red power button at remote control only shuts down, how can I reboot or standby by remote control?

Yes, you will lose everything.
It's strongly recommended to use this option,  it's not OK only to update over the already installed.

Move the  Auto to off.
Scrol down with a keyboard for example to the DNS and it should be changeable.
Press Submit button.

You mean Ethernet/Advanced/Network Auto Connect? I tried off and on, DHCP / connected and disconnected, all the same. DNS 1 and DNS 2 is still passive. At previous fw, I changed DNS but now I can't.

More easier way is

Scroll down with a keyboard for example to the DNS and it should be changeable.
Press Submit button.

Right now my Meder MED600X3D is far better playing.

1080p24 OFF
expressX engine V2 OFF
advanced option : SDR and YCbCr 4.2.0 10bit (or HDR10 if i watch demo 4k HDR)

Sony x93c
motionflow ON
reality creation ON

i have seen 4 or 5 micro stuttering/freeze in whole movies. but they are very discreet.

Dear Magnifico and Pcristi,
I sorted DNS problem. Thank you very much for your help :)
The remaining bug now is not to be able to restart or standby with the remote control's buttons. And advise please; as long as I do not watch 4K videos (my movie archieve is 720p and 1080p) does it make a video quality difference if the video setting is 1080p 60Hz vs. 2016 60Hz? I set it to 1080/60 Hz and could be possible to set ...444 10bits (probably  better than  ...420 10 bit, I am not sure). For 720/1080p archieve, do you think 1080p 60Hz and ...444 10 bit will be the best?

I actually have got LG 4K TV which supports 4K/60HZ and 10 bit, but I don't have 4k content, only several short sample videos like 2-3 minutes. I have 3 TB of 720/1080p movies. There are 3 types of 10 bit selection (including RGB 10 bit)  and I wonder which 10 bit will be the best selection. This is the first time I own an android TV box so I am trying to learn the things. Whenever I watch 4K videos, I am planning to switch 2160p/60 Hz

my Q10Pro just went from his standby position in the rack back into his box where it can rot until the frame switch issue has been fixed.

as compared to many users and regarding video stutter : i have a Samsung js9000 4k TV and sometimes i take it to the extreme with the motion rate option ; custom : blur reduction at 10 and judder reduction at 6 or even 7 (the so called soap opera effect).... and with such undesirable settings , every android box , including the shield would suffer noticeable stutter on 1080p video file...  except for the Q10 pro. (unless of course the frame rate is switched to 24hz which usually results in stutter free playback on most of the android boxes) ,.....
the Q10 pro is giving me super smooth playback and that is simply amazing.
many might disagree , but that is what i'm experiencing which is enough to draw a smile on my face. thanks

I see mostly very positive  PQ comments coming from 4K TV owners but people still owning a 1080P TV only see an average PQ. I am one of those.
It seems the box is really tuned for 4K (HDR) TV owners. Not necessarily a bad thing but something to be aware of.

Regarding fixing bugs Dune with the Dune 4K Solo seems to be moving ahead faster. Most bugs on the initial firmware were already polished.

Exactly my point: Playing standard BD SDR material on a 4K TV seems to be very good, but far less regarding PQ on a 1080P TV. Not talking about stuttering as I play at 24P and that works just fine for me. My old Xtreamer Prodigy media player and my Pioneer BDP- LX55 Blu-Ray Player both produce superior PQ using the same source on the same TV. PQ is defined as detail, contrast, brilliance, sharpness (playback is smooth on all 3 that is not the differentiator here). As source I use DVD or BD 1:1 copies in ISO format mainly (not MKV or AVI).

You tried connecting it to a 1080P TV? Would be interesting to hear your experience doing so.

So far I'm rather happy.
Regardless that frame rate 23.976 has Micro stuttering..
For now,  I use the 1080/60 option. All video now plays very smooth.
Beleive me,  I am a crazy Audio and  video picky person,  and onky used 23.976/24 setting with all my devices..
So to have 60fps working buttery smooth,  I'm not missing the 24fps.
Onky time I does bother me, is with mvc 3d, as it switches to 24fps for that. And therefore have Micro stuttering.
I have faith it will be fixed,  and this player on my 110" screen looks best I have ever used..
I come from using oppo,  dune, PC, vten etc..

I'm happy..

HI,

I assume the worst, and it cames true. Or in other words: how to worsen the product.

The Q10 is connected to the Panasonic DXW904 (4K Reference TV at the moment).
Before I installed the update, the only main problem (for me), was the missing HDR functionality.
Now I can`t see no 4k films when using the wrapper.  Non-4K Films working (also by using the wrapper), setting the video resolution to 1080p, the 4k films plays also.
4K films with the standard player also working (but stuttering > therefore useless).
Sound ist playing always, but no video-signal, TV is black. If I switch the HDMI Port on the TV side to compatible mode (means without HDR processing ) and back to HDR Mode, I get the video signal also.

I playing around again several hours with this "beta" SW.
For information: using the newes wrapper version 1.01.

As a customer who has paid for a working product, I await A elementary working SW just in time!
I`m more than angry.

Hi futeko,
what did you mean with this, the opening post describe the pinhole restore method. Means total loosing all data. In general, that could not be the right way to do an upgrade. It is the upgrade method of the beginning of Android and not state of the art.

I use the upgrade selection on the system menu (as described some posts before). It works without any problems. I use the same way to went back to the delivery (1st) FW version, because this "HIMEDIA" facility does play videos at least at this version.

And to let off steam, do the programer know what they do?
If I see, that they build twice menu structures for video setups under the android system menu. What is the meaning of the same video setups at different places. Do override one setup the other, or is one video setup for 4K films, the other not?
You see, I`m not willing to poke in the mist. It would be helpful to hear some exact words concerning the setups (special the SAME video setups items like resolution in different menus).

To be honest, these guys have to earn the right to use name like HIMEDIA first, at the moment it`s rather LOWMEDIA.

Thank you for your interesting post. I own a YAMAHA CX A5100 processor and will check whether it's default mode is 2. The processor is currently connected to a Sony Vpl Vw520es. Would welcome if you post the best settings that you got of your Q10pro.

I can`t get the hands off............

As I described some post before, I get no video signal after the upgrade when I use the wrapper to play 4K films.
Now I`m one step ahead, after a new upgrade ( I went back to the release version meanwhile), the 4K films plays with the wrapper also.

The secret was the video color space settings as follows:

YCbCr444 8 Bit works
YCbCr444 10 Bit not possible (we know that)
YCbCr420 8Bit don`t works
YCbCr440 10Bit don`t works

The HDR Mode was set to HDR10 all the time.
The settings where made in the "advance options".

I don`t understand why 420 doesn`t work, maybe some experts has A meaning about this?
The next question for me is the difference between the two selection menus for the same video color space settings.

The problem appears with Kodi when I tried to play a movie !!! No movie just a message asking if I want to delete the file ... I checked the the hard drive with Kodi  and FileManager ... No HDD !!! I turned off Q10 and tried again HDD is recognized but no way to play movie with Kodi , still the same message ...
I turned off  again and put the hardrive in an external box . Boot the Q10  and try to play a movie with Kodi and miracle it works !!!!!
Question: Why it doesn't work with internal HDD ???

Question: Why it doesn't work with internal HDD ???

Normally it is not possible to move any > 2 TB HDD between Internal and a USB Enclosure due to incompatible formats being required for each.
The only exception is an USB-Docking with explicit support for GPT (very recent units only). The HDD's in any standard enclosure being sold with more or less sealed housings are never compatible. You may see the drive if you are (un)lucky when moved but the content is not accessible. That is absolutely normal. Playing around with it when inserted in the wrong platform can actually destroy your content.

To move a HDD you need to backup the full content, reformat for new deployment and restore all content again. Just moved a few HDD myself from USB enclosures to a 4-port USB Docking. These now work also Internally (Plug & Play).

Please read my tutorial for the why and how of this.

If you have an internal HDD with media.  Add that Media to Kodi.  It will all work.
If you then plug in another usb device you will find that the internal HDD will have moved to a different device id so kodi will no longer see it.  Remove the other usb device.  Restart q10 and it will work again.

This is one of the downsides of having the q10's internal hdd connected as usb device.  cost cutting...

Also its why this line in the details for the q10 pro is misleading.

"INTERNAL 3.5" HDD BAY Q10 Pro accepts an internal 3.5" SATA hard drive up to 8TB. Perfect if you have a large collection of video that you'd prefer to access locally."

It indicates you has sata.  When in fact it should say..  Big hole in q10 pro to allow you to hide your usb device inside.

It is on my bug list reported. The Internal HDD should be detected as HDD not SD or USB with an unique ICON being used.
It is an underlying Android thing as Smart Phones have only one or the other. OpenElec does a far better job here using the same hardware platform.

But isn't the internal drive just a sata to usb connector and the actual drive is connected to the usb bus?

To move a HDD you need to backup the full content, reformat for new deployment and restore all content again.

I never done that , the HDD ( 4 TB)  was at the beginning internal with media and well playing with Kodi ....
Later for some reason I don't know it was impossible to play the movies and to see the HDD .

After that as I said in my post I install the same HDD in an external Box without doing anything else and that solved my problem !!!!!!

From the FAQ thread (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=711.0):

* How to share Q5/Q10 Pro internal storage / internal HDD / USB storage on a network? Turn on Samba sharing. Go Settings - More - SAMBA Service - Start. You can add password protection if you wish. This will share the internal storage, internal HDD and all attached USB storage using a Samba (Windows) network.

First switch on SAMBA sharing

1. From the FAQ thread (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=711.0):
* How to share Q5/Q10 Pro internal storage / internal HDD / USB storage on a network? Turn on Samba sharing. Go Settings - More - SAMBA Service - Start.

This will share the internal storage, internal HDD and all attached USB storage using a Samba (Windows) network. Use password if you want. I dont bother as it is internal network and a hassle.

2. Check you IP settings on Q10. I like to have my Q10 Pro set simialr to my pc. so ip, DNS,  subnet and WORKGROUP. Check you DNS and WORKGROUP on your main pc. (right click on Computer icon for properties and right). Check you PC IP and DNS via network control panel. Name your Q10Pro to something easy to type and recognise.

3. Reboot PC and Q10Pro. Now use network icon on your computer to see the Q10Pro. If you dont type \\IP or \\name of Q10Pro on the explorer...that will show you the Q10....open the link and get to a directory that looks like "sda". Map that to a PC drive letter.

thats it.

What do you have installed and how did you install the firmware?

It's not a common message with 1.0.3 so would be useful if the cause could be narrowed down to a particular app or action.

Thanks for the reply. Mine was formatted NTFS and was read fine by the file manager(s) but when doing the upgrade the Q10 Pro was reset back to factory state.

Might want to add a note to the upgrade directions so others don't make the same mistake. I take it any of the usb ports will work?

MIne got away when I reinstalled the firmware.

IT seems it is triggerred by some settings combination (on my case, i think it was display/wallpaper settings). or some installed  programs (was doing a lot during that tim, installing / disinstalling).

Been keen on what i install and tinker later. never happened again so far.

I would like to add some extra comment on how to do the update:

First download the Q10 PRO FIRMWARE. 1.0.3-FUTEKO-EN. HMD-1.0.3 2016-05-23.124800

Installation Instructions:
1. Rename update_Q10Pro_(...)_HMD-1.0.3(...).zip to update.zip
2. Copy this update.zip to the root of a USB pen drive.
3. Insert the USB pen drive into any USB port of the Q10Pro
4. With the Q10Pro turned off, use a paper clip or pen to press and hold the the pinhole restore button on the back side of the Q10Pro.
5. While keeping the restore button pressed, turn on the Q10Pro.
6. The Q10Pro will show an Android droid logo and proceed to upgrade the firmware.
7. When the Android logo starts up, you can release the restore botton
8. The box will auto-reboot when finished.
9. First boot take 3-5 minutes, just wait...
(normal boot time is 17-19 seconds)

Good luck

1 and 2 are different for our firmware package. We put update.zip inside a zip so we can include a readme.txt with changelog / install instructions and as a way of making it near impossible for the update.zip file to be correct (built in error checking in zip container).

The other points are good and I will add them. Particularly the last one. First boot after firmware install does take a while.
