Kodi 17.6 settings
« on: May 30, 2018, 05:25:35 AM »
HI,

I have HIMEDIA Q5 Pro. I am unable to pass through Atmos through Kodi. I am not getting the Audio options (under Expert mode) to enable the True HD and DTS, even though the pass through is ON.

I see in some video that they are able to receive ATMOS and DTS HD MSTR audio on q10 pro. I am not sure why it does not work on KODI. I am bypassing the KODI wrapper and using the system media player.

I am using ONKYO TX NR 646 as receiver.

Please help me setup things in Himedia/KODI to get Pass through successfully

If you had read yourself in before, you would know that you can no longer get passthrough sound in Kodi with HiMedia. Use the HiMedia Player via wrapper in Kodi and it works.

To be correct: it only works with DD and DTS 5.1 and still not with HD audio formats.

I would't struggle with KODI for playback anyways on these devices, as there's no proper frequency switching and has PQ issues f.e. with interlaced videos (and who knows else what).  I would like to have it working properly, just like anyone else here, but it's far from recommendable. I would also rather suggest to skip the option of the KODI freque patch as it just works a bit weird way, by my discretion.  For the best playback experience and quality possible on these Boxes, just simply use the stock HiMedia Player for playback and KODI only for Media Browser/Library.

kodi audio passthru... i thought all is quite clear by now but seems not...?
if not mistaken, it has been like that since 2.0.6, no change since then.

ofw 2.0.8, kodi 17.6.
kodi setting audio pass tru enabled.

with wrapper:
local playback good for dts, dtshma, dd, dd+, ddtruehd.
i would think it's good for dtsx and ddatmos too if the file has such audio tracks.
the playback is diverted from kodi to native player.
does not work with kodi addon streams.

w/o wrapper:
local playback or kodi streams, u get dd and dd+ only, even for ddtruehd and atmos tracks.
setting transcoding enabled will transcode all dts, dtshdma to dd.
if no transcoding, you get aac2.0.

my use - local playback, always use native player.
kodi,  w/o wrapper to get dd, dd+ (streams that are such).
