Courtesy of pcristi and Looun, there is now an experimental method to install Android TV leanback on Q10 Pro.
See this thread: http://www.android-mediaplayer.de/index.php/Thread/4120-Experimental-Android-TV%E2%80%8B-Experience-for-himedia-Q10-pro/
THIS IS VERY EXPERIMENTAL SO PLEASE DON'T INSTALL IF YOU'RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THE INSTALL / UNINSTALL PROCESS!

Thank you gentlemen. This has completely revived my experience with Q10 Pro. The box is now doing what it is meant to do.
-
@Futeko
Have you personally tried it?
Call me lazy but I am not willing to brick my Q10 if this is not 100% safe.
It's not a matter of being comfortable doing this procedure but I'd rather not try it at all if you don't give some form of guarantee that this won't have any negative impact on the Q10's core features.
Is this just a launcher, as in, it just serves as a form of GUI? It's not a firmware right? It won't replace firmware 2.0 and won't prevent deploying the future Q10 firmware?
Installing it will replace the Google Play Store with the Android TV one?
I would also appreciate if we could get a better step by step tutorial on how to install it . The one on the German forums seems to be translated from German so I am not too keen on basing my installation on it...
Thanks!

Excellent Work!!!!!!!!!!

I have tried it. It totally changes experience. You can still change the lost Display settings with the HiMedia Settings. I installed it on Android 7 firmware. Totally worth it. The hack installs a lot more than just the LeanBack launcher. I noticed that DRM Info app now looks a lot different, just like on a TV. Play Store is also optimized for TV, no more need for a keyboard. Of course, not all apps are optimized for TV. You can still go back to the old setup.
-
does it work on Q5 pro android 5.1?
-
Is intend to work on Q10/Q5 Pro HiMedia/update&themed f/w HMD 1.0.7 / 1.0.8 / 2.0.0 / 2.0.1, for me working.
For Android 5.1.1 update&themed f/w maybe need running twice spoofing option if first time give error "no space left on device".
does it work on Q5 pro android 5.1?
-
Netflix 4k working? With HDR?
-
DRM level is still unchanged. Any hacks won't probably make it here, since they are illegal. Only HiMedia can fix this by paying Google for a better DRM (if it is possible). This patch only changes the launcher and makes our box Android TV compatible. I really, really like it like this, even if I miss having my apps on the main screen as I had with HiMedia Launcher.

Yes I've tried it but my advice would be to not install it if you're not comfortable with the install and uninstall process.
It's a launcher and replacement Play Store, but to install it requires additional system changes. You can still use standard Q5/Q10 Pro launcher after installation (in fact, just press the '3D' button on remote to see standard launcher - you don't even have to reset default launcher preference).
You can install normal Q5/Q10 Pro firmware to start from scratch.
But, we don't vouch for it, it's not official (either from us or Himedia), and it's at your own risk.

Well I took the plunge and tried it last night. So far so good and I like the TV oriented interface.
However this is still Android and has same limitations...
Youtube still sucks on it. You still need the mouse pointer for a few things and the Android app still didn't add support for 4K/HDR. I don't mind as I have it on my Samsung TV apps but it would've been a nice touch I guess.
Kodi is unchanged.
Anything else you recommend I try?

it's only a cosmetic modification , it's Experience of Android TV , only Android TV leanback launcher and play store are changed.
The system are still Android OS and DRM are still Widevine level 3.
It's cool interface to enjoy himedia box ;)

It does not affect the video quality dri film?

Yes, that is a known issue. It is mentioned a few times in this thread and the original German thread. You can still modify them from within the HiMedia Settings.

Hi, I was trying to install this hack, but I'm not able to do it, do I need a computer or how I run the .bat thing
Thank you

You need a Windows PC connected to the same network as the Q10 Pro.
.bat files are Windows executable, so just double click it in Windows file manager.

Hello
I was using your patch 0.0.8 on firmware 2.0.0
Last week I updated to 2.0.1, followed by version 0.1.1 of your patch.
So far everything looks ok, but I can't find Airdroid in my Apps. And somehow, it is not appearing either in the Play Store, I guess because the store was switched to the TV one which might not have Airdroid ?
I was only using Airdroid for file transfers but I guess I am going to rely on Samba from now on...
Do you have any solution to still use airdroid or any recommendation for a good alternative other than Samba?
Thanks!
-
Download Airdroid apk from apkmirror (http://www.apkmirror.com/?s=Airdroid&post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk) install from USB/sdcard.

enjoy your Android TV "Experience"
Looking good so far, good work guys! At last a 21st century interface 8)!
I've just installed it on my Q10 (HMD 2.0.1 - Android 7.0 - Kodi 17), connected to a Samsung 4K Smart TV.
But a few questions:
The official Android TV home screen has a "Settings" button in the bottom-left of the Home Screen, your's does not!
- How do I change that ghastly background wallpaper?
- I've worked out how to remove apps (Skype & Facebook) from the app ribbon, but how do I add new ones?
- You've given us a "Reboot" button, why not the "Power Menu" so we can switch the box off???
- The "Search Box" defaults to "Voice Input". I have no intention of talking to my TV, nor a microphone to do so! How can I change the Voice Input back to Text Input (I've tried in Google Options "Languages & Input" but the "Voice" option is not there? If I can't have text input, how can I remove the Search Box altogether?
-
before check video setting than
- choose 1 "Fake SHIELD Android TV"
OK, but I chose option 3 as I assumed that was for 4K TVs. Was that right??

The "Search Box" defaults to "Voice Input". --> This is Google force on Android TV.
Are also other things missing because not TV setting inside of box.

OK so I'll have to put up with Voice Input and ignore it.
One of the apps I have on the box is BBC iPlayer. Its icon appears in My Apps and in Sideload Launcher but it does not appear on the app ribbon on the new Android TV interface.
I notice that in the new Google Play Store (7.2.13.J-xhdpi [8] [PR] 139098199) BBC iPlayer is not available in the search: "no results found"! Is that why it's not on the ribbon? Is it compatible? It works!

Try
BBC iPlayer for Android TV from apkmirror (http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/nvidia-shield-partners/bbc-iplayer-for-android-tv/) maybe work I didn't test it.

Reluctantly I've decided to revert back to default and use Smart Launcher Pro. Those ghastly background wallpapers and voice input on the "Android TV" interface were annoying me too much :o !
-
@loon @pcristi
Will this get further updates? I am on the latest version now (0.1.1) but curious to know if I should revert back to the official firmware or stick to your leanback patch?
Thanks a lot !
-
Looks nice. Did not try it yet, but may do so?
Does is work on Egreat A5/A10 too? Would be surprised if it does not.
Courtesy of pcristi and Looun, there is now an experimental method to install Android TV leanback on Himedia,Q10 Pro, Zidoo X9S (and probably equivalents).
See this thread: http://www.android-mediaplayer.de/index.php/Thread/4120-Experimental-Android-TV%E2%80%8B-Experience-for-himedia-Q10-pro/

@Looun @pcristi
Do you mind if an identical link to the above is made available on the Zidoo and Egreat forums?

@loon @Pcristi
Is this getting any updates? I was using 0.1.1 but have now reverted to the custom FW 2.0.4
