What is the best way to achieve this?
OK I can see the hdd easily if I connect via a windows/linux box. I can see the drive.
My TV though cannot see the drive. When I connect to the Q10 via my tv directly I can only see the android shares (photos, music, videos)
Is there a way to share the hdd to allow my tv to see it?

Use SAMBA and give it free.

Already on. Like I said I can see the drive on my windows and linux boxes.. The TV only sees the android device and only accesses the android shared dirs.. I need to find a way to share the internal drive with the android shared folders.

You can share the Android file system (so internal HDD and all attached drives) via Samba by turning on Samba sharing in settings. Settings - More - SAMBA Service - Start.
This will work for any device on the same network that can see Samba (Windows) network shares.
Your TV is using UPnP / DLNA rather than Samba.
The 'Happycast' app on Q10 Pro runs automatically on boot and should share all media content under /sdcard via UPnP/DLNA. This works but the problem is that any attached drive (USB or SATA) is mounted under /mnt directory, so ignored. I've just emailed HiMedia with this info as it makes having Happycast installed as a UPnP/DLNA server fairless useless.
The solution is to install an alternative UPnP/DLNA server. I've tried a couple and I like 'Pixel Media Server', free from Play Store. It has a lot of options, and most importantly will let you select the directory to share.

Sounds just what I want. Thanks futeko will give it a try tonight :)

The SAMBA implementation is over simplified and buggy (e.g. wrong HDD size and Free space). Have multiple devices with a SAMBA (SMB/CIFS) Clients and some see all resources including Internal HDD and USB storage and others only see the internal SD storage. All these same devices see a good Samba server like Windows PC or a NAS.
Changing the client is not always an option as many devices run entirely in factory specific firmware.
Using UPnP/DLNA is not an option for many as it is picky on the type of media being shared. No DVD/BD/SACD folders or ISO's being shared that way for instance.
The real solution is implementing a fully working SAMBA Server. Should not be that difficult?

I appreciate that the Samba server could be better, and that has been fed back to HiMedia, but that's not the answer to the question posted in this thread.
The problem here is that the TV, using DLNA/UPNP, is not seeing content from Q10 Pro.
And the problem is that Q10 Pro via it's DLNA server (Happycast) is sharing /sdcard and not /mnt. It needs either an updated version of Happycast or a different DLNA server. Previous generation HiMedia products used HiDLNA, which in this case would be better.

I can't read from the question if the TV is using a Samba client or a mere UPnP/DLNA client? I have seen TV's with NAS support via SAMBA and even NFS.
If It is using a Samba client then it may still not work as also this one has a problem sharing /sdcard and not /mnt under unknown conditions to me.

The 'photos, music, videos' folders are typical of DLNA.
I'm slightly presuming that it's DLNA, but only slighty. 95% certain.

Have you actually got pixel media server to work on q10 pro? It dies not work for me

Pixel media sever runs, but after some more testing this morning the 'sda' share feature doesn't share Q10 pro internal HDD (which is located at /mnt/sda/sda1
The lack of usable DLNA (i.e. DLNA that shares anything other than the internal flash storage) has been reported to HiMedia and hopefully the will fix it. It needs the existing integrated DLNA app to be set up to share /mnt/* and not /sdcard/* as it is currently.
in the meantime, if possible, use Samba sharing for Q5/Q10 Pro internal and USB attached storage.

Yeah that's how I got it. My problem is I have a synology nas which has most stuff on but almost full. I have put 6tb dove in q10 until I expand nas. Kids want to watch some stuff which is on q10 hd on their tv directly which don't have kodi boxes :( I'll either shuffle files around or get them to watch those files on main tv until problem solved :)

Is there a solution for the problem now?
I too wants to share the content of the internal hdd over network using upnp.
But I have only access to the internal storage /sdcard!
-
This patch will create mountpoints for your storage under /sdcard and therefore allow them to be shared using HiMedia's built-in DLNA/UPNP server:

I tested it but the patch does not work for me?
I start the script, enter the IP, choose intall, the device reboots, wait about 2 minutes but nothing has changed?
Neither the internal hdd (/mnt/sda/sda2) nor attached usb-devices are visible.
I tested it several times.
What can I do?

the path of my internal hdd is: /mnt/sda/sda2/
There is no "/media_rw/"
Maybe this is the reason?
-
Did you install the patch that Futeko has recommended?
-
Yes, I installed the patch, but nothing changed!
-
Is there a resason why the hdd of my device has a different path?
Can I change the path of my harddisk without causing problems or
is it maybe possible to adapt the patch to work with the path of my harddisk?

/mnt/sda/sda2/ is the default path and naming convention when the patch is not installed.
It makes me think that the patch is not installed correctly. Did the install appear to go normally? Did the box reboot at the end of it?
-
>Did the install appear to go normally? Did the box reboot at the end of it?
Yes, looks normally for me and the box reboots at the end!
-
it seems I had a problem with WiFi and Cable-LAN active on the device at the same time? (2 different addresses active on the Q10Pro)
I switched off WiFi and then it worked.
Thank you for helping me! :)
Is it correct that using UPnP I can only find my internal HDD within the media_rw folder of the sdcard-folder?
(path: (HIMEDIA)/Videos/ByFolder/sdcard/media_rw/disc-by-uuid/.....)
-
Woops. I installed the patch. First option 1,then option 2. Now all my big files (movies, series episodes etc) are deleted from the disk. How can this happen and can it be restored?

I'd suggest upgrading to Android 7 (which does change the mountpoint names) and to the latest firmware 2.0.1 and see if this helps?
It also speeds up network performance for file transfers (considerably).
You will need to update all your settings (as these are back to defaults) after installation and recommend backing up Kodi externally first (as everything is lost on upgrade).
