Any plans to include the new Dune HD Pro 4K II player?
Interesting box if all specification claims are true it will beat the Zidoo Z9S not only on performance but on core functionality too.
- Best-in-class full Blu-ray menu support: support for BD-J, BD4K, BD3D, obfuscated playlists and seamless branching
- Audio file formats: MP3, MPA, M4A, AAC, WAV, WMA, FLAC, Ogg/Vorbis, WavPack, APE (Monkey's Audio), ALAC (Apple lossless), SACD ISO (stereo), SACD DSF (stereo), SACD DFF (stereo), AC3, DTS, DTS-WAV
-
No plans, but not ruling anything out.
I would caution that, as is often the case, it's unlikely that early firmware will be perfect.
I like their sudden emphasis on seamless branching as a way of attacking a perceived weakness of Zidoo!
It's likely that Zidoo will have other RTD1619 products at some point although I have no specific info at this stage.
-
Yeah they must have been reading my stuff as I am pushing seamless branching since a very long time. ;D
The seamless branching problem is most likely caused by the Realtek SDK used as the fundament making it very difficult to solve.
Asked Dune and they answered me DSD via HDMI is not coming as the RTD1619 neither supports it. But getting MCH DSD => MCH PCM is somewhat more likely as they are looking into that and claim the CPU can potentially do it. Would also be a significant step.
Was surprised by the very quick answer I got (same day).
What I see is Dune has been converting all the old Sigma goodies to RTD1295 gradually. This next to supporting Amlogic for their cheaper boxes. That took them quite some time but updates were significant and they got finally player functionally on par with Zidoo again (not Movie Wall). Maybe even with higher quality/stability using their own OS? That should also make the transition to RTD1619 easier as Android 9 and above all the Realtek SDK is just used for the Android add-ons. That might work out just fine now?
-
Interesting I see you started selling Dune again!
Dune HD RealBox 4K being its smaller brother to start with. RTD1395 does functionally the same as RTD1619 just using an older CPU/GPU. The CPU is the same as with RTD1295. The GPU is even an old ARM® Mali-470 MP4 GPU versus ARM® Mali-T820 MP3 GPU used with the RTD1295 models.
It is very shy on ports with no USB3 and no SATA at all. The mainboard power section omitted the 12V => 5V internal stabilizer and the PSU is straight 5V 2A powering that mainboard directly. USB3 can't even potentially work with that PSU for sure and even 2x 500mA for USB2 might just do? I do highly recommend using a powered USB2 hub with it when intending to use USB powered 2.5 inch HDD's with it.
The minimalist power design may have some negative impact on Video and Audio quality specifically during transitions! It is a mainboard build around the Realtek RTD1395 SOC with as few additional components as possible. That is how the box could be made that small!
It is alse running Android 7 which personally don't expect to be upgraded ever to Android 9.
http://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?threads/about-android-os-versions-and-os-generations.77548/
Seen Dune using its own OS/GUI next to Android has less relevance than with other brands.
For sure still great value for money overall, but would go always for the bigger brother when using external HDD's like I do myself. :)
-
I like new shiny things. We'd have probably continued selling the previous Dune model if not for problems with the European distributor. Apparently we were not alone in this, hence Dune are using a different distributor now.
The new Realtek chipsets look pretty good. My testing of the Zidoo:X 1619 prototype was very positive.
I've created a page for the Dune HD Pro 4K II here: https://www.futeko.com/products/MP106.php
-
Would it be possible to get the optional Dune HD BT AirMouse Remote via Futeko too?
https://www.dune-hd.com/products/dune-hd-bt-airmouse-remote
To be used with HibyMusic!
But frankly I am even more interested in a HD Pro 4K II Plus including it whenever such a model will become available.
-
Dune HD RealBox 4K being its cheaper brother. Does functionally the same just a bit shy on ports (no USB3 and no SATA).
Realbox 4K is perfect for anybody wanting great media performance with the Dune ecosystem on a modern chipset, compatible with modern apps, and at the lowest price possible.
Would it be possible to get the optional Dune HD BT AirMouse Remote via Futeko too?
Possible at a later date.
-
Should also say that we plan on selling new Zidoo 1619 products also, but we have no more info about them than is already in the public domain.
Dune Pro 4K II will be the first Realtek 1619 product available.

I'm not going to give any details of the firmware or capabilities at this stage. It's up to Zidoo to give out that info when they choose.

When comparing both Dune models have a look at the update made for HD Realbox 4K.
Mainboards are very different beyond the Realtek SOC used.
Also the Android version is 7 not 9 with Realtek having a policy of never upgrading OS versions on a SOC once released.
Just warnings to make the right choice. :)

Realbox doesn't have a USB 3.0 port, so USB 3.0 devices not working is a given.
Realbox provides the Dune interface and excellent image quality at a low price. It has 2T2R dual-band wi-fi and Gigabit ethernet, so for most users who will access media over LAN the disadvantages regarding USB are not relevant. If you regularly use external physical drives then other products are probably more suited.

Does this play HEVC 4K60P?
Yes.

Might even wait myself for a "HD Pro 4K II Plus" model as I liked the connectivity of the Plus most.
Dune gave me the following answer when being asked about it:
Hello,
Pro 4K II Plus will be on sale in June-July.
That sounds promising. ;)
-
June 10th is still possible but we don't yet have a fixed date from Dune. When we have new information from Dune we will update our website accordingly.
Thanks.
Are you going to supply the new Zidoo Z9X?
Any estimation for their availability?

Yes we will supply it. My estimate for it being available would be August at earliest.

Good evening.
I am a user of Himedia Q10 pro and Q5 pro boxes.
I know that making comparisons is not easy, as for quality audio video, however I ask if the management via SAMBA and the use of apps like Kodi is similar to Himedia.
Thanks
-
SAMBA and the use of apps like Kodi is similar to Himedia?
SAMBA is not a problem but it is not meant to be a KODI/SPMC platform despite it runs under its Android 7. There is no Wrapper APP included.
If you are mainly a KODI fan I would get me something else running CoreElec/LibreElec or equivalent OS. Runs better/faster on those OS and KODI is moving away from Android anyway. Those will be a lot cheaper too as makers just get the Free OS and Free KODI pair it with a (blazing) fast CPU/GPU and just make a package from it. Futeko seems to have dropped that market which frankly I can understand as products seem to come and go on a daily basis almost.
-
In theory having an S.O. Android 9 the Kodi app should be fully supported.
From what I understood that not being equipped with App Wrapper I cannot take advantage of the native player, is it correct?
Stupid question, possibly there is no wrapper app to install on this model?
Thanks
-
I doubt Kodi will work with native hardware decoding on Dune Pro 4K II, but we won't know for sure until the hardware appears.
Kodi is not the primary purpose of the Dune and Zidoo products. They both have their own excellent media scraping + browsing apps which replicate Kodi's functions for local media but with less overhead and guaranteed continued full hardware support (as opposed to Kodi where the software is developed open source and the goalposts move continuously). Emphasis is audio/video quality.

Update on shipping ETA.
Dune confirmed today that they expect to receive production stock at their warehouse late next week (~2-JUN). On this basis the 10-JUN despatch on our site is realistic and it may even be earlier.
We'll keep ETA updated on the product page (https://www.futeko.com/products/MP106.php) and here.
It would be great if you could context Dune and confirm any additional audio and video playback features compared to the Realbox 4K.
The way things are at the moment, the only ones are I/O and hardware related (different soc, ram, connections).
Is Dolby Vision going to be supported?
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone!
I pre-ordered the Pro 4K II a couple of days ago. Really looking forward to it (hopefully) arriving within the next 3 to 4 weeks. Currently I use a Dune HD Solo Lite, which has served me well the last couple of years on a 1080p tv. A week ago I upgraded to a LG 65CX, but the Solo Lite doesn't seem to output an HDR signal to the tv. I use a Denon X1600H receiver inbetween and I also replaced all the hdmi cables to version 2.1. The HDR movies do play, but have a washed out look. If I use one of the built-in apps on the tv, for example Youtube of Disney+, the tv shows a HDR logo and it really shines.
So I'm hoping the Pro 4K II to be an upgrade in this regard. Will it deliver the HDR signal to my tv?
And how much of an overall upgrade can I expect it to be over the Solo Lite?
Thank you!
-
Yes it will send HDR to your TV. And HDR+.
Compared to Solo Lite, the interface will be similar (as with all Dune products) but it will be much faster. Format support will be better (supporting formats not created when Solo Lite was released - e.g. VP9 profile 2). Picture + audio quality should be similar - Solo Lite used a very good Sigma chipset.

Good morning
Having never had a DUNE product, but only HiMedia with Kodi interface.
I ask how the video scraper and juke box works, if it can be organized by genres, I assume it works the same on other Dune products.
Thanks

This is on my mind as well. @futeko.com I fit does support DV, what sources? ISO, BDMV folders etc?

The interface will be near exactly the same as previous generation Pro 4K. Yes video can be arranged by genre.

I think it very unlikely that Pro 4K II will support Dolby Vision. It's not mentioned anywhere in the official specs. https://www.dune-hd.com/products/dune-hd-pro-4k-ii
Do any players support Dolby Vision for local files?

Yeah looks like talk of DV was probably just guesswork before the official launch, rumours on the internet.
-
Do any players support Dolby Vision for local files?
No there is not. The previous reply mentions something with illegally cloned HW provided with hacked FW and sold from below the counter only.

Sure there are. The latest Nvidia Shield does support it as well as the ATV 4K and I'm playing DV profile 5 (single layer) files just fine with the ATV 4K from my NAS.
One could argue that these are streamers rather than media players, but the lines a blurry these days and the Shield can pretty much do everything that a media player can.
However "Dolby Vision support" doesn't really say much. The supported profile is very important. While profile 5 (single layer) is used for streaming content, profile 7 (dual layer) is what the UHD BD uses.
The SoC definitely supports DV. However, I don't know which profile. It could be both if the SoC is also meant for UHD BD players. While Oppo, Pioneer and Cambridge all use the same MediaTek SoC I don't know what Panasonic is using (most likely some sort of custom MediaTek SoC) and UHD BD players are not really flourishing anyways these days so its not that likely that the SoC is meant for those players.
That said, afaik Dune needs to negotiate directly with Dolby. So if they don't come to an agreement it doesn't matter if the SoC supports it or not. While they can argue for implementing profile 5 (as there are legal reasons for it), the argumentation for profile 7 will be very difficult as there is not really a legal way of playing those files.
-

Indeed, there are no players with DV for local ISO files and they are neither expected to come. Same answer but a lot longer.
Neither do care as I don't see an appealing difference between DV, HDR10 and HDR10+ watching the same source side by side. DV is very much overhyped. But anybody is free to feel differently.

2 Questons:
1) Has anyone figured out what cable is needed to successfully connect an external Sate 3 HDD to this unit?
2) Are there any External 3.5" Enclosures with the correct Sata 3 connector exposed?
-
2 Questons:
1) Has anyone figured out what cable is needed to successfully connect an external Sate 3 HDD to this unit?
Normally such Internal SATA cable is included. Flat cable of 30 cm with combined power+SATA connectors on both ends.
Is meant to be plugged straight into an Internal HDD without any enclosure.
2) Are there any External 3.5" Enclosures with the correct Sata 3 connector exposed?
External cabinets typically include power provisions and convert to USB3. Some use (also) SATA but then use E-SATA plugs (External SATA). There are SATA cable conversions for that
An alternative is using a Mounting Bay meant for PC's fitting in a standard PC slot.
Personally I just put them on top. Does not look nice, but then you should wait for the Plus model having an internal Docking.

New Gen Amlogic SOCs with CoreElec MIGHT be able to play DV as well, they're working on it. HDR10+ works fine already.

Will the HD Pro 4K II be able to RECORD HDMI in ?
Have other Dune players with both HDMI IN/OUT been able to record from the HDMI in?
Any further info available on delivery date ?
Thanks

Specification:
HDMI 2.0 input: connect an external HDMI source and display it fullscreen or picture-in-picture or record to a file
As far as I know this is provided by Realtek as part of their SDK.

Changes since 200702_2252_r15:
- This is an experimental firmware version. In case of any problems, please
roll back to a previous version.
- New feature: Added support for 4K HDR in Netflix.
- Improvement: Improved the performamance of video stopping and TV channel
switching.
- Improvement: Improved write performance for NTFS filesystem.
- Improvement: Changed some system settings to optimize system stability
and fix some low-level problems.
- Improvement: Changed some internal configuration to potentially improve
support for some formats of multichannel audio in Android apps. (This is
only preliminary and incomplete support, to be further improved.)
- Improvement: In "Android apps" menu, some apps are now shown even when
they are not installed yet. Also changed the order of some apps.
- Improvement: In "Android TV" menu, "Dune HD" app is now available, which
provides another way to return to Dune HD menu.
- Improvement: In "Android TV" menu, changed the default initial list of
favorite apps: added "Dune HD" app, changed the order of some apps. This
change is applied only on a clean box or after settings reset.
- Improvement: When "Android TV" menu is opened for the first time, a hint
about the possibility to use TOP MENU to return to Dune HD menu is shown.
- Improvement: In the initial setup menu, when manual configuration mode is
used, "auto resolution" setting is now switched off by default (same as
in automatic mode).
- Improvement: Improved the default configuration of the TV menu for some
world regions.
- Improvement: "Dune HD" main menu item is renamed to "Dune HD
information".
- Bugfix: Framerate was wrongly detected for some MKV VP9 video files.
- Bugfix: When using full BD Menu, a crash could happen in some cases.
- Bugfix: It was impossible to control some versions of KODI APK via IR
remote control.
- Bugfix: When playing DASH video streams using internal player (e.g. when
using Kartina.TV application), some garbage could be shown as part of the
video in some cases.
- Bugfix: There could be problems with detecting and showing storages in
"Sources" menu, and with handling of HDD with multiple partitions, HDDs
w/o partitions, non-formatted HDDs.
- Minor other fixes and improvements.

As happens more often will answer my own question here, this with a lot of help from franz weber who did the real work. He had the heatsink removed to take a picture from the then naked chip.
It is now confirmed that Dune uses the RDR1619DD chip in contrary to Zidoo.
The biggest difference will be with HDR => SDR downscaling for older 1080P TV's. In general HDR should be a bit better with the VS10 HDR engine present (this may be visible or not). There might be also DV licence/SDK differences but for the remainder they are absolutely igual.
Not a big difference but good to know specifically when looking at HDR features in general and DV specifically.
The new Zidoo Z9X has RTD1619DR for sure including the Dolby Vision VS10 engine.
-
Considering Realbox 4K's (weaker SoC) almost excellent HDR->SDR conversion, I highly doubt there will be any perceptible difference between DR and non-DR SoCs.
It is always better though to have a better-certified product.

The HW acceleration part of RTD1395DD and 1619DD including HDR are absolutely identical. Just the CPU/GPU are different. So the Dune HD Pro 4K II will be identical in that respect to the Realbox 4K.

Is the Android GUI/Launcher really Android TV9 as in the Russian video or it that just for the Russian market?
Has been confirmed to be Android TV9 indeed.

The zoom:personalize function isnt working correctly.
The zoom only stretches vertically, distorting the horizontal/vertical ratio.
You would expect this basic function to work properly.
RC requires good aiming. BD Prime 3.0 had a similar issue, which was resolved in a firmware update if I remember correctly.

Feel free to post here, but please also direct all bugs / feature requests to support@dune-hd.com.
Dune operate technical support by email and are usually pretty good with replying.

I've started using the Pro 4K II a couple of days ago and have encountered the following bugs, which I also e-mailed to Dune:
- Incorrect framerate after screensaver ends (after pausing a movie). Movie starts at 24p > movie is paused > screensaver kicks in at 60p > when movies is resumed, framerate stays at 60p instead of going back to 24p).
In the latest beta firmware, stopping a movie takes a long time (25-30 seconds). The screen turns black with the little white clock in the left upper corner. Meanwhile, the audio of the movie goes on. When the menu is finally shown, the audio still keeps playing. I've reverted back to the last stable firmware because of this. Edit: Upon Dune's request I've tried to reproduce this bug to make a bug report, but so far I haven't encountered this bug again...
Also, is there a way to rearrange (and hide some of) the main menu buttons?

I have just bought a Dune HD Pro 4K II Plus find that neither SPMC 17 or the latest Kodi 19 will bitstream DTS HD Master, Dolby True HD or Atmos or any HD audio tracks! As the internal Dune player WILL play these tracks, I downloaded the XBMC wrapper you suggested above. The wrapper only allows a choice of "chosen by system" or SPMC or "video player" and none enable HD audio output?
As per this old thread, it seems no-one has got the internal player of the Dune HD to be used by Kodi.

Can you tell me if this is indeed possible, with or without the £8 app you recommended?
