Hi all,
some weeks ago I moved to another place and shortly after I flashed the latest 2.0.8 FUTEKO. HMD-2.0.8 2018-04-03 on my Q10. The Q10 is connected by LAN to my Fritzbox router and also my Windows 10 PC is connected by LAN with the same Fritzbox.
Problem at the moment: I can still access the Q10 from my Windows PC (I see the Q10 and I can copy/delete/rename etc. files on the Q10) but the opposite way doesn't work anymore. My PC is recognized by the Q10, because when entering "LAN" on the Q10, the PC is found. The problem is, that no shared folders are found, even if a folder is shared for everybody.
When opening the "ShortCut PC" I can still see the name of the old folder "mfs" which was my ShortCut for a very long time working without any problem. Now the HI10 is asking for username and password:
I did not have the problem before I moved. I did not change settings and it is still the same Fritzbox.
Any advise how to access PC folders again?
-
Sounds like windows networking issue. Have you allocated a fixed IP for the Q10 and also your PC? I have found this fixes many issues.
I know this is not your issue but a recent Windows 10 update lost most of my Network shares (including multiple NAS drives and the Q10's Android share). From my PC, I had to "Map a Network Drive" or "Add a network location" so I could see them all again. It will be an SMB related issue already covered in another thread and was easy to workaround.
The Q10 had no issues connecting to all my existing network drives so it is most likely your move to a new network (and new IP address allocations from Fritz!) could be the root cause of your current problems.
-
First open the Windows Features tab in Win10 and check that all of the SMB 1.0 features are enabled.
Give fixed ips in the router for all of your devices on the network as advised above.
See if the auto LAN Search is working on the Box, or if not, create the shortcuts again.
-
Since yesterday is have the same issue als rausmade described, although some small difference.
I'm on official 2.0.6 and never had this issue before. I only use the MediaCenter and never the Kodi
The thing is I have already set fixed ip addresses in the router for the q10 and my pc. And the really strange thing is that I can look for Lan /auto search and it will correctly find my usb attached to my Asus RT-AC5300 and my pc. Literally every single drive on my pic can be opened and read and I can play files from, EXCEPT the only hard disk that contains 90% of my media files which all used to play perfectly before. All disks are shared and nothing has changed. I double checked it. All drives and partitions are ok, only not the one I need most.
Also the usb in the router sometimes is read, sometimes not. No idea why this is.
I already tried reboots and setting back to factory default, but nothing helped.
I'm totally out of clues what to do.
Hope someone will know what to do, because I'm on the verge of throwing the Q10 in the garbage.
-
I reinstalled the 2.0.6 via the backbutton method.
It seems to have resolved the issue with not getting access to one drive.
Unfortunately, it introduced two new problems: Impossible to add my google account and youtube crashes upon start every single time.
I'm sad.

Okay I decided to take up the challenge and see if mine also has a LAN problem. I checked it when I first got the machine and it worked fine, but given I have a large Internal Hard Drive in the device I just copy over what I want to watch and have not tried to connect to a Windows share in ages.
I am running 2.0.8 on my Himedia Q10 Pro and to my surprise, I could not access my shares on my PC.
I have 4 Windows PC's and noticed since the 2018 April update I was getting flaky network results. Sometimes there would not be an issue, other times it would fail or take ages in File explorer to browse another PC. If I manually connected from a command prompt it would then work in Explorer.
I discovered in the command prompt that it now always return IPv6 address when you ping another machine. I decided to disable IPv6 and just use IPv4 on all machines, "Bingo". Every machine is now discovered instantly on the Network and likewise the shares and contents come up immediately when accessed.
I went back to the Himedia and yes, I now have access to my shares again.
These are the steps I needed to do for the Himedia to work on the Network.
1. Disable IPv6
2. Set static IP address on the Host machine.
3. Enable SMBv1.0 (all 3 options) on your Windows Host PC. Make sure you do enable the Server SMB component as well.
-
Thanks for the answer.
Could you please explain point numer 3 a bit more?
I don't quite understand what to do and most of all, where to do it. ???

Yes the link pcristi gives explains it perfectly.
I am still looking into why IPv6 does not work for me. Windows runs a dual stack and it looks like after the W10 April 2018 update that IPv6 is now the primary IP address.
There seems to be a name resolution issue with IPv6 and I think my Modem/Router may be the problem. I have checked all the settings but nothing makes any difference. So I will leave the network on IPv4 until I get a new modem/router, which will be shortly as I will be moving from ADSL to VDSL (which my current modem/router does not support).
But it is possible others may also run into this issue, so it is worth checking if you are having simular network issues.

Me again, still struggeling with this problem. I'd like to try this way, but how to disable IPv6 (I guess for the Q10)?
Apart from this I'm very dissappointed that, after spending several hours, I'm not able to fix this issue on my own. Really annoying...

Further to my own post above, I found recent changes to Windows 10 networking (courtesy of Microsoft's updates) and removal of HomeGroup (which I never used) has caused some issues for connected devices.
All my existing network connections have worked fine on the Q10Pro and still do.
It was when I tried to connect a new 8Tb WD Cloud Home to the network and system that the device could not be seen properly under Windows File Explorer (WD does provide a Discovery Tool that locate it on Windows and allocates a drive letter until the PC is rebooted).
On the Q10Pro, SMB network was throwing up "error" messages.
It appears that by default now, Windows Network Discovery Functions are turned off and should be changed to Auto Start:
https://windowsunplugged.blog/2018/03/27/network-computers-no-longer-present-in-file-explorer-on-windows-10-1803/
I was able to log into my WD Cloud Home (Public Folder) from the Q10Pro and it all works now (including Kodi library) ;D
-
The main problem is not the SMB stuff but the fact that since Win10 Creators Update 1703 the MasterBrowser Service is broken (and still is).
Just google for "master browser broken" an you will get tons of information on that topic.....
So anyone with a router capable of acting as the Master Browser in an SMB network should activate this feature asap :-)
I only know of ASUS with the enhanced MERLIN software which does this job exceptionally well in my network.
https://asuswrt.lostrealm.ca/
and I am sure there are other brands offering this feature - just find out if your router has it !!
-
If you are still having problems try this, got to 'Network & Internet settings' and Select 'Change Adapter Options'.
You can do this by going to Settings or right click your network adapter on taskbar and select Open Network_Internet Settings.
In the 'Change Adapter Options' screen, right click your 'Active Network Adapter' and select 'Properties'.
Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and select 'Properties' (do not deselect it).
Under 'General' tab select 'Advanced'.
In Advanced TCP/IP Settings select 'WINS' tab and then change the default NetBIOS Setting to 'Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP'.
Select 'OK' to make the change and go back to your Desktop and 'RESTART' Windows.
Now turn on your Himedia Box and go to MediaPlayer and select 'LAN' to see if you can display your Windows shares.
If that works you should be able to test that it is also working in Kodi.

Thank you for that suggestion on enabling SMB under Windows Feature 👍👍👍. Best advice after mucking about looking for a fix. As is usually the case with PCs, the fix ends up being so simple without having to dive into the router, network settings or the Q10 menu.
First open the Windows Features tab in Win10 and check that all of the SMB 1.0 features are enabled.
Give fixed ips in the router for all of your devices on the network as advised above.
See if the auto LAN Search is working on the Box, or if not, create the shortcuts again.

I still cannot get this to work. I have checked all the SMB 1.0 boxes. I have enabled the guest access feature in the registry. I can access the box from my pc but I cannot access the PC from the box no matter what I do. I can access my pc from EVERY other device I have including android phones, tablets, kindle, all my tvs using Plex and other apps.
But for some reason I cannot get the box to connect. I try in Kodi, under MediaCenter LAN, and via ES Explorer. Just will not connect. It pulls up the name of my PC but whenever I try to connect it says No Route to Host or in the MediaCenter LAN, it literally causes the machine to freeze after I enter my PC name and Password. In ES Explorer it says WLAN is off which is utter nonsense since I can access it using the same creditials in ES Explorer on all my other devices.
I have no clue what to do but it is very frustrating not to be able to access any of my 20TB of files in my PC. I have to manually move items back and forth on the hard drive initiated from the PC. I cannot do it from the box or stream anything like I used to be able to. I am hardwired direct to the router on both the box and PC.
-
I don't know if this will help but I also downgraded from 18.x Leia back to 17.6 Krypton. Leia was just too unstable. Constantly freezing and just plain bad news with the Kodi Wrapper. So far so good and will keep this setup permanently for now.

I report my experience from 2 years ago.
Through the mediacenter I could no longer access the files on my PC after migrating from Android 5 to 7.
After switching to Android 7 I got the message "Network error, please check network state" or "new server error".
During numerous attempts, I had to rename the main folder of each HDD by deleting the empty spaces with "_" es. from "FILM HD Storage 1" to "FILM_HD_Storage_1"
and immediately I had access to the subfolders and the player (Himedia Videoplayer) works regularly.
-
Sadly neither of those options help me out but hopefully they can help others who have issues connecting from the box to the pc.
-
Ok I am so confused. Now through ES Explorer app I can access my pc and all my shared folders. I just scanned and when my pc name showed up i entered my name and password and it connected right away. Yet through Mediacenter LAN nothing happens. It pulls up the pc name in search but when i enter name and password nothing happens. In Kodi not even the pc name comes up at all. I even tried entering the IP address of my pc in the add source section but it just says operation not permitted. Nothing comes up when i do a SMB search at all in Kodi. What the heck? This makes no sense at all. Why does the ES app connect but nothing else?
-
I also had a similar problem.
It only required me access from the 17th folder onwards, and I solved it in the last post of this thread.

That is beyond me. I don't have that many folders shared. Unless that includes subfolders. I have whole drives shared. All simply labeled as K, M, N, etc. Total of 6 HD shared.
Maybe I need to unshare them all and try sharing just 1 and see if that works? But why doesn't Kodi even show my PC at all? Like i can't even get to the point of adding my name and password. it doesn't show anything when i try to add source.
-
Try sharing a folder (not HDD) and check if you find it in the mediacenter.
-
Ok, I unshared all my drives and only shared a single folder. ES Explorer worked fine only showing that one folder but mediacenter had the same issue. I enter my username and password and it immediatly freezes and nothing happens.
Kodi still found nothing.
This sucks.

An extra test costs nothing, possibly to eliminate the blanks in the syntax?

I tried that as well. I even added an extra word and underscore to my folder since it was a 1 word folder to begin with. So my folder was called Challenge. I tried sharing it and nothing. I then changed the folder name to The_Challenge and still nothing. My situation is not like your was where some folders showed up and others didnt. I cannot even get mediacenter to connect to my pc in the first place. I dont get an error message. I get nothing. Just a blank screen with a frozen spinning wheel in the upper left corner of the screen after I enter my user name and password. I will upload some pics.
I do appreciate and thank you for trying to help me. I have been dealing with this issue for a long time now and have posted about it before multiple times and no one has been able to help yet.

Did you also set fixed IP?
-
Here is the step by step process. I only omitted a screenshot of my username and password.
-
Did you also set fixed IP?
Not sure. I may have at some point while trying to fix this in the past. Do you have a link so i can see the process and see if i remember doing this?
-
One pic duplicated. this should have been second in the series. JLC10 is my PC name

Ok yes I have static IP.
-
I don't know if it affects the process, but have you also activated SAMBA?
-
I don't know if it affects the process, but have you also activated SAMBA?
Yes.
To summarize I can see the Q10 from the PC and can transfer files back and for without issue.
I have Samba service started in settings in Q10
I have checked off all SMB options in Windows 10
I have enabled guest access in windows 10
I have Static IP
I can see the PC from the ES Explorer app in Q10 and all my folders are visible upon entering my user name and password in that app.
The PC name shows in MediaCenter AutoSearch but then I enter the user name and password the screen freezes and nothing happens at all. I have left it alone for hours just to see if it took a while to index the files but never happens. It just sits there no matter what I do.
Kodi does not show the PC name at all in any search I do. It used to show up under SMB search. I still have a shortcut from when I did work but that just says No Route to Host when clicking it.
I have attempted to enter my PC IP address in both MediaCenter and Kodi and get errors on both. Kodi says Option not Permitted and there is no network available.
I am hardwired both Q10 and PC directly to my router.

I can't think of anything else, the only thing I can say is to try to reset the box with the fW 2.1.6 which in the LAN section provides the Fast Search
(https://i.postimg.cc/4YYhrDpb/Fast-LAn.png) (https://postimg.cc/4YYhrDpb)
-
Serioulsy thanks again for all the help. I will try to update and see what happens. I think i am on 2.1.4. Can i go straight to 2.1.6 or is there another in between i have to do first. Also can i use the CFW that pcristi made or the official one? The 2.1.4 I am using now is his custom version. inc53854
-
Yes you can upgrade 2.1.4 to 2.1.6
https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=4847.msg31312#msg31312
Install the OFW first and after CFW as recommended by pcristi
https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.msg31509#msg31509
If you use Kodi, remember to make backups.
-
ok, i updated. I noticed the time display on the box is incorrect by 7 hours. It is correct on the homepage though so not sure what the issue is. I also lost my home page formatting. I am not sure how i got the one i had but it looked very different than the one i see now. I used to have 3 columns of tiles in uniform size and now there is just a handful spread vertically but in different sizes.
But anyway. So I went to mediacenter LAN and tried the Fast Search. It came back as No Server. I tried the Standard search and it shows my PC name but the same issue happens when I enter my username and password. Just freezes and has blank blue screen with half a spinning icon in the upper left corner as shown in my pic posted earlier.
The ES Explorer app worked fine. It showed my PC name, I entered my username and password and it shows my shared folder and I was even able to play a file streaming via Kodi. Only through ES Explorer though. Nothing in mediacenter nor the Kodi app itself. It does not pull up my pc name at all when trying to add source.
-
Ugh and now my Kodi backup is not working. I made 2 backups in anticipation of doing the upgrade and neither one is restoring. Took me hours of time to get all my settings to where I wanted it. This is so frustrating.
So bottom line for whatever reason I will not be able to access my PC from this box. Yet I can connect to the box from the PC and can connect to the PC from the box using the ES Explorer app. It literally makes zero sense. Something in the firmware is preventing me from accessing the PC since the app has no issue.
-
I gotta downgrade from this firmware. It is so slow and basically unusable.
-
I don't know what happened, but the FW 2.1.6 makes the box faster on startup.

Not for me and I mean trying to navigate or click on apps. Everything is delayed and slow. Maybe it was a bad install. I will try again
-
The install must have been faulty. I actually did the 2.1.7 OFW with the patch and it is much faster now. And my backup worked for Kodi.
But it didn't solve my issue at all. I still cannot connect from the box to the PC AND now I can no longer access the box from the PC. I have no idea what happened but when i click on the link for the box on my PC it says it is no longer connected and not on the network. So now have no way to transfer files back and forth.
I fail to understand why this crap happens and it won't work like it is supposed to.

I was finally able to get my folders in the media center! I was never able to connect to the PC via the Fast or Standard Searches but I manually added the share with my IP address, then creating one folder and sharing that and then using the NTFS Symbolic Link feature to add all my HD links within that one folder so now everything is accessible using that shortcut. Very happy.
Still cannot figure Kodi out though which is my preferred interface but finally made progress after many months of not being able to access my PC so I am pleased today.
Thanks to everyone in this thread for the help especially DMD.

.....then creating one folder and sharing that and then using the NTFS Symbolic Link feature to add all my HD links within that one folder so now everything is accessible using that shortcut. .....
It reminds me of my situation of years ago with symbolic links, but this happened because in the sharing it did not allow to exceed the number of 16 folders.

That is exactly how I did it. I read your posts and the responses and got the folders to show.

Yes. I created a new folder simply labeled Q10 and inside that I dropped junction links to each of my drives. I then entered that folder name in the MediaCenter add share section and have a shortcut now that opens directly to that main folder and all my individual drives are listed in it. I can click on each one and all subfolders pull up. Works great.
-
I noticed my transfer speed is very slow now going from PC to box. Any thoughts on why it dropped so much? Is there some setting I need to change? I am getting like 15 MB/s when I was getting over 80 before I updated firmware.
