Title: Himedia H8 Feature Request
Post by: futeko.com on October 17, 2015, 12:38:11 PM
We've not done this before, but this thread will be a list of feature requests for Himedia H8.

No guarantees that Himedia will act on the list, but it will help better inform them what people want.

The 1.0.7 firmware fixed/added a lot, so this list is only for features after 1.0.7. If you've not installed 1.0.7 please do, it's very good.

3, CEC Support
4, Skin Support in Kodi (Not currently availably in 1.0.7)

I'm pretty sure 1, 2, 4 work in 1.0.7 once you get add-on installation fixed. No problems with installing add-ons here.

If you need to reinstall Kodi then custom Himedia Kodi is here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/0f3sbzidd2vlv3z/Kodi_15.1_151000.apk

Addons work after I reinstalled Kodi... Still no PVR clients in the addons repo though... Can't find the repo on the net to add manually either..

I tried re-installing Kodi because of my lost "addon support"
Couldn't enter any repositories. Weird.

I just redid the firmware update to 1.0.7 and I still have can't add any VIDEO ADDONS.

Trying to re-install Kodi for the 10th time......MAN this SUCKS!

NO SUCCESS - the Himedia Custom Kodi_15.1_151000.apk DOESN'T work for me , I tried MANY , MANY times.

For now I install a NON-Himedia Kodi from the Kodi Downloads and installed ** to watch some of my shows until someone can help me or there is a fix for not being able to add video addons

Is there a way to clear something from the device to enable the entry into a repository for Video-Addons?

HELP Please!

Clovis,

Try uninstalling Kodi then restarting your box, (turn off then turn on) for some reason it reinstalled the 1.0.7 version correctly for me with addons..

Mort..

That did bring back the VIDEO_ADD ONS but not the current version ?? Maybe different ?? Notice the compiled date. It should read Oct 9 2015 but the Git# is the same.

NO Skin Support.

Open for more suggestion,
Thanks!

Himedia don't usually supply their products rooted. It causes problems with some streaming services.

What would be good is if someone could figure out how to root H8 and provided instructions.

Can you add support of AUDIO_DEVICE_IN_USB_DEVICE as main audio capture  ?
I'm not able to use Skype. Video is broadcast fine but as audio is one big noise.
Any  video chat  software  wechat, skype, hangout is not able to capture audio from usb webcam/mic ex c270.
I was able to capture audio from webcam/mic c270 by "usb audio recorder" without any issues ,
so i believe that H8 have configuration problem in audio policy or default capture audio device is not set properly.

Thanks

Here are my wishes :) for the HiMedia Player (with weighting: top/bottom -> highest/lowest priority):

1. Fast Forward in 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x with picture.

2. If the right/left arrow navigation key on the IR remote control is pressed continuously the cursor on the time line should move continuously and the actual cursor time position should also be displayed.
For example in this style:
Code: [Select]
----|----->-------------------------------------------------------
00:12:43/00:29:18                                         01:53:48
actual-play-position/actual-cursor-position               end-time

3. Possibility to enter the time via IR remote control number keys for a jump-to-time play function.

4. Fast Rewind in 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x with picture.

5. Chapter support in mkv playback. That means, if I press short the right/left double-arrow-dash key on IR remote the player jumps to the next/previous chapter. If I press long the player plays the next/previous file.

6. Enhance the "Video Info" with the Framerate, actually only the Resolution is shown.

Another feature request:
- fall back to English as a locale when a factory reset has done (Chinese locale is hard to read / even switching the locale is a challenge when you do not know where to look).

That would be better for non-Chinese boxes, I agree.

A factory reset on an Android box is never a good idea though, you'll usually lose some pre-installed apps. It is always better to do a full firmware reinstall.

The H8 does not support exFAT file format on SD-Cards.
The exFAT file system supports large files and is optimised for flash memory access.
Every actual Microsoft Windows OS is supporting this format from stock.
(Because the H8 is not rooted it is impossible to install any exFAT App.)

Please add exFAT file format support to the H8.

I would say that the ability to play audio files in good lossless quality like 192/24 or at least 96/24 over HDMI is very needed now this should be a all in one box.

Cheers

My request:

a configuration would be useful, where after a power-on the H8 goes to standby (red LED).
This should be an option for the user, which is stored in the H8.

I have a central power bar, which provides power to all my equipment.
So if I only want to use my audio equipment, the H8 will not waste power.
Now I have always to switch off the H8 with the remote in this case.

1. I see a request for CEC support, it is a great feature however I suggest also to have the option CEC ON/OFF available. Some boxes (not H8) implemented CEC support however the user cannot switch off this feature, besides CEC "should" be universal compatible, very often CEC does not work properly because so many brands and variations in the market and it will cause problems for users.

2. SPDIF (optical out): Currently there are no direct options to control SPDIF such as SPDIF ON/OFF, bitstream, raw, LPCM. It have something to choose inside Settings >> Playback >> HDMI Output however in my opinion it is not enough. Currently I am facing issues using the firmware 1.0.7, my SPDIF is OFF (no light) and I only could solve this problem returning back the firmware to an older version

Suggestions:
1. CEC support with switch ON-OFF option
2. SPDIF options

Rooting it might void your warranty!

"Instruction to root H8 (adapted from ROOT_via_LAN for Q5/Q10 post by @puiut)
1. Download ROOT_via_LAN_5.1.1.rar to your computer from here (http://www.mediafire.com/?ghwu554gdg3m2ou).
2. Connect your H8 to router and write down your H8 IP address from setting / network
3. Connect your computer with the same router(network)
4. Extract the files from no 1. and run "ROOT_via_LAN_5.1.1.bat"
5. When it prompt "Press any key to continue", just press any key.
6. Type the IP address that you've wrote in no.2. and press Enter.
7. H8 will automatically restart and in My Apps there will be SuperSU which means that it already been root.
8. Run SuperSU and if is prompt for update binary, choose Yes.
9. Run application that needs Root access and SuperSU confirmation will be appear. "

Can you please see if they can turn on the functionality to use a USB Bluetooth receiver so that audio can be streamed from a phone to the home theatre system.

Similarly, can screen mirroring be updated to allow direct from a phone using the built in screen mirroring function.  I am running Android 5.0 Lollipop on a Samsung Note 3 and can't seem to get it to work directly from the phone without a special app - the H8 wants me to register for a wechat app to download screen mirroring software.

Hi,

I just got my H8 Octa box and what I could see that there is no option to choose for Eastern Europe subtitle characters so letters like
"c", "s" and "z" with checkmark, also d with dash and "dz" combined (z again with checkmark)
are not properly displayed when using subtitles in .srt format.

It would be great if this could be implemented in both Kodi and Mediacenter in the next upgrade.

Christmas is coming soon, so I would highlight these features on the wish list (for Western world models):

-change defaults storage location (2GB is not enough if you install several apps - unfortunately not everything can be moved to SD)
-support for USB audio devices such as microphones
-navigation bar (back, home, open tabs) and notification/status bar in standard Android launcher

Thanks for passing it on to Himedia!

Cheers,
Flo

First of all H8 is a Media-Player!
So I would prefer that all of the basic functions of a media player will be fixed and implemented
(AV synch, 23.976, external and internal subtitles support with at least UNICODE code-page support,
working fast forward/backward replay with moving video, working forward/backward jumps, etc.)
before such Smart-Phone things will get implemented.

@fload: The H8 has 16GB Flash-Memory. The 2GB that you mentioned is RAM!
Title: Re: Himedia H8 Feature Request
Post by: fload on December 22, 2015, 08:02:27 AM
@HDMediaplayer: Actually, I was not referring to RAM but to the internal storage reserved for the system & apps (the default location). Apparently this is limited to 2GB which is not a lot. If I install new applications I now regularly get the message not enough storage - although there would be enough on the general flash memory. So the "system partition" seems to be too small. And some apps (e.g. all system apps, Google drive...) cannot be moved to the SD (the "general flash memory").

I just got a response from Himedia about the topic: "Our later version has  been solved this issue. You could download our later version to take care of this. It will realese really soon."
Let's see what this means in specific.

it would be very important to have the passtruth also 2-channel stereo on hdmi,to use a high-quality external DAC,
and leave the original signal output.
then get to avr with signals 24-44,1 or 24-96 or also 24-192 which it depends on the track played.
sorry for my english, but I use a translator. thank you.

After some confusing emails from Himedia, I got the following answer:
"The design for the H8(allocating 2GB for system partrition)is already done and can not be changed. Let's say, this setting is like the DNA of H8. So we could make any more change. But for the later model(new model), we might consider allocating a bigger system partrition."

So it looks like we have to live with the small system partition. :(

Hi,

I already wrote about this but this hasn`t changed in the new firmware so I am writing again.

Some letters will not be shown properly if they are not encoded in UTF-8 which is not convenient because majority of .srt subs are encoded in ANSI. When you play a movie which lasts 2 hours, it is annoying to see strange letters in almost every sentence. What is the use of an option to download external subtitle in KODI when this will not be shown properly and when all subs you have to change manually on a PC?
This is a media player so this should work like a charm and this is a big negligence.

Please report this to Himedia, they need to finally fix this (as well as 23.976 fps stutter problem which is still there).

A nice feature would be a "NATIVE" Resolution option. In other words: The box should give out any material with the original resolution and the original framerate of the source material. Without any upconversion, de-interlacing etc.

Kind Regards

Another nice  feature:

Chapter jump (with the buttons from the remote controll) in BDMV Structures. Right now the Chapter Jump Buttons only work in ISO images. When i use the Chapter Jump Button when playing from BDMV Structures the player always displays "last chapter", no matter in wich chapter your are in.

Kind Regards

Feature Request:

I would like to be able to install a 64bit version of android OS.

The product was marketed as 64bit. Yes, the processor supports 64bit but a 32bit version of the OS is pre-installed and not upgradable (thus = not 64bit).
Kodi 17 Krypton supports 64 bit. I was hoping to explore potential performance increase running 64bit and utilizing the hardware specs available?

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same feeling. There are still big annoying bugs (AV-asynch, 3D-ISO problems, youtube stutter, etc.) in the firmware which make it impossible to use the H8 octa as Media Player. I don't use the H8 anymore, I bought two RaspberryPi's and use LibreELEC.

SoC of year 2015 from Allwinner, Rockchip is was bad choose for media player suppliers, so they can't deal alone more that 6 month.
BTW, All Android BOX TV are overlaid in maxim 1 year, by new SoC or not support from SoC supplier to follow Android new version.

question to HiMedia about H8 update to 1.1.4...

"The H8 is now majorly replaced by H8 Plus, H8 Lite. I think it probably might not have update too frequently. I am sorry. But i will let you know if there is update."

The H8 its a big lie.. if HiMedia wants some customers back, they should swap the H8 to H8 Plus for the H8 owners.

and yes; 1.1.3 dont work properly. i have some audio dropouts... i change back to 1.1.2 and this works.

I too, among numerous others, am having problems with fw 1.1.3 and audio drop out problems on passthrough.  The issue is present both in kodi and the himedia player.

Futeko or pcristi, is it possible to forward a note on the issue to the Himedia team, please?  They definitely need to resolve this issue on the h8 octa.
