Title: Non working Play Store in Himedia Q10 pro
Post by: cutefix on April 26, 2018, 02:42:46 AM
Greetings guys.. Recently, I got a Q10 pro. During the initial use, I noticed that the Play Store just won't open. When I clicked it it just opened a blank screen them quickly closed by itself. I tried remove it but it says it will return to factory settings and will remove installed apps already in the unit. My question if I go for factory reset of the Play Store will it not affec? t the OS..hence creating more errors or problem for the unit.? Will it only affect the installed apps and not revert to the lollipop or Android 5 IS. When I opened the unit I noticed that the OS is  version 7.0 or Nougat. I hope someone can provide me a clarification or solution to this malfunctioning Play Store.
BTW. I had already signed in in the Google account in that Q10 pro so I can access email and make other apps work. I can't download or update other apps unless the Play store works properly. I have tried to delete the cache hoping it will work but there is no such thing in that particular Playstore in Q10 Pro.

factory reset will wipe off your own installed apps, but the latest firmware installed be be retained.
in yr case, i suggest u do a reset using the pin method.
then, do local upgrade step by step to firmware 2.0.4 first, then jump to latest 2.0.8.
best to read carefully the links with procedure details.

I appreciate your reply, but not thoroughly understood why if the firmware is not affected by factory reset of play store, then why there is a need for firmware update.? .. BTW as I am A newbie user of smart TV box, am not familiar with the exact details. Sorry...
Further.. I am currently in Asia and I read that those links are for the European version of the the Himedia Q10 pro only. So from my vantage point what will work specific to my region..?

i am quite sure if you had bought the box outside china, it is int'l version.
i am in asia too!

firmwares are never perfect, sometimes badly bugged, sometimes minor; hence the need for continuous updates.
this playstore or google locked out is a known issue; i have seen it myself.
the latest firmware 2.0.8 apparently solved this google crash problem, read changelog:

if newbie, you do need to spend some time reading, trying and understand how this box work.

I don't know what firmware your device is on but for me up to version 2.07 I had the same problem. Google play store/play services has been fixed in firmware 2.08.

If you want to retain your firmware version on your device:
Go into settings, apps and find the google play services app.
Click on google play services, it opens, click on the 3 dots at the top right hand corner of the screen and unsinatll google play services updates.
This will allow you to open google play store app now.

Comment:
If you are logged in and stay logged into google play store account then there should be no more trouble with google play store app.
The Google play services app updates itself automatically somehow whether you are logged in or logged out of play store account, even if you have turned off auto updates. So if you are logged out of play store you will have to uninstall the play services app update again to get play store working.
You Tube and Chrome require updated google play services app and they will nag and will not open until play services app is updated to the latest version.

As I was unable to open the play store right the moment I first booted up the q10 pro I was not logged to the play store but only to the chrome and Gmail account. I saw a notice for an update of the Chrome but I can't update it also. I have checked the settings in update but it said I got the latest version but did not say what firmware version. One of my concern is the suggested forced update using a pinhole which is not that simple. Who knows I might "brick" my new q10 pro is I am not careful in my manipulation and timing. Is there an easier way to do such firmware update if required?Further once play store is running well is it mandatory to update firmware regularly. Because I adhere to the adage, "If ain't broken or defective then why fix it.."..?
Click on settings in UI, you see a row of boxes.
Box no. 5 displays the firmware no... HMDxxxx
Click on it, device info, you see all info.
I wont be surprised if it is 2.0.4 or 2.05.

New firmwares fix bugs as they are found and reported.
If you do not update, those bugs remain; certain features and capabilities will not work or work well.

You can try local update with USB which will keep existing apps in place but this may not work well as it is not a "clean" install.
Do not be afraid to use pin restore; i have done it a dozen times with my boxes!

When you try to uninstall the PlayStore app it will ask if you want to replace with the original version. This is perfectly OK, just select yes. This will return the PlayStore app ONLY to factory version. Then reboot. Then leave your unit for a short before clicking the PlayStore app, if it hasn't already done so, it will begin downloading and installing the latest version. Once completed, it should work normally.

I followed your suggestion and it worked perfectly.. Now I can use the play store to update my apps. Thank You!

After being in storage for 9 months (moved house), I have just set up my system again and PlayStore is giving me problems once more. I have tried the restore factory app for both the Store and the Services but the Store keeps closing when I try update anything despite being correctly logged into my account.
Is this anything to do with the fact that Himedia are not listed as an approved Google certified manufacturer?
Can anyone recommend a solution please?

What firmware version?

I advise reinstalling latest firmware.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I am running 2.01.
I have discovered that my box is not retaining the time settings correctly, neither manual nor network enabled, whatever is set is eventually lost and the box reverts to Jan 1st 2015 00:00. This then throws me out of any network and/or cancels my downloads. This is making it impossible to update at the moment.
Any suggestions?

I suggest installing latest firmware. 2.0.1 is 20 months old.

But as I said, it's not holding the time/date so I can't complete any downloads and I have no access to a pc/laptop.

The box isn't designed to store date/time. They get updated at bootup when the box is connected to the internet.

I think Play Store needs date/time to work correctly, so it's the lack of date/time that is the problem. Since the box doesn't have any hardware to store date/time this is purely a software issue and my best advice is to update the firmware to something more recent than 2.0.1. What's the reason you are still running 2.0.1?

I was still running 2.01 because it was working perfectly well for me, so I saw no need to update something that wasn't broke.
I have managed now to download the files (on someone else's computer) and have updated 201>203>204>209.
The box is running but PlayStore still sometimes throws up the error and closes.
PLUS, ES Explorer Pro no longer works for transferring files over my network and I have lost access to several of my paid apps as PlayStore is saying my device is not compatible  >:( >:( >:(.... Exactly the kind of thing that I was trying to avoid!

The product (Q10 pro) is still not recognized as play certified. If that is the case then the software probably is illegal. Had it upgraded to 2.1.4 didn't work and then downgrade to 2.0.8 and still the same error saying google play is not certified. Such an expensive media player and one needs to deal with these problems and now it seems I need to buy another product just to work around the google certified error as you can't even correct it on updates. If this is the case I won't look to but products from this manufacturer in the near future.

Such a bizarre response to a thread that had its last meaningful response three years ago and based on zero knowledge of law.

'Play Certified' is not a legal prerequisite to accessing the Play Store. I can build my own Linux distribution and access the Play Store. That distribution is not 'Play Certified' and it's definitely not illegal.
