Does this firmware fix the frame rate switching issues?

It auto-switches correctly at all resolutions for 23.976/24/25. Including below 1080p.

But not for 29.97/59.94. Full and better controlled auto-switching will come in future firmware. In the meantime full switching can be achieved via the pcristi patch: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1043.0

A clean install will be better for repair defaults of previous firmware, just like format then install window vs upgrade directly over previous version of Window

Upgraded following the Menu procedure without any problems. Did not see the UI-error this time.
Will repeat with the pin-procedure whenever in doubt about a new error.

Everything seems to run just fine. Will go over my own report this weekend and will document changes/effects.
Will also install the auto-framerate script of pcristi as I run a mix of PAL and NTSC based DVD''s.

Do you still need to install (or beneficial)  the wrapper for Kodi after the firmware update? Also after new firmware install Kodi had an update on the Google apps which I carried out.

If the App is still present the answer is an easy YES.
Even if....worst case would be the installation info...that wrapper was already present.
So need to ask!

Hello!

I have a question regrding the firmware upgrade (this is my first time I upgrade such a thing):

Your description says: . (the USB pen drive should contain a single file called 'update.zip').->This sounds a bit confusing.

What does that mean precisely? It means that I must have both the unzipped content and the downloaded original update.zip file  in the root of the pendrive?

The instruction here is a bit cloudy and I'm not sure what supposed I dig under "single file". Could you be a bit more specific, please?

Thank you!

There should be only one file on the pen drive, the 'update.zip' file.

You'll find this file inside the firmware package (i.e. 'Q10_PRO_FIRMWARE._1.0.5-FUTEKO-EN._HMD-1.0.5_2016-07-07.151525.zip').

So extract 'update.zip' from the package zip to the pen drive.

As below (using Linux Mint file manager)

Just finished updating to this firmware. Iam still unable to bitstream TrueHD Atmos files and DTS-HD-MA through the Kodi Wrapper. All Atmos files are reverting to stereo on my Marantz 7009 receiver and DTS-HD-MA are showing up as DTS Surround. Was this release meant to be fix these issue with the Kodi wrapper desampling down the original sound? I tested on my HTPC and have no issue b**ing the native sound without any desampling.

Are there any work arounds as one of the key features was to be able to bitstream native sound given the Q10's hardware should be more than capable.

ATMOS and DTS-HD MA should and do bitstream correctly via Kodi+wrapper. They did on previous firmware and do on this one too.

Settings in Setting - Playback should be HDMI Output: RAW. SPDIF Output: Close. HBR Output: RAW7.1.

Since Ive had the device I have not been able to bitstream ATMOS and DTS-HD MA on all the released firmware revisions.
The only setting I had in playback that was different was the SPDIF which was RAW and just set to close and this did not fix my issue.

I also checked the Video Settings in Kodi "expert level" to allow bitstream and DTS capable receiver option and still no full bitstream via Kodi.

Is the Wrapper settings in the Apps page meant to be set to Kodi or Wrapper player?

If you use the wrapper then Kodi audio settings make no difference.

Setting for the wrapper are the main system settings. i.e. Settings - Playback from home screen.

It should definitely work. We had a few problems with Denon amps in particular, some of which were resolved by updating the firmware on the amp. That might be worth a go. http://firmware.marantz.eu/index.php

When I used the "Media Centre" app via UPNP to my server this streams atmos and all other formats no issue...
I have the latest firmware from Marantz so Im thinking theres an issue with Kodi or the wrapper at this point as the native Media Centre app isnt having an issue.

Do you definitely have wrapper installed? Behaviour using wrapper should be exactly the same as with mediacentre app. They are basically the same thing behind the scenes.

In Kodi go Video - Files and navigate using remote to a file. Press remote menu key, you should get a 'play using..' option giving the choice of wrapper or DVDplayer (Kodi internal player). Do you get this choice?

Not yet... as all framerates should be supported at all resolutions, and microstutters or "jitters" should be squashed. This would make Q5/Q10 Pro an 'A' I'd think you all would agree.

For A+, I'd expect the following additional items:
- 3D MVC support in MKV
- Rough left edge fixed, now visible (at least w/last 1.0.3 f/w) in zero-overscan displays like projectors
- The slight judder with VC-1 / 1080i / 29.97 FPS videos fixed

I suggest trying again and making sure you follow the instructions exactly as written.

It sounds like the box hasn't recognised the update file.

The USB stick should contain a single file named 'update.zip'.

You need to unpack ONCE! In the downloaded file there is the update.zip plus a txt-file with update log.

Just put the zip file you unpacked onto a stick.
ROOT-directory no subdir or something.

File 'update.zip' on USB pen drive:

I use Linux, so that's Linux file manager (Nemo). With Windows / Mac it will look slightly different but same basic idea. One file, 'update.zip', which you'll find in the firmware download package!

I went into Kodi navigated to a file and pressed "menu" I did not get an option to "play using" with the option to choose either the wrapper or Kodi internal player.
Do i need to reinstall the wrapper? I thought doing a new install with 1.0.5 had the wrapper already pre-installed and functional.

Any help would be great as this seems to be whats causing my  bitstreaming issues!

In the "My Apps" page I navigate to the wrapper and it now gives you the option to set either to Kodi Player or wrapper. Ive tried both and when I go to a file and press "menu" the only options are (queue item | Play from here | Add to Favorites | Marked as watched) I dont get the option to choose either wrapper or Kodi...

I was also hoping that in the Wrapper page in the My apps folder entering my samba account and password would allow me to map my Samba path to my Server share with all my movies. The other methods to access the pwd protected share have'nt worked for me as Ive been using upnp to access my files but it can be sometimes slow for my Server with dlna enabled to be detected by the Q10.

hi futeko... i flashed my box with the given firmware (aside from himedia's official site , futeko.com is the only place at which we can rest assured that the firmware is official)....
with the 24Hz mode enabled , the 1080p/60Hz mkv files the micro stutters are gone.
the thing is , using himedia video player (with wrapper) , there are some video artifacts (with or without 24Hz mode enabled). i actually noticed them when getting close to my samsung  js9500 4k led tv..... such distortions or artifacts are not present on kodi 16.1 (without wrapper that is)..... kindly try both players for the same mkv file and you will notice'em for sure..... aside from the mentioned regression , the whole q10 pro experience is totally awesome. thanks bro

You can do this and it does work fine  :D
Futeko are playing safe as the recommended upgrade removes all previous settings and resets everything (including Kodi) to "as new".
You can always re-install the new firmware using the pin method if you are not happy with the standard upgrade outcome.

Works fine but whit kodi it's not possible anymore to chose how to play the videos: Kofi or wrapper. If you want to use Kofi to download subtititle , you will have first to change the setting in the wrapper !

It is possible to choose between Kodi DVD player and Wrapper, but if the Wrapper is selected in advance.
My Apps - Wrapper - Kodi video player settings - choose Set to Wrapper player.

With the pinhole update method, will it essentially wipe the system for the upgrade? Should i backup my apps/settings with sth like Titanium Backup?

I like to know this too? I changed many personel settings I don't like to lose!
 Maybe wait for the OTA?

Hi lads!

I was checking this forum daily and was waiting for a new firmware update what fixes the well known issues...
Can someone confirm that this update fixed the full automatic framerate switch and the microstutter issue present in any resolution at 23.976?

This should disappear after the first boot with internet enabled and a reboot. It shouldn't really happen on first boot, but if it does it is related to Play Store updating itself.

A cable problem? The box thinks your max HDMI resolution is 1080p50.

Presuming you're using HDMI for audio (as you must because SPDIF is 5.1 channel max) then settings in Settings - Playback should be:

HDMI Output: RAW
HBR Output: RAW7.1

Do I need to turn on the "24p mode" in the the player menu for automatic framrate switching? I have tried some 23.976fps video without the "24p mode" and it won't switch the framerate automaticly, and stays as it is on the deskstop. And if i turn on the "24p mode" won't the other fps videos, like 50fps or 29fps etc, played also in 24p?

Also: do I need to turn on "HDMI auto adaption" for this?

Thanks!

My experiences with the firmware 1.05:
Stutter is still the same.  :( Only in 3D it is okay.
After shutdown, the box does not retain the resolution settings. If I set to 2160p 60Hz and I shut down it and then after turn on, I always get 1080i 60Hz  :(
Autoswitch still does not work  :(

No need to turn on HDMI auto adaptation. That just adjusts output resolution / refresh rate to what the Q5/Q10 Pro thinks is the optimal. I would leave it off if you know what is the best resolution / refresh.

24p mode will only switch for 23.976 and 24fps content. With current firmware all other frame rates will be played at the system refresh rate. Full auto switching (i.e. adding 29.970 / 25 / 30 / 59.940 to correct output rates) will be added in future firmware or can be added now with this patch: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1043.0

I have also a question regarding the 23.967 contetnts: Turning on 24p mode means that also the 23.967 videos will play at 24fps (and not on 23.967), correct?!

Cause I have tried a few 23.976fps video (with 24p mode turned on)  and all of them was played at 24p, as shown on the screen with my TV-s "Info" button, which displays the current resolution and Hz... ???

Two possibilities.

1. Your TV will probably display '24p' when outputting in 23.976Hz. '24p' is often, confusingly, used as shorthand for 23.976.

2. With current firmware it appears that 23.976 is being output as 24.000Hz in some circumstances. This is in the process of being fixed by Himedia, along with implementing full auto framerate switching (so 25/30/29.97/59.94).

Since 1.05 I can't reproduce the HDD detection problem on the USB3 port anymore.
A complicating factor is that I changed my setup. Now using a 4-port docking instead of individual HDD Enclosures.

Anyway all drives in the Docking are now always detected also on the USB3 port.
If others can confirm this maybe that bug was solved (non reported fix)?
I was triggered by somebody who confirmed that USB-3 Slave detection was fixed with 1.05 FW. So moved my Docking Bay back to the USB3 Host port.

It's a minor update to fix a couple of bugs. HiMedia decided to keep the build number the same but increase version number.

This is not the newest firmware for Q10 Pro.

As of today, 26th August 2016, I recommend you install latest 1.0.7: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1130.0

An updated list of firmwares for Q5 / Q10 Pro is here (for anyone reading this in the future..): http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=711.0

A reinstall using the upgrade button on the back will wipe user settings. We recommend this method. You can also update via the system menu but it might introduce bugs/problems. A clean reinstall is always best.
