Have installed a used  HDD  and formatted  as per instructions. I have transfer files well over 100 Mbps, very Happy :) using the usb3 cable. The  5M cable can go through the wall reaching the Hi Media connected to the  TV and would love to keep this great speed transfer , but once the USB 3 cable is connected to the  Media Player, I can no longer read the internal HHD through the media centre.
When cable is disconnected everything works perfectly.
Am I doing something wrong

Does it work when the External HDD is connected via a short USB3 cable? For USB3 a cable of 5M is really long. I don't recall official limits.

Too many power requirements for Q10 Pro?  Have your External USB drive connected thru a powered hub...

This sounds familiar.
I tried a lot with my HDD to get it to work inside the Q10 Pro.
Always had to put it back in a case and use it as an external HDD, because it wasn't recognized by the Q10 Pro, only by our PCs in the network.
But - there was always a long USB cable leading from my PC to the back of the Q10 Pro.
I am currently wiping the HD in question, will reformat it to GPT/NTFS, put it in the Q10 Pro without that USB cable being connected.
I hope that works, otherwise i'll have to send the box back. :\

edit:
Are you f*****g kidding me.
Seems like it really was that USB cable.
Booting up Q10 Pro with internal HDD and no USB cable connected - HDD is recognized.
Put in USB cable - HDD vanishes from file explorer.
Will test some more.

edit2:
It really was that cable. -.-

Hi,
i've used this method to format my new HDD (Seagate 1TB).

Us the slave usb conected to my mac, and formating EXT3 the hdd using paragon exfs for mac.
The q10pro detected the hdd perfectly

the problems started when i tried to play any movie i copied to the hdd.
The q10pro doesn't play any movie, giving me a "video issues"

a couple of movies of the hdd:

ERROR trying to play one movie:

The funny this is that the q10pro can play any of those movies through the network using samba:

what can I do to make it work and play movies well?

thanks

The WD80EFZX is a nice HDD, but above my budget. Using a Seagate a 8TB Archive  instead. That one also does its job.
Regarding performance and heat/power that does not make a difference when used for a media player. The WD should be more reliable.

Speaking of heat, how are you guys doing? I had a spare 2TB WD Black that I tried in there and I could have baked eggs on the unit. So I went with a 250Gb SSD instead and use large and much better ventilated external drives instead.

The SATA port of the q10 looks extremely slow, so I think  investing in a fast drive is a total waste of money. You better aim for low power/quiet and cool.

I did everything according to instructions, but why Q10 sees the hard drive as sd card? and a drive name is sda2? while formatting I called it :A
My player working on android 7.

Android likes to think of all external storage as being an SD card. It makes no difference to how it performs and in fact helps with compatibility with apps that expect all external storage to be an SD card (like a phone).

I followed the steps in the first post.  My  Q10 pro is stock with 1.0.6 firmware Android 5.1.1. The HDD i installed was WD Blue 3TB 5400rpm SATA 6Gb/s 64MB

1) First using a USB 3.0 A-B cable with the HDD installed into the Q10 Pro. Managed initialize and format 3TB WD Blue HDD into GPT/NTFS in Windows 10
2) Using HDD USB 3.0 to SATA enclosure.  Managed initialize and format 3TB WD Blue HDD into GPT/NTFS in Windows 10

In both scenarios, I am able to use the HDD within Windows 10 environment but not able to detect the HDD in Q10 Pro. I verified that the SATA port in the Q10 Pro was working by installing an old 1TB MBR/NTFS drive. My drives shows up as pictured below.

I saw several suggestion to initialize and format new HDD in a PC before using it in my Q10 Pro. Unfortunately I don't have a PC to do so. Any workarounds? Should I upgrade my firmware? Thank you for your advice.

Just installed FW1.0.9. HDD still not showing up in my Q10 pro.

I partitioned my HDD 3TB into half (GPT/NTFS) to reduce partition size to below 2TB per partition.  HDD not showing up in Q10 pro either.

3.0TB WD BLUE WD30EZRZ (Disk 1)

Could this be an issue of incompatibility with my WD Blue? I have seen many people here having success with drives >2TB. Any other workarounds? Thank you.

That is just how Android see storage. A:, C: etc are Windows drive names.

To mount the drives according to label or UUID see here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1421.0

Any solution to this issue yet?
Facing the same problem, if i want q10 to detect the HDD, i must unplug the usb cable connected to it first, which is quite troublesome as ill be transferring movies to the q10 with HDD inserted.

This is how the box works. The USB transfer feature is meant for one off file transfers and not a constant connection via USB to a PC.

If you want to do regular transfer Samba or FTP should be used. If you install an FTP server on Q10 Pro transfer is very fast.

Hi. I read the message above warning that this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days but as a newbie do not where else to post my experience following the first video.
Having spent most of the day reading topics on this subject and following instructions I finally found the first video which got me a 95% solution. However there was an omission at the end of the video. After formatting the volume in Disk Management win 7 shows as     New Volume  it requires a drive letter . Once that was given the drive was visible in windows and allowed files to be copied across. Hope I a treading on any bodies toes.
Learnt a lot today. Many thanks to all for help.
