Title: An alternative to Samba on Zidoo Z1000 Pro
Post by: maelor on August 25, 2020, 08:32:50 PM
:) :) :)  Samba is now available for all the new Zidoo models and is working well  :) :) :)

So the rest of this post can be ignored!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Samba and NFS may not be available on the Zidoo Z1000 Pro YET but web support certainly is, and works perfectly as a network file manager!!!

I already had a registered copy of Fx File Manager so I thought I would give it a try ... it works. You might need to register for advanced features?

http://www.nextapp.com/fx/

Install the app on the Zidoo Z1000 Pro via Play Store

http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx&hl=en_GB

Run it and simply click on the Web Access tool icon.

The app responds with the instruction on how to link your Windows web browser

http://192.168.x.x/2112 (the local IP address and port of your Zidoo box)

and supplies you with a password.

On your Windows desktop, run your web browser (I use Google Chrome), type in those details and Zidoo's "Main Storage" appears on the browser with a drop down menu for "Media Card" (the HDD inside the Zidoo box) and "USB Storage".

You then have full file management (transfer, delete, rename, ...) as you would with Samba! Use a Windows Explorer window to drag-and-drop files from the computer to the Zidoo box. Perfect.

***IMPORTANT***: Switch the Zidoo screen saver OFF before you start!!! If you leave it open it will crash the link when it kicks in!

I've been using it for a few days and no problems so far.

Samba and NFS may not be available on the Zidoo Z1000 Pro

Just to clarify, because I've seen confusion about this on other forums, SAMBA/NFS ON NEW ZIDOO WORKS PERFECTLY WELL FOR ACCESSING FILES on a network (NAS etc), the issue is that the new Zidoo boxes have NO SAMBA HOST facility at the moment, so it's difficult to share files FROM the Zidoo to other devices on the network. On the previous generation Zidoo boxes this facility came from OpenWRT, which is missing from the new boxes (Realtek decision). Zidoo are working on adding an alternative Samba host facility to the new boxes and I don't expect it to take them too long.

Thanks for the tip re. web access in the interim.

Must say that the 6.0.30 update solved the SMB issues i had with UHD rips from NAS. Still trying to find where on the 9 i put in the local networkname with the SAMBA server though...

FW v6.0.30 adds a Samba (SMB) basic Server but with no options: Read/write access for all drives without a logon.

The good news it that it works well and with a good performance.
