Title: New Official (?) 2.1.6 Firmwares + some new patch
Post by: Mount81 on July 22, 2020, 01:01:51 PM
On HiMedia's official Hungarian (dealers) support Forum, there have been a new (said as) official 2.1.5 firmware published. ->Link (http://himedia.hu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=377)

I won't translate the whole stuff, please use your browsers translator to read the changelog.

(The title says 2.1.6, but the Device info shows 2.1.5, but I guess this doesn't matter much).

One think to aware: as it seams based on some Chinese FW version the Google services related apps aren't integrated! (Which could be fixed with a corresponding new patch, that adds these services, but the link to the patch (http://www.mediafire.com/file/lyt3i8rh7uememm/update_googleplay_netflix_disney_hulu_primeVideo_spotify_smartYoutube-20200707.zip/file) on the bottom of the first post is somehow dead now...)
-----------
There's also a new (other?) patch published a bit earlier: Link (http://himedia.hu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=376)

The title says it's for the 2.1.4 FW, but it's unclear at the moment if this patch is identical with the patch mentioned above, or is it a completely different one... ???

So my questions regarding if anyone (including Futeko!) have tried or even heard/read from these before and if so, than what experiences does one have that worth to share here?

There's also a patch (update) downloadable here (https://www.mediafire.com/?58akd6hjzv5ga) to fix this. Install the same way, like the FW with the paperclip method.

And will there be a patch to fix that patch  >:( >:( >:( ?

Why, whats the problem with the patch?

Why, whats the problem with the patch?

No idea! But yesterday there was "no problem" with the "update"  >:(

And what is the problem with the "update"? The one there was regarding the lack of Google services, I've also mentioned in the first post (and that's what the "patch" meant to fix btw).

In my hypothesis, the same thing is happening as for the latest Huawei smartphones, where for reasons of restriction by the American government, the Playstore app can be replaced by other apps to install google services.

Correct  :-X !

So what happens to all of the other Chinese boxes? Will they all go the same way as Huawei/HiMedia ???

I assume so, I think it's a solution to get around the restrictions of the American government.
Eventually, if it is available, we will have to wait for the release (2.1.6?) For the European models.

Yesterday I installed this FW including patch and everything works very well on my Q5Pro. After settings I started installing my applications from GStore. When I installed Tidal because I was pleasantly surprised with the interface because I could control it normally with remote control, arrows etc. After restarting the box the interface returned to the classic view.
How can I return to the corresponding view in the application ?

I have long since retired my Q10 Pro so for something to do this morning I decided to try this out, Boots really fast compared to all previous FW, However after installing 2.1.6 with the patch for Google etc the box seems to very frequently Crash back to the Himedia Logo and reboot, This problem seems to be triggered even more by Installing/Uninstalling apps and frequent navigation.

I did clean install with Paperclip

I will try re installing later when I have more time

So install new 2.1.6 firmware using rename to update.zip and paperclip method, then do we rename this patch to update.zip and install how?

install how?
Patch can be install from menu or paper clip not need to be differences.
Note to do disconnect power and reconnect one time after box is running v2.1.6, some user report as need it.

I apologize if I am repetitive, but is it possible to install this new firmware without problems in the European box as an update to version 2.1.4?
It seems to me that I understood that it was only for Chinese boxes.
Thank you

OK, thank you for the tip.

Can I 'dirty flash' 2.1.6 over 2.1.4 through system menu rather than paperclip reset method, so I can preserve my settings and apps?

If you tried to install the firmware in this topic and you see 2.1.4 then yes, you did something wrong. Make sure the flash drive is formatted in Fat32 and you have a single file called update.zip, beware that windows might be hiding the extension and you might end up with a file called update.zip.zip

@snap,
If not working with USB flash formatted FAT32, can try with NTFS on HiMedia box with Android 7 working too, after successfully update version must be HMD-2.1.6...

After installing 2.1.6 with paperclip everything is there but NO GOOGLE PLAYSTORE !
How do i get the Google Playstore ?

Flash the patch file from this post - https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=4847.msg31256#msg31256

BTW, a dirty flash of this new 2.1.6 installed fine over 2.1.4, without having to reinstall apps, settings etc. Just make sure you also flash the patch file afterwards.

I formatted in fat 32 like I always do, but what I do not understand also is, after I d/l the file I rename to update.zip and then extract to the usb, or I extract the original file to usb and then rename the file to update.zip ? I dont think but to be sure ?

If you see .zip at the end of the file leave it. If you don't see it don't add it because windows might be hiding the extension

The update procedure is the same that is performed for official firmware, generally I have always used the paperclip method.
Method also recommended by Futeko, I think it's the clean system to upgrade.
Obviously the compressed file must be renamed "update.zip"

Actually it isn't, with the official firmware we had to extract the file instead of renaming.

The only difference is to rename the file, as is also the case for custom firmware.
The rest of the procedure doesn't change.

1. Extract update.zip (using an unzip program like 7zip, winzip etc) from HIMEDIA_Q10_PRO_DOWNGRADE_FROM_ANDROID_7_TO_ANDROID_5.1.zip to the root of a FAT32 formatted USB pen drive. (the USB pen drive should contain a single file called 'update.zip').

When I extract the file to an usb stick I receice an error, is this normal ?

My god what part of this is so difficult for all of you, DO NOT Extract THE FIRMWARE

Download the FW  update_Q10Pro_HMD-2.1.6 2020-07-13.172553.zip

Rename the file to update.zip, Copy update.zip to formatted USB Drive

HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro
How to perform firmware update 2.1.6

Once the firmware is downloaded from the from the PCristi server (https://www.mediafire.com/?58akd6hjzv5ga)
Patch Google by pcristi (thank you): update_googleplay_patch_try_fixed_for_OFW_v2.1.6 (https://www.mediafire.com/?esqel7w94eicmy0)

You need to rename it to "update.zip"

If the ".zip" extension does not appear, you must activate the display of file extensions.
Control Panel> File Explorer Options> View
uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

1. Only the “update.zip” file must be copied to a USB stick formatted in FAT 32, and must only contain this file.

2. If you are using Kodi, make a backup.

3. Remove the power plug for 20 sec and then reinsert it, and always recommended when doing these operations.

4. Insert the stick in any of the USB ports, disconnect any other devices connected to the other ports.

5. Press the reset button with the tip of a paper clip.

6. Holding down the reset button without releasing, turn on the HiMedia.

7. Only release the reset button when the Android logo starts, and the progress bar should also appear.

8.Wait for the system to reboot automatically when the update has finished.

9. If the old firmware still appears after the restart, repeat the operation 3 or 4 times for success.

p.s. The procedure for the official firmware of Futeko had to be decompressed, because inside it is contained the text file "readme.txt" together with the file "update.zip"

I'm just after the fight with OFW 2.16. I installed (paper clip method) twice. The first time there were problems with switching off after Google patch (update_googleplay_patch_try_fixed_for_OFW_v2.1.6.zip). The second time was fine. Q10 pro turns off the panel and remote control, Google login works and probably everything else.

Boot time to the Home screen, approximately 28 seconds. When the Kodi interface starts automatically, about 48 seconds. Faster than firmware 2.1.4.

Thanks. Updating an patching was no problem at all. Easy to do.
Everything runs in good order however the only problem that I have is that I have to set every subtitle again. On the previous firmware, when I selected a certain styling it was also on other subtitles (.srt files) but now I have to repeat this over and over or every single subtitle file. Any solutions?

... the only problem that I have is that I have to set every subtitle again. On the previous firmware, when I selected a certain styling it was also on other subtitles (.srt files) but now I have to repeat this over and over or every single subtitle file. Any solutions?

This depends on which video player you are using with Kodi.

For at least a year, I get subtitles "on" by default, even the built-in English ones, and have to use the menu key to switch them off every time I play a movie! There is no way of switching them off permanently and there is no way of saving individual subtitle settings  >:(.

Try highlighting a movie image on Kodi and then press the 'menu' key (three bars) on the remote. The drop-down menu should give you a "Play using ..." option. Select this and see exactly how many players you have on the system. Try using "video player" instead of "wrapper". This allows me to set subtitles to "off" by default. But, be warned, you may lose other functions!!! Perhaps the "playcorefactory.xml" file needs adjusting???

I'm past caring about HiMedia ... I've just ordered a new Zidoo Z1000 Pro ;D!

It´s like a new firmware. Change the name to update.zip.

If you use the "paperclip method" you will get a new copy of the firmware and the SD Card will be wiped out and you will lose EVERYTHING you have installed on it!

Kodi does have a backup app "Kodi Backup" which you can use to make a copy of most of your Kodi settings to th hard disk and later reinstall to the SD Card.

Instructions for using it are here:

Rename to update.zip, copy to a USB flash drive and install via settings menu (dirty flash) or with the reset button method, you won't lose data installing the patch that way.

Just upgraded. Tried system method first, didn't run smoothly so I used the paperclip method to do the updates: 2.1.6, Google Play etc.. and Magisk. I have 2 issues. First; How can I get rid of the bottom navigation bar? Secondly; There is no check mark or menu button showing in Titanium Backup :)  (unable to do batch restore or backup) Are there fixes for these 2 issues?   TIA.  John

Personally I carry out an alternative procedure, and the restoration of Kodi is almost instantaneous, the fastest of other backup method, I also use it for the version of Kodi on the PC.

@jcp2
Bottom navigation bar set size 0.0dpi on framework-res.apk
Titanium Backup need edit services.jar/Settings.apk

or wait for CFW/CFW-Lite v2.1.6.x maybe one of them will suit your needs.

Don'tg suggest methods like this for playback if you don't even know exactly what deficites it will cause in overall playback quality. KODI's "Video Player" was never really suggested on HiMedia Boxes against the far more decent HiMedias's own stock player. Strange how you pretend here to be a well experienced HiMedia Box user, and somehow still...Not? :??? I guess you would still need to be start and learn everything from the very basics regarding, but as I see it doesn't matter at all for you from now... Sorry and "Farewell"...

More important:
pcristi (and for everyone else here): What's the exact problem with the navigation bar? After it has been casted up, than it cannot be hidden afterwards?

Hello,
Navigation bar is more easy to popup on screen(pull up with mouse/air mouse) then to hide back(push down with mouse/air mouse).
Between long press with mouse cursor on square button(recent app) will activate split screen ;).

I consider the HiMedia Videoplayer the best player, for this I use the Wrapper to not give up the Kodi interface.
I could not verify the player of the new boxes such as the Dune and the Zidoo, but the HiMedia Video player for me is currently an excellent player.

I'm past caring about HiMedia ... I've just ordered a new Zidoo Z1000 Pro ;D!

I'm using the stock HiMedia videoplayer, not the Kodi player.
These subtitle features work and are standard as I set them via the previous firmware:
- Sub Switching
- Default switch
- Sub encode
- Time adjustment
- Font color

I have to continually adjust these settings:
- Font size
- Sub position
- Font effect
- Line spacing
- Character spacing

If I can somehow change these 5 values above to a certain default that would be great. Any way how I can set these so that I don't have to manually set it once I play any media. Thnx

Yes, that's exactly what I get. I just have to switch the subtitles off every time I watch a movie. I've tried everything so I don't think there is a solution.
But, as my HiMedia box will be consigned to the dustbin in a couple of weeks time (when a new Zidoo box arrives) I'm past caring  8)!

I still get no luck with 2.1.6. It flashes OK, Android ring etc, I get the Himedia logo when it boots, and it quickly finds the time on the front display, albeit 2 hours ahead of BST, so it looks like it has started up ok, just not dispaying through HDMI apart from 4 seconds of the boot Himedia logo. Should I try to hook up the TV using composite and reset video out options?
Added today:
Just realised my TV does not say 'No Signal' with the blank screen, HDMI, as it does if nothing is connected, so it must be getting a signal from the Q5, just that the TV won't display the picture? Any way to alter the output mode without seeing the picture?
Going back to 2.1.4 again!

I have noticed that in movies with an aspect ratio of 2.35: 1, the upper subtitles pop off the screen a bit and are on the upper black band.
This fact, although apparently insignificant, was not present in the previous firmware.
I noticed that in the Subtitle setting section the Sub Position value is set by default to "36", only by setting this value to "0" will the upper subtitles fit into the screen.

Sub Position default value (36)

Sub Position value "0"

To avoid setting this value on each movie is it possible with some update patch to bring it back to a default value of "0"?
I want to avoid doing a firmware downgrade.
I would like to ask who installed CFW 2.1.6 or version 2.1.7, if they could kindly check what default value the Sub Position value is set.
Sincerely thank you.

With firmware 2.1.6 it's 36. With firmware 2.1.7. it's still 36. Previously when you changed a value it accounted for all of the other files as well.

Post by: DMD on August 21, 2020, 11:15:07 PM
I restored the player of FW 2.1.4 and I found that the problem is not the default value "36" but the value of the pixel corresponding to that value.
In fact, as you can see from the photo the subtitles are in reference 15 of the reference pattern, like the "0" value of the player contained in FW 2.1.6,  they are in the correct position. (See also photos of the previous post)

So the default value "36" in FW 2.1.6 is set with a wrong pixel value.

I have to infinitely thank pcristi for creating the Videoplayer recovery patch from FW 2.1.4
https://www.mediafire.com/?pof48yjs3ppl695
Rename to update.zip and install from menu.
Will work in all FW from v2.1.4 2019-09 to v.2.1.7

If anyone wants to check also with the FW 2.1.7
I submit my test pattern.
