Wohoooooo!!! Great work guys!  Can't wait to give it a go on my Q5 pro! I'm on official 2.04 firmware. Can I just flash this on top of it using the standard usb method and restore button?

Newbie question, will the auto frame rate patch for himedia player, and the hi-frequency switcher for kodi still work with this custom firmware? Cheers!!

thank you!coming from mibox international, i do like this android TV firmware very much.
i was using this firmware with my himedia q10pro connected to my Toshiba lcd tv directly via HDMI for few days and experienced no hiccup with native himedia player.
however today i decided to  connect my player to my hometheater setup(HDMI to Onkyo receiver to sony projector) and noticed that himedia player failed to load my SMB movie and stuck at the circle loading symbol. this was preceded by the "- Google search popup when HDMI status change it (annoying problem)"

any suggestion to fix this issue?

Update: i need to 'close' frame rate adaptation option in play setting to be able to watch movie  using the player

It's the first time to try the custom firmware with Android TV on my Q10 Pro.
In general, it's really cool. Thanks very much for the effort! :)

I've just got a small problem while press "3D" button to switch to the traditional home page. The background image is gone. I have to set the background by myself at each reboot. Is it a way to keep the background image setting permanently?

Also, I had another problem on all the Android 7.0 firmware versions. I always fail to connect to my NAS folder through Samba (Thesus NAS, no password for smb access).  It's kinda inconvenient although I can use nfs instead as a work-around. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I would love to try the Android TV Custom firmware.  Is this installed by sd card or do I have to use the USB Burning Tool?  I have the q5 pro, using 2.0.6 custom firmware.

From my point of view useless on our device.
I tested way back a beta version and quickly saw I loose more than I win.
Only usecase would have been Access to Netflix/Amazon but that is still not the case because no license to security features needed.  :(

The one or other user may like the androidTV for the different way of operating.
I like it too in the one or other app, but mostly operating gets worse.

hi, everybody!

i am from malaysia and have been reading this forum for a year now.
i have been using himedia boxes for >6years now; first one being q5ii non-emmc, latest one being q10pro for just about a year.
thanks for all the great tips, firmwares as well as cautionary notes.

overall, i am happy about himedia boxes and that's why i stick with them over the years.
i do a lot of playback with bdmv, hd audio on my home theater.
kodi, i used to like it a lot in the early days but now, just using it for quasar online streams where i can get dd/dd+ audio which is good.
i do not care about the library or nice thumbnail displays, just like to go straight to play the video with the native player.

i decided to register here today and make this maiden post becos i felt that firmware 2.0.8 is worth a mention - it is good!
i know most people here do not care about the 2.0.8 changelog but himedia has done something marvelous for users in southeast asia.
and i like to acknowledge that.
for years, they did not do it but a major competitor did, but finally it came through:

2.Optimization of APP compatibility?Myk+?

that was it. with this improvement, i am able to use a very popular app, an online app version of a local iptv provider.
Myk+ is for Vietnam which is great for them now, but it works also for Astrogo in Malaysia - that's what i wanted.
I suspect it also works for similar iptv providers in Thailand and Singapore but pls correct me if i am mistaken.
so, sometimes, it is impt to consider how himedia or any manufacturer for that matter, need to spend their resources on needs arising from different users in different parts of the world.

in summary, kudos to himedia for taking care of users in my part of the world!
and thank you futeko..com for the good work so far that i have benefited greatly from.

cheers.
this is some of the important improvements for me.
i started to accept Google Assistant  popup issue as an exchange for a beautifull lay out. hope the issue can be resolve in the future:)

Hi, Pcristi

I've installed this 2.08 and also the newest 2.08 uploaded, but I played "Black Mirror" TV Series from my Synology NAS, and it is choppy.. like the connection is slow..
I played the same video file with 2.06 previously and they played smooth..

Anything that I miss / did wrong ?

Thanks

Plex have to filter keyevent only for what they apps know and not to popup controls for any unknown/undefined keyevent.

Hi @pcristi, I can't get this version to flash, I rename to update.zip and start the flashing process, it starts ok but then after about a min I get a picture of an Android icon lying down broken and the process stops. It then loads the previous software version when the unit restarts.

I've tried downloading the file a couple of times and trying again but still no luck.

Will flash and test tonight.

Flashed and running fine, only issue I have is the "TV MODE" button on the remote (to the left of the number zero key) no longer changes the resolution. I used to use this button a fair bit as often shows would default to 1080p so I used this button to switch to 4K as I have a 4K TV. Now when I click the button nothing happens  :(

Hello

Thanks @pcristi for your work.

With ATV 2.9.1 and AFR 1.3.9.1 , 3D movies play at the good framerate and at the good resolution.
But when i change to 2D mode ,  framerate became 60 h .

What do i do to correct this default ???

Al

PS: for french users , with ATV 2.9.1 , Molotov TV 1.6.7 works very well . Thanks again pcristi

Thanks for your good work!

I have replace the key.xml, but still not work.
But I found that, CN OFW & EU OFW use a same key.xml

And in fact,  MENU & HOME  are responded, but in main screen and some apps like youtube, MENU doesn't work.
If long press HOME,  the Tv box will clear memory, but short press HOME is useless.

I wonder are you same with me?

PCRISTI,

This is amazing, thanks a lot!

Just one note, after I did the full install using the USB/reset method, my KODI 18.2 was quite unstable, kept crashing randomly. I had to fully remove it and then reinstall through Google Play store.  After that it worked great, I also have Netflix and Amazon Prime Video installed.

Hopefully, Himedia will fix the Chinese lyric problem on the music media player at one point...

I encourage everyone who uses it to buy you a coffee, you deserve it!

My box did not turn off after installing Aptoide TV. After reinstalling CFW (paper clip method) I haven't installed Aptoide TV and it turns off it's ok.

Thanks stl, now everything is ok, unfortunately another problem and that the q10 is not turned off, every time I turn it off it stops and I have to turn off the power.  Do you have a solution?  thank you very much.

Same thing started to happen to me a few weeks ago, I think reinstalling the firmware fixes it but I haven't tried it yet.

Sorry if I answer only now.  Unfortunately I have already tried to reinstall the firmware again, but nothing, the problem remains, I do not want to know to turn off and I have to turn off the power.  Can you try and see if something changes?  although I wouldn't understand why it should work again and I don't.

If you have VPN, make sure that the location service, especially for "Fused Location" is not acivated on your Q10 Pro settings. Having a VPN service while Fused Location is on causes Q10 Pro not to turn off completely.

Don't play with fire trying to install OFW for Chinese box on your Q10Pro international version.
CFW base on Chinese version are special repacked/adapted for install safety on international box.
Don't cross firmware install between Q30 and Q10/Q5Pro.

I bought my HiMedia Q10 Pro in the Netherlands over 3 years ago, but on the rear side of the box it metioned that it is made in China..........? ? ?

All HiMedia hardware is made in China, the same as virtually all electronics from the past 20 years.

If you bought the box in The Netherlands then it's 99% sure to be the European/International version and the firmware above (and all other firmware on this forum) can be installed. See here for differences between European/International and Chinese Q10 Pro: https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1175.msg9321#msg9321

unofficial_ATV --> is mean unofficial Android TV because is not Certificate Android TV and HiMedia does not release a Android TV firmware for Q Series.
In case of v2.15.x is also use CN HMD-2.1.5 for Q Series as base witch is adapted to be safety install on international version.
Keep in mind install a firmware in any device is not free of the risk.
Caution
- Do not turn off the box while updating the firmware. It may cause box malfunction a.k.a soft brick.
- It takes approximately 15 minutes to update since this firmware has large file size.
Use on your own risk.

Thanks to all forum members for your response and suggestions. I have installed update_Q10Pro (unofficial_ATV[v2.15.0])-HMD-2.1.5 2019-12-10.113757) and it works. First when connected a USB tumbdrive I've got no sound, and when connected an external 1 TB drive it refused to play videos from different formats. I have no idea what I did with the settings, like I've set the wrapper to Kodi, and disabled the HDCP 2.2, and later on enabled it again, and in the menu picture settings 2160p/30fps. Actually the menu is so extensive , that it takes some time to figure out the best settings. However everything works fine now. Thanks again everyone.

DON'T try install original Chinese firmware on your international box.
update_Q10Pro (unofficial_ATV[v2.15.0])-HMD-2.1.5 2019-12-10.113757) is adapted to be installed safe on international box.
From unofficial_ATV 2.14.x to unofficial_ATV v2.15.x do direct install, probably dirty is OK too.

Try:
A. Install OFW 2.1.1 with paper clip, after OFW boot complete disconnect power supply, reconnect supply then check if power off/on from IR remote is solved.
B. Install OFW 2.0.3 with paper clip, after OFW boot complete disconnect power supply, reconnect supply then check if power off/on from IR remote is solved.

After IR remote look to be solved install with paper clip any FW you like.

Hi my friends. This Android TV Custom Firmware is amazing.
But i think It's could be better if have the "TVheadend" .
So i found a STB with the same chipset and same software ATV and it have a TVheadend.
Maybe the @pcristi can copy this compiles files and build the ATV to Q10pro.
If possible the link to this firmware is ftp://enjoy.myftp.org/pixel-premium-0215.zip

Nor rely same SoC as Q10/Q5Pro Hi3798CV200 and your shared firmware is Hi3798MV200 like on HiMedia Q30.
Sorry I will not do port of TVheadend from Badasystem to HiMedia box. If you like they work please support them and buy one of box Dinobot U5mini, Ferguson Ariva ATV Combo/TT, or Dinobot 4K Plus, Q8 Xsarius, ATTO Pixel Premium, Ferguson FBOX ATV etc.
Thanks for understanding.

I've reinstalled the same firmware with the reset button method and reinstalled all the apps I had before. The box is shutting down properly for some days now.
How can I make an "image" of the internal storage so I can just reinstall if needed in the future? Basically, I can I create a custom firmware?
Thanks

The no shutdown problem is very strange. I had the issue before with both official and custom firmware. I think it may start to happen if we press the home button in the remote while playing a video and then shutting down the box. Maybe the OS can't kill the video player process.
Version 2.15.2 is working fine in my Q10 Pro until now but I always stop the video player before shutting down.

This is my first time using the custom ATV firmware after a couple of years of using the standard CFW from pcristi. I'm so far very pleased with the firmware after using it for a bit. I have one question...is there any way to change the default home screen apps the way we can with the custom standard firmware? I've tried using the menu button and there is no option to change apps on the home screen. Forgive me if I'm missing something here. Thanks for any help.

As far as I know we cant hide them from the home screen(unless the app is uninstalled) but we can rearrange them: select the app and long press the OK button on the remote.
You can also create home screen shortcuts for non Android TV apps with the app Tv App Repo:

Hi there,
i'm new to this forum and did not find an answer, yet:

I'm using this ATV 2.15.2 firmware on my Q30 and try to connect my phone as a remote
by using "Android TV"-remote app.
(Version 1.1.0.3876957)
The app shows the Q30 as "Living Room 1_8777", but when i klick on it to connect to that "TV"
nothing happens. It just tries for 1 second to connect and goes back to the selection screen.
Is there any way to fix that?

btw: The Kore app for Kodi works.

Please check if yous Q30 run Android Remote Service v2.1.02.4477839 (https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-tv-remote-service-android-tv/android-tv-remote-service-android-tv-2-1-02-4477839-release/android-tv-remote-service-android-tv-2-1-02-4477839-android-apk-download/) as default installed from CFW, this version can be updated from Google Play to v3.3.30266681.

Sorry for the delay...
just checked:

My version is 2.2.04e.5151322 .
That is the version from the CFW (update_Q30_(unofficial_ATV[v2.15.2])-HMD-2.1.5 2019-12-11.163956.zip)
--> AtvRemoteService.apk

PS: tip with v2.1.02.4477839 was great.
As downgrading doesn't work, i replaced the apk in root with version v2.1.02.4477839 from v2.15.0 pack!
Now it works! ;)

I'm streaming IPTV using this build and it works very well with KODI 18.6, Tivimate and GSE. The only issue I have is that AC3 5.1 IPTV streams are only playing in stereo 2.0. Is this a result of the hardware that will only play surround sound 5.1 through the Himedia player? If so is there a Kodi build or other software I can use that will allow 5.1 IPTV streams to work on this box? Looks like shitty builds are gone. Thanks for any assistance.

Thanks pcristi. I tested the firetv version and it didn't correct the issue. I reimaged the box and downloaded the last version of shitty Kodi in March from your link above and did an upgrade on the installed version in your firmware image. Everything works perfect now with IPTV streams. Thanks very much.

I installed the Q5 Pro version and it works awesome!!! No complaints BUT to get it to work you have to do the following below exactly or at least in my case I did it this way.

1. Download latest version for your box from here.. http://www.mediafire.com/file/t2d1heh5a5om0rq/update_Q10Pro_%2528unofficial_ATV%255Bv2.15.3%255D%2529-HMD-2.1.5_2019-12-10.113757.zip/file

2. Format USB stick FAT32... NOTE: Not all USB's work as I found out so I had to try 3 different ones until I found one it liked. Seems like 8GB or bigger sticks work well for me...all my 4GB sticks failed despite formatting dozens of times

3. Copy the file to the stick and rename the file to update.zip ...VERY VERY important or it won't work. Double check the filename after you change to make sure it's correct using windows properties

4. Plug USB into available USB port on your device

5. Use paperclip to hold in the reset button and while holding the reset button plug the power into your device and don't let go of the reset button for 5 seconds

6. Sit back and wait about 15 minutes for the whole process to complete

Good Luck

For the first time I am commenting on this forum, I would like to use this opportunity to say a big thank
to Pcristi for His amazing work,I have been using update_Q5Pro_ (unofficial_ATV [v2.15.3]) - HMD-2.1.5 2019-12-09.171045 for a while now and It's  working Great with Q5 pro better than the latest OFW 2.1.6 and other Custom firmware .
I have tried all the latest OFW and CFW including updated_Q5Pro_(unofficial_ATV[v2.16.2])-HMD-2.1.6 2020-07-13.142334,
with version unofficial_ATV [v2.15.3])  Streaming Video Quality  from  Google Play Movies & Tv (getting Audio 5.1 DD and DD+)  and  Amazon Prime ( works Only Movie trailers ) is awesome  crisp and sharp
also DTS passthrough working with any version of  KODI .
Today I update  the latest _Q5Pro_(unofficial_ATV[v2.16.2] with this firmaware Amazon prime Video working fine but Google Play Movies & Tv Picture Quality
isn't as good as (unofficial_ATV [v2.15.3]) and Audio not getting 5.1 DD or DD+ only getting PCM, is there anyone noticed the differences ?

First of all, congratulations and thank you for your work!

I have the CFW 2.1. installed but some questions ...

Netflix / Youtube runs on the box, but not in Kodi, there comes an API key error message.
The Netflix add-on is installed.

I also noticed that HappyCast is only in Chinese.

Pandora obviously doesn't work in Germany.

And then a camera app is installed, what for?

That shouldn't be a criticism!

Kodi YouTube addon setup personal api
https://babahumor.com/youtube-on-kodi-setup-personal-api
android-mediaplayer.de have a German version of how to setup personal api.

Kodi Netflix addon
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=329767
https://github.com/CastagnaIT/plugin.video.netflix/wiki/Login-with-Authentication-key

HappyCast --> this version form OFW.

Pandora is only US regions, but CFW/ATV is not build only for you.

Camera app, connect Android compatible once then will see for what can be use it.

Congratulations for your great job. This firmware gives new life to q10 player.

I have 1 issue however.
I have problem with HBO Go app. No matter I'll try (deinstall, clearing cache, downgrade) cannot play any video (error 5.1 or 5.2 - depends of HBO app version) - checking some forums it looks, that it's related to nvidia shield on which that firmware is based.

I have a question too. Does someone know how to disable DLNA server (removing service or whatever). Just don't need it and don't want to see that TV Box@50(HIMEDIA)

Thanks!

Welcome.

HBO GO required DRM Playready support that are not implemented on HiMedia box with Android 7 FW.

For DLNA server try
Code: [Select]
adb connect <ip_player:5555>
adb root
adb connect <ip_player:5555>
adb remount
adb shell mv /system/app/HiDMR/HiDMR.apk /system/app/HiDMR/HiDMR.ap_
adb reboot

Thanks pcristi

I found that actually not HiDMR but HiDMS.apk did the trick
after rename of HiDMR renderer still show up in the network (by the way path to apk is /system/app/)

I've got the same situation when I play a daily video from a Dutch website with Google or Google Chrome!
Sometimes it plays 5, 10 or 15 minutes the HiMedia Q10 Pro stops and restart. there is no way to play the video again without restarting again. I just play the video content on my PC, tablet or smartphone without any issues. Everything else still works fine with the player and I'm very happy with it.

The power supply unit could be faulty, try another one. Any 12V PSU rated for at least 2A with tip size 5.5 x 2.1 with center pin positive will work.

I am using v2.15.3(final) and my Q10Pro shuts down after 5 minutes, I have set screen saver to come on after 5 minutes but it never gets there. It might be something to do with power save but I cant find any setting. When using Kodi or other apps its stays on but if I am copying files to the box and not touching anything else it will go off after 5 minutes before file copy has completed. Can anybody help.

I’ve started having an issue while watching movies in the video player or even if the system is on the main screen with all the icons, I get a quick white band that goes around the frame of the TV and quickly disappears. Almost like something is refreshing the screen and I get a quick white band in all four corners and it’s gone again. This also happens when I power up the Q5 pro and the main screen appears..I get 3 or 4 times this white band displays and gone again. Anyone else experienced this or maybe an idea of how to stop this from happening?

Is there anyone who has this white band scanning effect? ? ? Very curious how to disable it.

(21-04-2021) IT SEEMS THAT NO ONE HAS THIS ISSUE WITH THE Q10 PRO? ? ?

I'm certain most people do including those with the Q5 Pro like me. It's very frustrating to see that white band appear out of nowhere and then disappear. There's no rhyme or reason for this and I can't figure out when this started as I had it with 2.15 and now with 2.17. Anyway Dutchie53 if I find something I'll post here but nothing I've tried seems to work....perhaps pcristi can shed some light?

Thank you Atkinson, It happens frequently and indeed very annoying while watching any content. I'm thinking about a total reinstall but actually I'm just happy the way it is now despite the annoyance. Maybe we have to create a new topic about this matter?

Dear all,
I received a mail from Pcristi about the white band scanning effect.

Hello,
I don't understand, please share photo/video via onedrive/google drive/etc.
Thanks.

- Thank you very much for your response. It's a white square band which appears around the screen very fast for 1 second, and it appears randomly sometimes or often. It's quite annoying while watching content. I've tried to make a photo or video footage from it, but it is impossible to capture it. I do not have "One drive or Google drive"? Maybe "Atkinson" could sent you some footage. He's the one who started this tread.

Look like voice search are activated by HDMI input status change.
On Google play(market) set updates to manual then uninstall update for Google app for Android TV(com.google.android.katniss)/voice search then see if dispersing.

Pcristi, I do apologize, it was indeed unknowingly. It will take some time to get to the suggestions you've made in your comment. I will give it a try, although I'm not confident in how to access the suggestions you've made in the settings from my HiMedia Q10 Pro? ? ?

Well, I have made the changes according Pcristi's suggestions, and by watching various content yesterday evening it occurred less than before the changes. However it is still there. I'm curious how to get rid of it completely. Has the white scanning effect around the screen disappeared for you Atkinson?

Hi Dutchie. Yes the scanning band has disappeared for me completely. I've watched 3 movies and been using tivimate for IPTV and haven't noticed the white scanning band anymore. It used to be quite bad when powering up the Q5 Pro as the scanning effect would happen 4-5 times upon every reboot of the box as well. All I did was uninstall the latest update for the google app in the pcrisiti image and set everything to manual so I control all updates.

Today I checked "Google Playstore app" at the Q10 Pro and the automatic updates were ON again so I did follow Pcristi's instructions again and will see tonight if it works. Yesterday, just 3 times the white scanning effect while watching a movie. It gets better! Thank you very much Pcristi for your valuable suggestions, and Atkinson for the update.

Hello Pcristi. I wonder if I can flash the new S500 ATV rom into Q30 since they have the same Hi3798mv200 processor and almost the same specs. If not, can s500 ATV rom be ported to Q30?

Hello nic9boy
"new S500 ATV rom"?
update_ota_20200103.045543 is more then one year half old from when HiMedia release and VN dealer share on the site.
S500 ATV use Android 9 secure firmware with fully different partition structure which so not fit on Q30 without repartitions and take a risk one permanent hard brick. Because of Android Verified Boot will portably not boot on Q30 event reparation will be succefuly done.

Port S500 ATV on Q30 don't now, I'm a one to try as I don't see the benefit.
Let's suppose someone will get a way to successfully boot and basic working, then will need to deal with already know not working HiMediaVideoPlayer and to check if BT/WiFi can get working or passthrough/display AFR can be fixed and many more because of security restriction of Android 9.
Not the last how to downgrade to Android 7.

Enjoy HiMedia player.

Thanks for clearing my mind Pcristi!
I've used your lasted ATV rom on Q30 for awhile and it gives me the greatest experience ever using the device.
Thank you very much for your contributions to the himedia users' experience!
