Hi lads!
Planning to buy the q10pro...just gonna have a few questions.
How is it compared to http://zappiti.com/zappiti_player_4k_duo.html (http://zappiti.com/zappiti_player_4k_duo.html)?
Would like to use with a wd red 8tb don't know if that is compatible or not?
Most of my movies are 720p encodes think this device can easily handle them?
of course top movies and documentaries are in full hd and top quality enecodes...
I also would like to use it to stream live TV in kodi,iptv etc... Hope it is capable too?
Does it play external and internal subtitles muxed in to the mkv container?
I don't have any sound system or anything like that...but some of my movies have dts 2.0-5.1-7.1, flac or ac3
audio stream.Will I be able to play them with no issue? Just gonna use an hdmi cable and connect it to tv.
Does the remote have an easy way to switch between audio streams and subtitles while watching an mkv?

As a 4K or HD movie player it is excellent with superb colourful images on my Sony LCD. Easy to change audio streams,not sure about subtitles, although on the films I have played with subs no problems encountered. The main problem area for me with the Q10Pro is music playback as I don't seem to be able to play back SACD ISOs or DSFs natively, all are resampled to 48Khz. Operation is typical android player although menus are quick to open and remote is better than many similar players. Buy it if you want it for movies,music think again.

If you not picky to have 60p onyour 4K video then it is (i think, In paper) a great player.
Bit big for my needs for that I went to q10 Pro...

Short answer: no.
Long answer:
With the current firmware Q10Pro has the most problem with the standard HD/FHD contents as the 2 major bugs are:
- Problem with playback of 23.976 material: firmware can't play 23.976FPS, it converts it to 24FPS resulting microstutterings/freezeings in every 40 something seconds (Q10Pro is skipping frames caused by it's 24<>23.976 rounding "solution")
- Auto-switch belove 1920x1080 to 23,976hz is not working means if you have 720p or cropped 1080p material the device can't detect what framerate is the video using, so it can't switch between 23.976, 24, 29,97 automatically (3 most commonly used FPS).
I assume your movies are bluray rips therefor you have mainly 23.976 material (all movies from the states using this), maybe some european, latin american, and eastern movies which uses 24/29,97. All 23.976 (720p/1080p/4K) has the microshuttering error, and you use mainly 720p witch result the auto-switching problem if you have mixed origin of movies (not just "holywoodian").
So I would wait a little bit more till the company release a firmware which at least fix the microshuttering problem, but right now it does not look like they are working too hard on fixing on any major problem at all. Maybe they are just overloaded with other (logistic?) problems and don't have the necessary resources (manpower/money?) to work on the firmware but anyway: Q10Pro has a great potential to become an excellent player if they fix the initial problems with the firmware but right now the nvidia shield is a more viable solution in the same price range.

HiMedia and HiSilicon (chipset manufacturer) are working on the bugs. HiSilicon are a division of Huawei, a $60 billion dollar company. The HiMedia products are very popular in China, with the Chinese customers demanding the same bug fixes as us (see HiMedia's Chinese forum..). HiSilicon / HiMedia have the resources and the motivation to fix the bugs.

Yes futeko, but how long will that last?!!
One month, two, three or even six or more months?
My Q10 Pro meanwhile since 4 weeks is packed and I am using my old Q5 4K... for me before that happened, it was absolute unthinkable!
Is that the sense, I should use a new ca. 190 Euro Mediaplayer?
To use it in the cupboard?
Is it customer friendly, to let the customers wait several months until a player works, like it should?
The weeks and months are passing by, and nothing according to the main bugs is happening.
Meanwhile I am very disappointed!!
It is not my intension to use the Q10 Pro as a 60Hz player. Really not, futeko! :-\
What Himedia does with their advertising is:
Hey guys, our player can play 23.976 HD and UHD in 24Hz!
But it cannot play everything 23.976 below HD in 24Hz! THIS they did not say, and even more hair-raising, they did not test minimum requirements.
Equivalent Car-Story:
This would be the same, as if they would say: Our new car can run even 200 and 300km/h.
But we do not know, that a car too should drive from 0-200km/h, for getting started driving a car.
Uuuups, we forgot, that a car should be able to drive all speeds, not only the fastest, but this is not very important, and our customers sure can wait months and months, until they will be able to use our car in all conditions.
And is this our first car, so that eventually these mistakes are normal?
No, for sure this is NOT our first car, but we again and again produce the same mistakes, like we did, as we built our first car, many years ago.

Re. 23.976, we are very clear about what Pro does and does not do (it plays 1080p + 4K @ 23.976fps, but not below 1080p).
I wish everything worked perfectly from launch, but unfortunately that's not the way it tends to be in the world of home electronics. Nvidia Shield, iPhone, whatever, they have all launched with a few bugs..
I'm not saying that's a good thing, but it is fact.
HiMedia are vastly better than other Chinese brands at fixing bugs. They have a proven track record of doing so and have deep resources. They are aware of the bugs and will fix them.
As it stands Q10 Pro is already a great media box. I recommend you get the Pro out of the cupboard and give it another go.

Then I don't know why does it take them 2 months to release a new stable firmware which fixes almost nothing hence there are a lot of major flaws in the initial rls which they are know about almost from day 1 because the ton of free and pretty good beta testers they have around the world.

However I really have a lot of hope in this device I love it's hw specification and I check all the forums for new information to see when they release a new viable firmware. As soon as they does it I order my device as well. Still I can't say to anyone that this is a must-buy till I don't see that they have a reliable software developer team behind it and there are much better solutions in the market in the same category (especially if they want to use it for plain HD movies). But I'm recommending to everyone to have some patience and wait a few weeks more or a month to see if this product getting any better or not before they decide.

That is so true, at the end of the 3 weeks using the Q10 Pro I thought that this micro stuttering already would be normal.
But at least I realized, that micro stuttering is anything else, but normal, at the moment I took out my Q5 4K.
There is much work to do for Himedia, and I am scared, that the solution for the Autoframerate Switching over all resolutions still is really far, far away from us. :-[

Anyhow, I am very disappointed now... After a long search I tought finally found a
media player what plays everything well!, but looks like it's just another well advertised
android box with very poor updates. I mean it's 2016 and a brand new up to date device
not able to play well 720P movies.
Very unlucky my collection from 720p is about 2500 movies all blue-ray ripps with 2 audio
and two sub...
My tv is quite old it's a Samsung Le40b750, think I bought it about 6-7 years ago, but the way
how plays all my movies(720p or 1080p) butter smooth...Not even a microstutter or freeze
Unfortunately it lacks dts, flac sound and also can't switch between audio streams and subs.
Don't really know what to do now will I buy this faulty box or not?
Are they going to fix it with a firmware update? I mean in this Century?
Or can you guys come up with another solution? Is there any other
android box similar to this box and can handle an 8tb wd red?

Me too, over 2000 movies and at the moment I am not able to play 99% of my trivial 23.976 720p and cropped 1080p movies in 24p.
But however, the Pro for sure is a great player, but you still have to wait many months until you can use it in the way you want.
I do not know, whether I would buy it again... ???

Q5/Q10 Pro are the best Android media boxes available. The other options people might throw up (Shield / RPi) also have their limitations.
You say that 'it's 2016', well you're right. And 720p is a little 2006 maybe? Auto frame rate switching for resolutions below 720p will be added in future. As it is, 1080p and 4K work and these boxes are high-end devices aimed at high-end users with primarily Full-HD and Ultra-HD material. 720p content plays quite well as it stands at 50/60Hz. Not perfect, but OK for the time being until HiMedia get 23.976 at resolutions below 1080p working.
Firmware updates will be regular. HiMedia products have all been well supported in the past.
Internal / external subtitles support is good.
By 'streaming live tv', I presume you mean Kodi add-ons? Basically all of these work.
If you mean stuff like Amazon TV, Netflix then suport is limited by the app creators. Amazon don't want universal access, they want you to buy their Fire TV product. The same with Netflix HD. Not much HiMedia can do about it. If you use a lot of Netflix / Amazon then I recommend buying FireTV / Roku etc, which are very cheap and subsidised by your monthly subscription.
8TB WD Red should work fine in Q10 Pro.
Not totally sure what you mean by 'audio streams can be played without any audio equipment'. Audio can be bitstreamed via HDMI. 7.1 DTS-HD MA, TrueHD, ATMOS, DTS:X, 192Khz Flac. Pretty much anything.

Yes, it will play all those formats on a TV connected by HDMI (in stereo I presume?).
A lot of people buying Q5/Q10 Pro have AV amps for surround sound, but it's not necessary to use the product. Q5/Q10 Pro will downmix everything to stereo if required.

I appreciate the answers (by Admin), and I will reconsider to buy the Box. It will however help me if Himedia could indicate when they have solved this 720p 23.976 support. You mentioned that there is not much content in this old coded format, but many people (including myself) have 100's of these files... and it is not easy to get this all in 1080p (or at least costly)

Not the TV but the player should support 720p 23.976 -> all the TVs out there are capable playing 720p 23.976 content if the player itself supports it.
Furthermore the MOST 720p bluray rips out there is 720p 23.976 since MOST western (like USA and all from holywood) bluray is in 23.976. This means all 720p bluray rips are in 23.976.

I have to agree with futeko...
As I said my TV (Samsung LE40B750) plays all my 720p 23.976 Blu-ray rips perfectly the reason is the built in media player
upscales everything to 1080 24p.
So probably the TV doesn't support 720p 23.976 and it doesn't have to, if the media player upscales the movie to 1080p it's even better
So this is what himedia has to fix within the next firmware, anything less then 1080p (even such a small resolution bdrip like 720x384) upscales to 1080p24 or, if the tv supports
4k then then everything bellow 2160p has to be upscaled to 2160p24
Another problem new owners reported and I could read in different topics, there is Microstuttering in every resolution 720p,1080p,2160p at 23.976
Once these are fixed Iam ready to buy one.

Hi All,
I was also planning to purchase a Q10 today, I am lured in by the chipset, GPU and 7.1 features but mainly because I'm just a 40 year old child who loves gadgets and its payday ;D
I have a projector room nothing special just Optoma hd26 projector , sony STR dn1050 avr and a load of BW speakers all coupled to xbox1, ps4 and my trusty Minix x8h but I want to swap out the minix as I feel like a change and it can go in another room. Give it to me straight, is this box any good ? :D My Minix is running finless rom is very stable and I appreciate that newer boxes like the Q10 will have teething troubles but does it do the basics? Like most of you probably also need. To me these boxes have to be flexible and stable, Netflix for the kids, showbox, kodi etc. Does it perform well with these functions?
Also is anyone using one with an Optoma HD projector that can let me know if its a good match?
I have read such mixed reviews for the q10, I cant make my mind up. I don't mind buying it though even if it can be an annoying twat sometimes, if the support is good and you know its all going to get fixed over time .
Sorry for all the questions its just I have had my fingers burned twice with Tronsmart stuff, the Draco being the worse. Great hardware let down by glitchy unusable software and four to six month interval software updates that never seem to address the burning issues.

Obviously I'm biased(!) but it's an excellent product with a couple of niggles which will be soon ironed out. Uniquely amongst Chinese brand media boxes, HiMedia work closely with the chipset manufacturer HiSilicon (both part of Huawei) so stuff will actually get fixed.
Completely unlike Tronsmart etc who just buy chipsets off the shelf and quickly dump products with no ongoing support.

Hi all,
Finally, I decided to go ahead and purchase this device as the auto frame rate switching is fixed now. First of all I can say it's very impressive I really like the quality of this device. I already set up with an 8tb harddrive loaded around 2000+ 720p movies. The only thing I'm not happy with is the remote control, feels very cheap every time I press it sounds like it's gonna broke and really missing a microphone from it, a voice search would make life easier...
Few bugs:
- it has the latest firmware on it... I tried to uninsall the Skype and Facebook with success, but next day when I switch on the player both of the application are installed again I can't remove them. Very strange.(Skype would be nice if the remote has a microphone)
- I set up the latest Kodi, but have problem with it, it doesn't really want to exit with the exit button, but sometime when it does it slows down the launcher I found out that, when existing from Kodi it changes the resolution to 2160p when I switch back to 1080p the launcher speed is being back to normal (my TV is 1080p)
- another thing some of my movies (mkv) has like 3-4 audio track and 3-4 subtitle as well, but when I switching between them there are no track names, but I named all the tracks when I muxed them(like commentary with Ridley Scott) it tells correctly what languages they are but there are no track names. I miss them.
- I like the way in Kodi with the frame rate patch, when I watch a movie with frame rate 23,976 it switches to the right frame rate and stays everything on that and until I start a movie with a different frame rate and so on. But in the himedia player anytime I stop the video I mean exiting the player it switches back immediately to 1080p@60 would be nice the way like in Kodi, hope you know what I mean. However I prefer himedia player.
I didn't try every possibilities of the device, so far.
Other than these things, It's a great Player. And no microstutters, finally.

The most disappointing FW thus far for me is 1.07 which in fact solved many things (also many undocumented fixes) but broke many very essential playback aspects at the same time. My very old Xtreamer Prodigy in fact still does a better job than Q10 Pro for pure playing my movie collection on a 1080P TV. In literally all other aspects Q10 Pro is already far better no doubt about it but that was not the main reason to buy it.
The fact that is already the best player around for new UHD 4K HDR material is very nice technically seen and makes it future proof but almost all movies available today are either originally in DVD or BD / 3D-BD format. There is some demo material around in true UHD. Existing material is often converted to AVI or MKV. All mentioned formats will stay around for decades and should play flawless.
My review gives a good and honest total overview i think. It answers most of the original questions raised by the topic owner too.

Reading this it gives the same picture. It is already an overall great player with many goodies and high potential but the real red is in the actual Media Player core functionalities. It is taking a lot of time to get these fixed.
