Hello futeko or anyone who can answer this question. if I just wanted to use the q5/q10 pro to watch movies from my seagate 2 TB external portable hard drive what would be the advantage of using the wrapper/kodi? Wouldn't the internal player read the files from my external portable hard drive? Can someone give me the pros and cons of using kodi/wrapper verses the internal player. Also how would the files show using the internal player. Thanks for your help

The `wrapper` is simply a small script that runs and directs the file to be played to the Himedia player and not the one in Kodi.
The only reason for needing this is to play movies encoded with stuff like Dolby Atmos or TrueHD in order to achieve the full audio effect . If none of your collection is coded this way, or, if you do not have a full 7.1 surround sound system you can just use the Kodi player.

Kodi is like a jukebox app. Basically it is just an app to allow you to browse your media nicely.. You could easily just browse your media with a file browser and just select a movie, etc via file and play in the himedia player.
What kodi will do though is allow you to browse your media with extra information like movie posters and information etc.
Kodi does have its only media player but at the moment it will not handle things like 4k 10bit movies or the new audio standards that are coming along. The himedia player will play these files.
If you are playing media which is not 4k 10bit or atoms etc then you can just use kodi to play these and don't need the wrapper. If however you are playing a movie which has atoms or is 4k 10bit etc then you will need to install the wrapper to redirect the playback of the media to the himedia player rather than kodis internal player.
