The new firmware is official. We just haven't repackaged it yet.
You are safe to install from http://www.himediatech.com/support.htm.

While you will be repacking it
Can you create as well one wit root
you just need to add
su binary to /system/xbin/su
and Superuser.apk to /system/app/Superuser.apk
additionally following two lines to upgrade script
set_perm(0, 0, 06755, "/system/xbin/su");
set_perm(0, 0, 0644, "/system/app/Superuser.apk");

first BUG:
i use the Rii Mini i8+ with german (QWERTZ) layout and it worx perfect. after installation of 1.1.1 is the german layout is gone.
i configure it as "german" in himedia menu, but its always the english qwerty layout.

its not possible anymore to choose which player i want... only the kodiplayer worx.

In fact if you check the alibaba link you mentioned, the specs still shows Kodi 15.2 (Himedia custom Kodi 15.2 (firmware 1.0.9) pre-installed with native 7.1 HD-Audio, 3D, and 4K H.265 support), not Kodi 16 or 17.
If you can share the adjustments you made in Kodi to avoid stuttering?

yes its different, description is KODI 16:
"Himedia H8 OTA Update Online OTT TV Box 4k Kodi 16.0 Rockchip Octa Core Google Android TV Box"
specs is 15.2. i wrote to himedia over alibaba and the answer is:
"yes H8 only can kodi 15.2 now. cant use kodi 16.0 now."
no stuttering, all my movies and series are .mkv

- playback - 1080p24hz OFF
kodi
- hardware acceleration
libstafright OFF
mediacodec OFF
rockchip ON
23976 rockchip ON
- playback
adjust display refresh OFF (its not a computer display)
sync playback display OFF (its not a computer display)
that works fine for me... ;-)

@futeko.com: When will be the "Futeko-Release" with Change-log ready?
It seems the 1.1.1 does not include any bug-fix e.g. AV-Asynch in passthrough with AVR with 50% of movies.
@all: Did someone ask Himedia for the Change-log for the European FW 1.1.1 by email?
