Title: Q5 Pro First Look
Post by: futeko.com on April 20, 2016, 10:33:40 AM
Q5 Pro is due for release at the end of May. It will be a cut-down version of Q10 Pro without internal HDD bay, with less storage (8GB) and some differences in ports. We don't know price yet, but it will be higher than previous generation Q5 4K3D.

Unlike previous generations of Q5 (Q5, Q5-II, Q5 4K3D), Q5 Pro has undergone a complete redesign with new casing. The result is something not radically different to the previous generation(!), but with a sleeker design incorporating the bevelled aluminium edges of HiMedia H8.

The international version we sell will have 'HIMEDIA' printed on the top and not the Chinese writing (which says 'HiMedia' in Chinese).

Here are the first images:

Yes, it has.

The Chinese version Q5 Pro will have SATA port but not the international version. If you want SATA then you'll have to choose Q10 Pro.

it's not so good, SATA can be helpful.  :(

It's probably quite an expensive feature to add for the amount of people who use it.

SATA can be inexpensively added through a USB 3.0 SATA dock: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-external/harddriveenclosures/Novatech/6619US3.html

Is that the power button on the front-left?

Also wondering about heat and ventilation. The last-gen got rather hot... not that I noticed any performance issues though.

I presume the base has ventilation.

How hot it gets will depend on how hot the V200 chip runs in use, something I don't know the answer to. Q10 Pro runs very cool, but it has the big case and fan.

Hello,

i have the Q5 4k3d...yes the Q5 is hot..very hot, but it's works perfectly H24.

i am so disappointed about the new Q5 pro's design, i would have liked to have a black color.

HiMedia have said that the idea is to have continuity from previous Q5 products. I know some people would have liked black casing, and it is something I suggested to HiMedia, but they've intentionally made it similar to previous Q5s.

They also said that Q10 Pro is intended as the 'professional' product. I think this will have had a bearing on the casing colours.

The shorter antenna will have impact on Wifi performance....at least that what one has to expect.

I'm not sure the antenna is any shorter than Q5 4K3D. I'd expect wi-fi reception to be the same/good.

Sorry I meant in comparison to Q10Pro.
Though....to be honest I doubt that Wifi would help anything at all when streaming 4K Video.
Gigabit LAN-Port is far more important. Wlan is nice to have If I want to use that thing on sunny days in the garden ;)

btw. Himedia website offline atm.

Thanks. A 'pretty' review, but lacking meat ... it's also amazing how blatant pirated content is in China. They don't even try to mask it.

Note that the Chinese Q5 Pro will be quite different in terms of hardware to the international version.

International version will have no external SATA but will have AC wi-fi.

I lived in China for a year and blatant piracy and copyright infringement is the least of their worries

I've lived there as well... late 90's. Street vendors with suitcases full of DVD's and CD's.

Bear in mind that International Q5 Pro has significant hardware differences. e.g. AC wi-fi, no SATA, bluetooth.

Wait and see.

Can you elaborate a bit more please? Any hint will be welcome, because for me this is a deal-breaker (compared to my old and trusted Dune HD Max), s otherwise Q5 Pro is the best on the market

I am also waiting to hear about this! The box is perfect fit for me, I've never used a Himedia player before (currently using my own HTPC and also nVidia Shield), none of these obviously handle full bluray menus. If this Q5Pro can and also if it can handle 3D bluray menus, then i will definitely purchase it :D

How long before we can find out?
