This works on any version of Kodi and gives full hardware features (4K, auto-frame rate switching, 3D, 7.1 HD-Audio etc) from Kodi.
It works by modifying Kodi to run HiMedia's hardware video player for most video.
WRAPPER v1.0.1 IS PRE-INSTALLED ON FIRMWARE LATER THAN 1.0.5 SO NO NEED TO REINSTALL IT.
1. Run KODI, and then exit KODI by click the EXIT icon.
2. Download and install http://www.mediafire.com/download/00rvha2a1vf4a8t/Wrapper-1.0.1_HMD_0628_Release.apk (http://www.mediafire.com/download/00rvha2a1vf4a8t/Wrapper-1.0.1_HMD_0628_Release.apk).
3. Run the newly installed app (it will be available under 'My Apps'. Select 'Set to Wrapper player'.
4. Run KODI and you should now have 4K, auto-frame rate switching, 3D, 7.1 HD-Audio etc support.
5. You can test if wrapper is installed by navigating to a video and pressing remote key. You should get a 'play using' option in menu with two options, 'Wrapper' and 'DVDPlayer (kodi internal player'.
Uninstall instructions:
Run the wrapper app and select 'Set to KODI Player'.

After you installed the wrapper APK, did you open the wrapper app and actually click 'install' to apply it to Kodi?
If there isn't a playercorefactory.xml in your Kodi userdata folder, then it didn't apply correctly.
-
Yes , playercorefactory.xml is in Kodi folder
No prob with Q5 "normal"
-
Um, don't know; maybe . has thoughts on what may be up. I haven't seen other reports of new wrapper not working. But, it's also early and users are still getting their players.

I tested under SPMC , always the same problem of black screen with the Wrapper :(
-
SPMC won't work as it has a different signature. That's why it can co-exist w/regular Kodi.
I'd try uninstalling wrapper and Kodi, then install Kodi, open it, let it sit for 2 mins, then close it. Install and open wrapper, apply it, then close. Now, re-start Kodi and try.
-
Ok ....
I found the cause of the problem , when I read a movie on a USB key or external hardDrive -> wrapper ...
Read movie on my network sharing (SMB) , it does not work :-\
-
My set-up is the opposite... using SMB for playing all videos, not USB.
One thing you can try is NFS... just go to 'Media Center' and choose NFS to auto-search for and find a share. It should then be automatically added. Now, I think you can add this share from Kodi.
Or, PM @looun here... he created a mounting tool sometime ago and should be able to help.

please note if you use KODI/SPMC to play files from SMB network, the SMB network should have NO User ID and Password.

Thanks @looun... HiMedia really needs to fix issue w/password protected SMB shares.

Thanks @looun... HiMedia really needs to fix issue w/password protected SMB shares.
i thin k it's not possible, kodi not send login info to external player .
The only solution it's himedia media center with enhancement Automount Multimedia shared net folder like we have suggest.

I'm using Synology 1812+ w/o password SMB protected shares.

Could i have an official confirmation if the q10 Pro can support 8tb internal hard disk ? Because a member wrote to me that it only supports up to 6tb.
If so, the Seagate 8tb that i have on mind , has a speed of 5900 rpm.Is it combatible or not ? If not which 8tb Hdd would you suggest ? Anyone ?

Wrapper will decode and send 10bit to my tv?
I read Kodi is limited to 8bit.
-

I read Kodi is limited to 8bit.
You'll get exactly the same output as with the Himedia video player app.
So, yes you'll get 10bit.

Awesome!
Thanks, futeko!

Hello, I also have a problem with the wrapper...!
I have installed the wrapper as explained in the first post. When I connect to my Synology NAS via UPNP all movies are played with Kodi's player. When I connect to the NAS with NFS none of the movies are played at all... :-[! So the wrapper appears not to work...
When I open the wrapper again, it says "playercorefactory.xml already exist"...so I assume that the wrapper is correctly installed...
UPDATE:
Found the solution:
1. Connection must be established via SMB.
2. Guest account must be active on the NAS.
Now works fine :D 8)!!
regards, wiwnet

Yes. Mist be Samba networking and no password on Samba share.

Wrapper has stopped working ... is now just black screen of death with no audio/video when files are played.
Files can be played direct from SD Card in side of Q10 Pro
Have even tried flashing back to original firmware , uninstalling & reinstalling wrapper , even tried Kodi 16.1 Jarvis RC2
Nothing seems to get wrapper working again :'(
*EDIT ... Ok , schoolboy error ... i THOUGHT i had reflashed it , but didnt put the file on a USB stick , just and SD Card instead.
Reflash now successfull and wrapper up and running and NO black screen of death :)

Here you go. OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION OF 8TB COMPATIBILITY. I have the Seagate Archive 8TB HDD internally hooked up and it's purring like a comfy cat. 6,25 TB of the available 7,28 TB are used, so there's your proof. I took a quick pic with my utterly crappy mobile phone's cam for you to see.

@LLChris thank you for your response.Thats exactly the Hdd i want to buy as internal.To be 100% sure we're talking about the model Seagate Archive ST8000AS0002 8tb because there are also some models of Seagate 8tb that costs more.

How did you format your 8Tb drive? Thru Android (Q10 Pro), left it untouched, thru a PC (GPT, NTFS) etc.?

That is the exact model I bought as the "Archive" version is the cheapest available. So go for it. :)

I've put it in an external casing, hooked it up to my Win7 PC and NTFS formatted it. Then crammed it with HD movies. It was only yesterday, that my Q10 Pro was delivered, so I put the filled ST8000AS0002 8tb into the Q10 and let it initialise. No five mins later everything was ready to fly. ;D

Thank you very much. You've just made me a very happy person. You see i read all the reviews so far and they are very interesting but for me that i only want is to have my collection of movies in one place and to watch them with decent PQ is plain chinese.I think I'll have problems with the implementation of Kodi but that's a thing to deal when my Q10 arrives.Thanks again

Hello everyone!
I became an owner of Pro Q10.
I'd like help:
If I adjust the resolution to 2160p from any upgrade, and then turn on the HDMI auto adaptation will be active this option, but the resolution itself transfers the 1080p 50Hz all the time. Then when I start a 4K content will remain 1080p 50Hz, what is the problem?
If I take the output resolution 2160p 60Hz and set on the 1080P24Hz and start video, no signal on the tv.
If I take the output resolution 2160p 60Hz and play 1080p24-50Hz, 2160p60-50Hz video, the tv signal are in every case 2160p60Hz. It does not work the auto frame rate? What is the problem?
Wrapper installed.
My tv a Lg 55UB850v 4K, I take the signal hdmi 3 port. The port can 4K60hz, 10bit, UHD DeepColor.
Please help Me!
Thank you everyone! Sorry for my bad english!

It looks like the Q10 Pro thinks the max res your TV is capable of is 1080p 50Hz, so setting to auto is causing it the set 1080p 50Hz. What (if anything ) is between Q10 Pro and TV? What HDMI cable are you using, possibly an HDMI 1.4 cable? What happens when using cable supplied with Q10 Pro?
If I take the output resolution 2160p 60Hz and set on the 1080P24Hz and start video, no signal on the tv.
Weird that Q10 Pro outputs interface at 2160p, but not video at 1080p. 1080p should be upscaled to 2160p if that's what the output resolution is set to. Again, please try changing HDMI cable. There's a problem with how your TV is interpreting the HDMI output from Q10 Pro.
If I take the output resolution 2160p 60Hz and play 1080p24-50Hz, 2160p60-50Hz video, the tv signal are in every case 2160p60Hz. It does not work the auto frame rate? What is the problem?
Wrapper installed.
Auto frame-rate switching works for 50/60Hz > 23.976 but not for 50 <> 60Hz. See here for info: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=795

Wrapper don't work for me too.
I made exactly what you recommand to do, but the result is always the same way...
I have a message about wrapper has to close, and kodi is crashing, i get back to q10 menu and i have to "kill" kodi to close it...

It appears that the new wrapper version doesn't work with local files (USB / SATA).
I will change the links back to the old wrapper. Should have a new new wrapper with everything working soon.

Which version are you getting the error message for? What error message?
The original version works for all files, but not BDMV format blu-ray rips.
The new version works only for network files but fixes the BDMV bug.
We recommend using the original version until Himedia release a version with everything working.
-
I guess it'll be quickly corrected by HiMedia, they do not check before make available :(

That would be our fault. HiMedia didn't officially release that version, we released it. We checked that it fixed the BDMV problem, but didn't expect the regression bug for local media. It will be fixed quickly.

ok, thank you for your honesty :)

I tried following these directions but I keep getting an error message that himediawrapper was forced to close as soon as I try to play any video. I went into Kodi, then exited, then downloaded the himediawrapper listed on the first page, then ran it to install the playercorefactory, then went back into Kodi and no videos will play. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. :(

Hi everyone
In my case
1. I try to read some ISO / ISO 3D files and a problem arises with all the files I run
-> A popup opens with this "EXTERNAL DRIVE ACTIVE - Click" OK "at the end of reading." Normally popup to disappear very quickly just before the playback starts but for me, nothing starts and this popup rest until I press "OK". I return to my list of movies ....
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/381956PHOTO20160518212620.jpg)
2. Reading demo 4K files (LG_4K_Hongkong.mp4, Samsung_UHD_Dubai.ts among others) does not work at all
"VIDEO PROBLEM" - Confirm
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/391523PHOTO20160518182809.jpg)
3. 1080p 3D file playback does not work either, same message
"VIDEO PROBLEM" - Confirm
READING THESE 3 FILES TYPES WHEN I USE KODI W/O Wrapper IS OK (Read with ... -> DVDPlayer) but in 1080p@50 resolution since no adjustment is done and this is the resolution that the player offers me when I select the auto HDMI adapter). I tested with my drive in USB3 then I installed internally Q10. It does not change anything.
I tried an uninstall and a complete reinstallation of Kodi AND Wrapper (I tested the two existing versions (Wrapper-20160217 and Wrapper 1.0.1_HMD_0505_Release).
I try with direct HDMi link from the Q10 to my TV, no change

It perfectly works when using HimediaVideoPlayer directly from Media Center or File manager.
I think there is a real integration problem of the wrapper in Kodi

I have installed the wrapper 1.0.1 and it functions perfectly with my kodi films, but as stated in other forums, it doesn't work with stream and IPTV.
I found a new "playercorefactory.xml" that allows to play film with Himedia and streams with kodi. So I need to change the "playercorefactory.xml" that is released with wrapper 1.0.1 D 05-05, with the new one.
I have this new file but I don't know how to replace it. I searched in several forums and I found that the first step is to enable the view of the hidden files of the Himedia and here is the first problem: I'm not able to find where I can choose to enable the hidden files. I went in file manager and I tried several options but nothing; I went in settings, then in display settings (as suggested in some forums) but again nothing. Is there the possibility to enable the view of hidden files in the Q10 Pro and if yes which is the path to reach it?
Then they suggest to paste this new file in the correct folder (the one that is hidden), but they didn't say how to enable it. I don't know if once pasted, is now possible to start the wrapper and everything is ok, or if I have to enable the new playercorefactory.xml in some way. My fear is that when I click on install playercorefactory, the app will install the older version, the one that comes with the wrapper apk and not the new file.
Thanks for your help
-
E/S explorer or X-Plore can display hidden folders/files. (Playstore apms)
In Kodi too you can ask to get them shown.
-
Thanks.
I found and enable the command in Kodi. From here I see the correct folder, but I don't know how to paste the xml file.
I have to download from google play one of the two apps that you suggest? the original software of the Himedia couldn't display hidden folders?
Wich one do you suggest?

Hello your kind of problem is not the Wrapper but think about where your movies files are in the internal hard disk or NAS Samba ??
And witch version of kodi you use 16.1 final one !!!!
It's anormal that he said to you Click Ok.......... he can't find exactly where your files are.....
Just see when you try to paly directly your files by "Media Center", it works ????
-
You can use ES file explorer.
-
Here is what I did:
I uninstalled the previous playercorefactory.xml in the window that opens clicking on the wrapper app
I used "file manager (explorer)" to copy and paste the playercorefactory.xml in the folder Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/kodi/userdata
I opened and closed KODI
I opened the wrapper app and select install playercorefactory.xml
I opened again KODI but things remain unchanged: I can see my film from kodi on the himedia using the wrapper (that was great, very fast), but again when I started an IPTV channel the wrapper crashed.
Where is my mistake? Why I'm not able to use the wrapper only for my films and the kodi player for IPTV?
For Binnugsay: sorry but I don't understand, I didn't have problem to play my film from the internal HDD both with Himedia and with Kodi 16.1

Hi
Q5pro on order
Newbie question what does the wrapper do?
Can I just plug the box in and go or is it vital I install the wrapper?
Thanks
-
Normally you have two or more Mediaplayers on your Qxx Pro Player.
Kodi and it's player and the Himedaicenter and it's player.
If you preferr to work with the management of Kodi (which is really great!), but you do not want to use the player of Kodi (because it es stuttering) you need the wrapper. The Wrapper i a software that passes the movie, clicked in Kodi, over to the Himediaplayer.
And if the movie is finished or you stopp it, the Wrapper passes it back over to Kodi and closes the Himediaplayer.
Thats it, only a little Software app that passes movies around.
-
-
Reading with the Wrapper is now OK !! Woah !!
So mark this well to all those who have the message " video problem - Confirm" when playing certain files and then "press " OK " at the end of reading " and nothing happens :
In my case , files that do not want to launch were in directories named
# 3D
# 4K
#ISO
A renaming immediately solved my problems
3D
4K
ISO

NOT using special characters like f.e. # is an absolute prerequisite!
Working with different operating systems it is an absolute must not to use such Characters!

Issues with wrapper.
[SAMSUNG 10bit HEVC 4K] ok_h265_10bit_51Mbit_59fps_Samsung_SUHD_Journey_of_Color.ts
On nvidia shield i have 1080p60hz.
On Q10PRO i have 1080p50hz.
Another 4k file 24fps/ On Q10 i have 1080p24.
Same problem with 4k30fps, resolution doesn't change.
-
How do i know that kodi plays via wrapper and not by itself ? If the wrapper it's installed correctly shouldn't i have the PQ settings of Q10 pro in a menu somehow?
-
If you are playing a movie and are using the Kodi player and you press the ok button, it shows you infos about the movie, but the movie keeps on running.
I you press the ok button and the movie pauses, and shows you infos about the movie, you are playing via Wrapper with the Himedia Player.
-
Just to confirm, after upgrading to this new 1.0.3 version, do I have to manually install the wrapper, or does this firmware have the wrapper installed already?
-
Just to confirm, after upgrading to this new 1.0.3 version, do I have to manually install the wrapper, or does this firmware have the wrapper installed already?
The wrapper is installed. You need to do nothing.
You can confirm this by running Kodi, finding a video file, pressing remote menu key, and seeing if the 'play using' option is present. If it is then wrapper is installed.
Reinstalling the wrapper won't do any harm, but is unnecessary.
-
The menu it's only present when i play a movie from my hard drives via kodi. If i play from the add ons i have no PQ settings. Is that right?
-
I confirmed the wrapper was installed and enabled. I got no sound and bad PQ. I tried all kinds of settings, both in the box settings and kodi settings to no avail. I then uninstalled the wrapper and now sound works perfectly in kodi. PQ is good too. 4k playback still has issues.
I have a yamaha receiver.
Why does this seem backwards to what everyone else is reporting here - that you must have the wrapper installed to get positive results?
-
The menu it's only present when i play a movie from my hard drives via kodi. If i play from the add ons i have no PQ settings. Is that right?
That is correct. The wrapper is only for local (USB/HDD/LAN) files.
This is by design. Most add-ons require internal Kodi player. They wouldn't work otherwise.
-
I confirmed the wrapper was installed and enabled.
Without the wrapper installed you loose 7.1 audio, 3D-ISO, HiMedia PQ settings, and some performance, however Kodi still works well with hardware decoding for most files.
So if you don't need any of the above then you don't need to install the wrapper (or can uninstall it from latest firmware).
Also worth noting that wrapper is only for local files (USB/HDD/LAN), not streaming via Kodi add-ons. Streaming will use Kodi internal player regardless of whether wrapper in installed or not.
If you had wrapper installed and were playing local files it's a puzzle as to why you got no sound and bad PQ. This is indeed the reverse of what should happen. Please post more info about your setup, the files you're trying to play, and where you're playing them from.
-
the no sound and bad PQ was playback was using 4k DTS mkv files located on my nas, connected to my LAN, which is mapped on my Q10. I also had sound issues with 11080p DTS movies. I've been testing a few different firmware options and so I need to step back and test again with the official release. Some of my issues were my fault, having the box or kodi settings wrong. Been trying hdmi raw vs Auto, etc.
I reset the Q10 using the official (recently updated) firmware. I did not use the custom firmware, as example. I will test playback of both 1080p and 2160p and hope to get DD, DTS.
My Q10 is connected directly to my Vizio 4k tv, on a port currently supporting 4k@30fps. I have optic out on my tv that feeds my Yamaha RX A820. I can't run the hdmi through the yamaha because it is not 4k compatible. I have 5.1 speakers setup.
I plan to test without the wrapper installed, given I don't need it. Soon I will have enough money for a new yamaha rx-a750 that supports 4k and true hd 7.1. I will be getting 2 more speakers. At that point, i will need the wrapper to get 7.1 and true hd - right?
-
At that point, i will need the wrapper to get 7.1 and true hd - right?
Yes, unless Android Kodi at that time supports 7.1 audio. Which is unlikely.

2160p playback does not work very good. If I do get both picture and sound, they are both bad, skipping, studdering, audio skipping, etc. Some 4k movies won't play at all, some with picture only. Bottom line, out of the box, this unit does not play 4k - YET
All movies at 1080p with DTS or DD play just fine.
Resolution does not switch automatically, so I have to set the screen resolution each time. For example, if I play a 2160p movies, but leave the resolution on 1080p, it will not change - meaning it plays at 1080p. Some 4k movies did play at the lower resolution, while they would not play at 2160p. Same goes the other way. If I leave the resolution at 2160p, and play 1080p movies, they are upscaled to 2160p. They do play fine, but the resolution should fall back to 1080p.
I tried selecting the box in Settings that says "HDMI auto adaptation" under Display settings. If I check this box, the resolution will drop to 1080p and STAY t here. If I change the resolution to 2160p, that box is unchecked and the resoltuion will stay at 2160. Bottom line - the auto adaptation does not work so switching resolutions does not work.
If you are using the official firmware with no wrapper (sound is 5.1) and you are getting good 4k results, I want to hear from you on how this is possible. I will admit that I only have 5 4k movies to test with, and it is possible that these rips are not good. There just isn't that much 4k content out there yet.

Hi there. Thanks for your help with this in advance.
The issue is that I am unable to play the movies as when i try to play them the following message pops up contenously on the kodi (on the top left side of the screen) "Himediavideoplayer" :(
This happens when I start a movie in kodi and the wrapper starts the hi media player instead of it's own player. i have already re-installed 1.0.1 fw and the wrapper but nothing happens. I have also tried to do the same with 1.0.3 fw but again, nothing happens. As a last result, i have also tried to download the wrapper and installed the whole thing again but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. Just to confirm i use smb to browse the movies.
Can you please confirm what should i do to get the media player to play all the movies that is available through my network by using kodi? Also what settings do i need to set on Nas so it can play the movies without any issues? At the moment I am using external usb HDD and i start the movies from there (including video, files -simply finding movies and clicking on play) and it looks like this solves the problem temporarily as it is using the hi media player -so it works perfectly this way (wrapper). Is it possible that i might need help to set up my network (216 j synology) as that is causing the problem?
https://www.dropbox.com/s/sqzzm19qi3ov1s0/2016-06-01%2007.23.04.jpg?dl=0
Can you please help me with this issue? I am worried that the fault is with my media player and not my network. I did some research online and I couldn't find a solution so i hope you can help me. Thank you.

Vanilla Kodi will play 4K but performance will be much worse than through HiMedia player. Also, as you've found, auto framerate switching does not work without wrapper.
At the moment, Kodi without wrapper is only really good for 1080p max, 5.1 sound max, and fixed refresh rate.

Hello looun,
In your installation process in Step 3, we have to copy the ".nomedia" file into net share folder, i'm sorry but don't understood where exactly. Soory
Thanks

This is a PITA. I have to switch between Wrapper and no Wrapper. For 4k - wrapper on, and I have to turn it off for 1080p. With manual resolution settings, this box is no where close to prime time. I hope for a major firmware update soon that fixes these MAJOR bugs.

If I understand you request is to learn how to use Kodi with external player for 4K video and DVDplayer for less resolution
change in /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/playercorefactory.xml this lines
<!-- Internet streams -- Disabled for now -->
<!--<rule internetstream="true" player="MXPlayerFree" />-->
<rule video="true" videoresolution="540" player="XBMCWrapper">
<rule filename=".*540.*" player="XBMCWrapper"/>
</rule> <rule video="true" videoresolution="720" player="XBMCWrapper">
<rule filename=".*720.*" player="XBMCWrapper"/>
</rule> <rule video="true" videoresolution="1080" player="XBMCWrapper">
<rule filename=".*1080.*" player="XBMCWrapper"/>
</rule>
with this ones
<!-- Internet streams -- Disabled for now -->
<!--<rule internetstream="true" player="MXPlayerFree" />-->
<rule video="true" videoresolution="540" player="DVDPlayer">
<rule filename=".*540.*" player="DVDPlayer"/>
</rule> <rule video="true" videoresolution="720" player="DVDPlayer">
<rule filename=".*720.*" player="DVDPlayer"/>
</rule> <rule video="true" videoresolution="1080" player="DVDPlayer">
<rule filename=".*1080.*" player="DVDPlayer"/>
</rule>
BTW keep on mind Kodi have to know your video resolution so files need to be on movie library and scanned, will not work for folder without contend set.

I started over again and updated to the official firmware, not a custom one. With the wrapper on, I cannot play anything. I selected a few different 4k movies and the screen goes black, except for a grey bar across the top and in the upper hand corner it says himediaplayer. it will stay there, doing nothing until I hit esc or return. I'm then back at the kodi screen and there is a box that says external player in use, click OK when playback is done...or something like that.
With the wrapper off, playback works but with very poor results for 4k movies - as we already know is a bug.
From reading in this thread, the wrapper calls another video player, but doesn't respond. Perhaps I'm missing a app or something?
I play movies from my nas via smb share, and yes with password. Is the smb share password issue still a bug? If yes, they need to fix this or it is a show stopper! I will not have shares without passwords and this unit is useless to me if it cannot play my movies from my nas via smb.
Update after more testing: I confirmed that if the smb share has a user id and password, the himedia player will not work with wrapper installed/enabled. I launched himediacenter, went to LAN and auto searched for my smb share. When I click to create a shortcut, it prompted me for the user id and password. That saved it as a shortcut to my nas. I then launched kodi with the wrapper enabled and it worked. It can now see and play the 4k movies. I still think the PQ still needs attention, but at least it can access my nas via smb with a user id and password. I rebooted and it still works, so seems like a good work around.

With wrapper off you are using Kodi internal player for 4K. It works but not for higher bitrate files.
Glad you got it working. There is a thread here that details how to get Kodi+wrapper with SMB password protected shares working: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=813.0

What we really need is for the wrapper to work on NFS.
Please ... :)

Is it possible someone to post his modified version of Wrapper for Q10/Q5 pro in order to play streams with Kodi?
I've changed it in accordance with this thread:
http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=425.msg6664#msg6664
Unfortunately a lot of channels in IPTV Fusion Simple PVR client are still not working.
Error message: Can't play this link.

Hello, how can I open a SAMBA (SMB) account?
-
Hello, how can I open a SAMBA (SMB) account?
Samba is a networking protocol. It's the default for Windows networks/shares.
To share content on a PC/Mac:
Windows: http://kodi.wiki/view/SMB/Windows
MacOS: http://kodi.wiki/view/SMB/Mac
If you're running Linux the method will vary depending on distro. If you're sharing from a NAS (network hard drive) then download the manual for your NAS.
To share content from the Q5/Q10 Pro:
On Q5/Q10 Pro, go Home - Settings - More - SAMBA Service - Start.
-
On 1.0.7 custom fw with latest wrapper:
After updating to KODI Krypton Beta2, wrapper is not functioning properly anymore.
It tries to play everything, even video streams like YouTube within KODI (which does not work).
I'm currently trying to manually edit the playercorefactory.xml so it only plays 4k and DTS-HD/DTS-MA etc.
-_-
edit:
it worked.
For those who are adventurous and want to try KODI Krypton on Q10 Pro with wrapper functionality:
Navigate to \\ANDROID_BOXNUMBER\share\sdcard\Android\data\org.xbmc.kodi\files\.kodi\userdata
Make a backup of the original playercorefactory.xml - just in case
Open playercorefactory.xml
Replace text with this:
<playercorefactory>
<players>
<!-- himedia player for video -->
<player name="Wrapper" type="ExternalPlayer" audio="false" video="true">
<filename>com.himedia.xbmcwrapper</filename>
<hidexbmc>true</hidexbmc>
<playcountminimumtime>120</playcountminimumtime>
</player>
</players>
<rules action="prepend">
<!--network protocol rules-->
<rule protocols="nfs" player="DVDPlayer" /> <!--all nfs-->
<!--internet streams rules-->
<rule protocols="pvr" player="DVDPlayer" /> <!--all pvr-->
<rule internetstream="true" player="DVDPlayer" /> <!--all streams-->
<!--video audio channels rules-->
<rule video="true" audiochannels="6" player="Wrapper" /> <!--5.1 audio-->
<rule video="true" audiochannels="8" player="Wrapper" /> <!-- 7.1 audio-->
<!--video resolution rules-->
<rule video="true" videoresolution="720" player="Wrapper" />
<rule video="true" videoresolution="1080" player="Wrapper" />
<rule video="true" videoresolution="2160" player="Wrapper" /> <!--4K-->
<!--audio / music rules-->
<rule audio="true" player="PAplayer"/> <!--all audio to kodi internal music player-->
<!--specific codecs rules-->
<rule video="true" audiocodec="truehd|true-hd" player="Wrapper"/>
</rules>
</playercorefactory>
Exit and restart KODI.
Works for me with video streams and files with HD audio formats.
Most DVD isos won't play.
But it's nothing new that Q10 pro is sh*t at playing isos.
-
Hi, is it possible to disable auto start next file in the wrapper.
In kodi you have the option to disable that. But with the wrapper, the next video file is automatically started when the current one has ended.

Hi, is it possible to disable auto start next file in the wrapper.
In kodi you have the option to disable that. But with the wrapper, the next video file is automatically started when the current one has ended.

Hi,
I am about to buy this player but I need all audio as pass through specialy, DTS, DTS HD and Dolby and Dolby HD
As I understand Kodi doesnt passthrough these HD audio without Himedia Wrapper
I see the current version of Wrapper has 2 options, Set to Kodi Player and Set to Wrapper Player
I am a lill confused here, I want to use Kodi and all its feature thats the whole point in buying this player so if I play DTS or other HD files from Kodi will it play using Kodi player or other Himedia player ?
Also I have Synology NAS and its password protected....now In Kodi I can add smb source and from there browse movies etc folder and add to Kodi which then builds its library
Now as I read with wrapper installed and tagged to Kodi player the SBM NAS login credentials does not pass through, so how will that work ?
and how to resolve it ?
also which opeion in wrapper to chose to fix these issues ?
response on these will help be make my buying decision
-
I have set Player to wrapper Player and it Plays the files from my synology NAS via NFS without any problems
-
I just got my Q10 pro and just got kodi 16.1 setup connecting to my network share and from the built in media center all videos play fine over the smb share (no user name setup or needed) but when i tried playing from kodi using the wrapper i can play everything using the wrapper except 4k videos. when i try and play the 4k file in kodi it just flashes and the window is left that i have to hit ok when finished playing the file.
i have tried many different ways to setup the playercorefactory.xml file but nothing seems to play the file from kodi. the kodi logs look fine when comparing to 1080p files that play fine using the wrapper. i have attached my latest playercorefactory file and any help it appreciated.
i am on the latest android 7 firmware.
thanks
James

I tried a few more things...
Tried removing kodi and the wrapper and re-installing and that did not solve the problem.
Tried copying the 4k videos to a local drive connected to the Q10 box and tried playing from kodi via the wrapper and that seemed to work but since all my storage is in my NAS it will not work for the long run.
so from the looks my problem seems to be playing the 4k files over the network via kodi and the wrapper. hopefully someone has a tweak or fix to get this working.
thanks

Kodi+wrapper and himediaplayer playback performance should be identical (all the wrapper does is call Himediaplayer for playback).
So your problem is puzzling! Have you installed anything else that might be interfering?
My catch all solution would be to reinstall firmware using reset button method and start from scratch. It should work.

I got this online with some other apps installed but I removed all that did not look like it was needed, I also re-installed both kodi and the wrapper but no luck. so I was thinking about doing a factory reset first then maybe v17rc2 and worse case reloading the firmware again.
thanks

I would not advise doing a factory reset. Some apps are installed first boot after firmware install.

Can I completely uninstall the Kodi 16.1 which comes with Q10 pro and install the Kodi 17 RC and will wrapper still work with Kodi 17 ?
-
It is what I have done
K17 RC works fine with wrapper
I'm on 5.1 Android version / 1.0.9 CSFW
-
I have set Wrapper to "Set to Wrapper Player" so while playing my local files it opens himedia player fine from Kodi
but the problem is when I try to open any other Video adons like E****** the movie doesnt play at all ... I think it tries to open himedia player for those also but since himedia player cannot do stream it just dont open those vids
its a bummer...any way to fix pls ?

after numerous re-installs I found the problem, it seems my master shared MySql database was corrupt and when i re-created a new blank one with the same config files i was using it worked fine on all the players including the Q10.
Thanks

I'm exactly with the same problem. I was hoping that 2.1 Firmware will fixed due to Kodi 17 support but no luck.
Kodi 17 doesn't play content from add-ons on my Q10 Pro.
I'm going to downgrade to Kodi 16.1 until some fix come up.

Unfortunately after 10 seconds of video playback (kodi addon/network/hdd) it starts freezing and hanging.
Any suggestions?

Use a file Explorer on the himedia and navigate to that directory. Then edit the document in a text editor if you have one installed. Es file Explorer works well with its built in text editor, although it has some annoying notifications built in these days.
I am waiting in my box to come but pretty sure this is what is required.

As I previously mention this workaround doesn't work 100% percent for me. I have sluggish playback from videos addons.
I have made the changes on a PC with samba enabled on the Q10 Pro, just make sure when you navigate to \\ANDROID_YOURBOXINNETWORK\share\sdcard\Android\data\org.xbmc.kodi\files\.kodi\userdata on the pc you have to enable "Show hidden files".
I have tested this on Android 7 and the definitive version of Kodi 17 (Not a release candidate).
I ended up downgrading AGAIN to Kodi 16.1
-
The sluggish playback isn't related to wrapper or playercorefactory. It's how Android Kodi 17 is on all Android platforms with streaming add-ons. Kodi need to fix it.
This is the method I would use to edit playercorefactory:

how can I easily roll back to Kodi 16. 17 not working consistently with HiMedia player. Kodi 17 player not passing through audio, have all passthroughs ticked. Switch to Himedia player and passthrough works on Local network content but not on Addon services. Addons work with Kodi 17 player. Tried the xml player core factory text change as suggested but to no avail.
I did Android 7 update then firmware then 16 - 17 kodi. Seems the only successful application of Kodi 17 is on Android 5?
Any other suggestions to get 1 player (either Kodi or Himedia) to pass through all audio and run E*****s addons
Thanks

I have also updated to kodi 17. That was apparently not such a great idea.. Wrapper doesn't work anymore and default kodi player only gives sound and a black screen. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Uninstall Kodi 17 and install Kodi 16.1. http://mirrors.kodi.tv/releases/android/arm/
Some stuff doesn't work properly on Kodi 17. e.g. HD-Audio, some add-ons. These are mostly the fault of Kodi not HiMedia. Kodi have broken a lot of stuff with Kodi 17. HD-audio should be fixed very soon but the problems with add-ons / streaming need fixing by Kodi.

I have Q5 Pro few days and honestly... I am quite disappointed about that all "Wrapper" thing... Why it can't be just compatible with mediacodec in Kodi?
I am very new to HiSilicon chips. Please, can someone kindly explain to me is it any better form Amlogic's S905/S912?
When both mediacodecs are set in Kodi 17 I have 0,5-1fps on on 720p video :'( EPIC lag :o
With one mediacodec set in Kodi 17 it's not bad but 4K footage is pink
No working passthrough via HDMI so only stereo left :(
Now I know thank I need to roll back to Kodi 16.1 because Wrapper doesn't work with it yet >:( I'll try today and hopefully device will be usable.
I have at home in other room Zoomtak UPlus with Amlogic chipset and there is no BS Wrapper stuff to play with. It works, no hassle 8)

I see that DancesWithChickens has some great Ideas. Will try his idea first :)

You can open playercorefactory either using the Q10 Pro with a file manager app or by enabling Samba on Q10 Pro and using a PC.
You'll need to download a file explorer app on Q10 Pro. I suggest ASUS File Manager or ES File Explorer, both available for free in Play Store. Make sure 'show hidden files' is enabled in options.
If using a PC use your regular file explorer app (in Windows, Windows File Explorer) and again make sure show hidden files is enabled.

The updated wrapper does work very well with Kodi 17 and overcomes current limitations like full audio 7.1 passthrough. (This is with Android 7 latest firmware 2.0.1).
I had some initial problems with Kodi 17 from add-ons and updates getting into a reboot loop and re-installed twice.
Re-installed a clean copy from Kodi.tv (which needs all settings changed again) and have kept auto-updates off. Re-installed the latest wrapper from this forum and it has been rock solid for over 10 days. Plays all my remuxed 1080p 7.1 mkv's perfectly and the new Kodi library is nice ;D

The wrapper is not designed to work with streams.
Best setup is wrapper for local files and Kodi internal player for streams. This is how the box is configured for Kodi 16.1, but for Kodi 17 streams require a change to playercorefactory (wrapper setup): http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=710.msg13417#msg13417. Similar will be included in next Android 7 firmware.

So you can not play HD audio streams on the HiMedia? ???
Using Android 7 firmware 2.0.1 or Android 5.1 firmware 1.0.9:
With Kodi 16.1:
- All HD-Audio (e.g. 7.1 channel) from local sources (USB/SATA/Samba/NFS) using Kodi+wrapper.
- Up to 5.1 channel audio (DTS / AC3) from local sources (USB/SATA/Samba/NFS) using Kodi internal player.
- Up to 5.1 channel audio (DTS / AC3) from Kodi streaming add-ons using Kodi internal player.
With Kodi 17:
- All HD-Audio (e.g. 7.1 channel) from local sources (USB/SATA/Samba/NFS) using Kodi+wrapper.
- Only 2 channel audio from local sources (USB/SATA/Samba/NFS) using Kodi internal player.
- Only 2 channel audio from Kodi streaming add-ons using Kodi internal player.
The expectation is that the next Android 7 firmware will enable Kodi 17 7.1 HD-Audio passthrough using Kodi internal player, streaming and local.

If you follow the instructions from Futeko in the first post of this thread, you should be fine to get the wrapper to work.
I have had it working in Android 5.1 and now in 7 with no issues. HD audio 7.1 passes through fine with the wrapper installed correctly.
The wrapper also works with SPMC which is a Kodi 16 fork (see separate thread). This can be installed at the same time as Kodi (it uses a separate directory).
If you want another option to Kodi for local playback of movies and tv, suggest you also try Archos Media Player from PlayStore (see separate thread with full instructions from @looun). http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1786.0

Hi, I've had a Q5 Pro since Thursday. It handled everything I threw at it but I have one extremely annoying problem.
These are all .iso DVD & Blu_rays on 2 WHS2011 servers. One works and the other doesn't but I think it's the SMB problem I just read about. I'm going to experiment further in a little bit. I just leave that as an FYI. I have the correct other thread up in a different tab.
Anyhoo, none of the .iso files present the menu. With blu-ray's its OK because with a few presses I can get to the menu. But DVDs are far worse. They always start off with some weird special feature - a commentary or otherwise. I only know of one Blu-Ray with the same behavior. So for La Femme Nikita dvd #1 Season #1
I get several "playlists". The first two give me commentary. The next two start regular episodes. if I go to #4, then I can go back to #1 and get the regular episode. But if I don't go to #4, no matter how many times I try, I get commentary audio on Ep #1.
I have tried many settings - and combinations - and they all leave me to wind up resetting everything because I go down some rabbit hole and then nothing will play. I'm not sure what to do.
By the way - these all work fine on a Windows 10 machine and also with Kodi internal player (except I can't play 3D and some blu-rays are terribly sluggish on Kodi Internal.)
-
"With blu-ray's its OK because with a few presses I can get to the menu"
how?
-
Can I go back to basics?
Ok so I thought I was using the wrapper as I had ticked 'wrapper' in the wrapper app.
But it turns out I was using Kodi's player. I can only access the wrapper player (HImedia player) if I long press and 'play using'. The default is Kodi's video player.
I want change the default player to the wrapper player without having to 'play using' in Kodi so that it player through the wrapper player each time.
How can I do this.
I copied the 'dances with chicken code' over, but not sure if that's relevant.
thanks a lot

Thanks - I've tried this a couple of times (and made sure the wrapper was uninstalled....) but it doesn't seem to work. The Kodi player has 'default' next it when using 'play with' - I can't see how to get wrapper to be the default.
Wrapper needs to be installed ( not uninstalled) the app run and selected as default (not Kodi).
Re-install, tick default, power off, reboot and try again?
-
Ok figured it out - so it turns out the playercorefactory.xml isn't set up to play MKV files, which all of my files are encoded as.
under
<!--specific codecs rules-->
<rule filetypes="iso|bdmv|mpls|m2ts" player="Wrapper"/>
You have to add |mkv after mt2ts
It now works perfectly.

Weird! All my mkv's (99% of files) have played without issue (with every firmware). No idea how your version of the wrapper has that excluded.
Great to hear you now have quality playback :)

Yep it was very strange....I have no idea either. Think it might have been a fluke.
Trying to tinker with the playercorefactory.xml file to play AAC 5.1 through Kodi only as Wrapper doesn't seem to pass through AAC 5.1 (on my specific set up at least).
Thanks for your help though!

If someone is kind enough to check his/her playercorefactory.xml and spot what's the error in mine.
The problem I'm having is not something too painful, I'm happy enough with Kodi player, but I'm wondering why Wrapper is not the default one, although is selected in My Apps->Wrapper.
Play using is showing me:
- VideoPlayer (Default)
4 times Wrapper!!!
the 6th in the list VideoPlayer.
I did a full reinstall of 2.0.3, copy update.zip on a fresh usb stick, hit the upgrade back button, and I end up with the same scenario as before. It used to be right with 2.0.1 and it appeared in 2.0.3.
Special notes: it also ignores the rule with .*.3D.*. I have a single rip that should match this rule, but it plays with Kodi instead of wrapper.
Special note #2: after re-upgrade I added <rule filetypes="mkv... following the above finding, but no luck. That's the only change I've made to the default file.
Could be <rule protocols="nfs...? My shares are mounted via NFS, read-only, from 2 Synology units. That because I don't want any patch and is not possible to mount 2 Samba shares with 2 different user/pass combination.
Here's my file:
<playercorefactory>

Update: indeed was because nfs was forced to work with VideoPlayer. I don't have to manually add mkv in rule filetypes.
So one question for Himedia/Futeko: Is there a reason to redirect all nfs connections to VideoPlayer?
Follow-up: is there a preferred way to add shares from 2 different NASs, each with its own user/pass and play movies with Wrapper (aka if I add network locations from Kodi interface, are the credentials passed to Wrapper?). I don't want to install any patch to achieve this. I tend to keep the configuration as default as possible to be able to run into a working state as soon as any upgrade is performed - and that not only for my Q10Pro, is a habit I have to customize things as little as possible in order to preserve the compatibility after software upgrades.

I'm using 2.0.3. I can't check now what's the Wrapper version my unit is running, but it has to be the one from the official 2.0.3 firmware.
Maybe I was not clear enough, I had <rule protocols="nfs|http|rtmp|sop" player="VideoPlayer" /> <!--all nfs-->
in playercorefactory.xml and because all my shares are mounted over NFS all movies were played by VideoPlayer when starting a movie from Kodi! No exception! The only way to "convince" Wrapper to play a movie used to be Play using...
The only way I can understand this is WAI.
I could start Wrapper manually and play any movie, but I find it easier to mount my shares in Kodi than to create shortcuts in Wrapper.

Just to add that this was exactly the same problem i was having.

On startup after connecting to lan humedia statup screen jumps to wrapper app. Why? and how can this be helped?
Using latest android fw and latest wrapper app.
Cursor blinking in samba account name.... ??
Deleting wrapper app cache did not work.
Does it need samba account and pw to work? Tried that. Did not work :-X

Somehow you've set wrapper app to auto-start on boot.
Go to MY Apps->Wrapper and press Menu button, then select (set) "Close Start" and not the "Default Start" option.
is correct to disable it.

It seems simple enough... but did not work. Reflashed the system with latest fw android 5 again. And to my surprise Netflix was no longer available in the playstore. I could switch off and on the wrapper with startup at boot and again with no startup on boot. So works fine now. Only had to install Netflix from other source then playstore.
All works fine now.

I'm nowhere near my unit so I can't test.
What this mod version is suppose to do? After removing NFS entry from playercorefactory.xml I have no problems. At least none that was reported to me, so my "users" are happy.

Hi, i'm just in the process of updating playerfactory to get kodi player play pvr streams. What do you mean by "NFS wrapper implementation is buggy and not working when path include movie, video string"?
Currently i have my mounts with NFS and is working great with wrapper. In fact is working better that with default kodi player, some files not even play with kodi player but works great with the wrapper.
Forgot to mention, using Kodi 16. I need to update xml to allow pvr that doesn't work with wrapper.
Thanks!

I am running the latest firmware 2.0.8 for the q10 pro. My question is do I need to install the wrapper apk. If so, can someone post the link to the version I need and what settings I need for the wrapper?

It comes with the firmware:
Go to MY Apps->Wrapper and press Menu button
You can then choose which action you want. "Default start" means what is says :)
As noted above in this thread, it is simply a "playercorefactory.xml" file which tells Kodi to shell to the in-built MediaCenter player each time you press "play". There are variations you can make to suit you own requirements. I let Kodi handle low quality DVD resolutions and below, itself, when required.

This mod wrapper for nfs works very nicely with Thecus NAS (using Kodi's NFS instructions). A firmware upgrade had left SMB (that had worked without issue since new) working in MediaCenter and Kodi VideoPlayer but refusing to play or load default wrapper for videos from Kodi (except when selected by remote). I just had to change the source in Kodi to NFS instead of SMB. My other NAS's on the same Windows 10 network still work fine with SMB.
Firmware 2.0.9 - Kodi 17.6
-
I found out what the problem is, my video files are shared by NAS, kodi can read them only through its reader, while Wrapper crashes, but if one of the HD of the NAS connect it directly via USB to Q10, the same file, kodi can also read through wrapper, what can it depend on?
-
My database is shared on mysql on a NAS.
<advancedsettings>
<cache>
<buffermode>1</buffermode>
<memorysize>139460608</memorysize>
<readfactor>20</readfactor>
</cache>
<videodatabase>
<type>mysql</type>
<host>192.168.8.90</host>
<port>3306</port>
<user>kodi</user>
<pass>kodi</pass>
</videodatabase>
<musicdatabase>
<type>mysql</type>
<host>192.168.8.90</host>
<port>3306</port>
<user>kodi</user>
<pass>kodi</pass>
</musicdatabase>
<videolibrary>
<importwatchedstate>true</importwatchedstate>
<importresumepoint>true</importresumepoint>
</videolibrary>
</advancedsettings>
All the files are referenced using nfs paths.
On kodi in the mediacenter (but working elsewhere), I failed to declare a nfs source for my files. However, I can open them using nfs path using the internal player but not the wrapper (black screen).
Thus, I have mounted the nfs share thanks to the mediacenter and I can open a file now using the wrapper directly from kodi (but it is now for the wrapper a local file and not a file stored on a NAS using nfs protocol).
As I don't want to scrap everything again for this player, I wonder if it is possible to give the possibility to replace a string by another one in the wrapper configuration.
I tried to implement in the advancedsettings.xml file using the pathsubstitution command but it seems to be ignored.
<pathsubstitution>
<substitute>
<from>nfs://192.168.8.90/volume1/video/movie/</from>
<to>/mnt/nfsShare/nfs_share1/movie/</to>
</substitute>
</pathsubstitution>
Thanks
-
@frenchfrog
Did you try with CFW to get solve nfs and black screen problem?
As I know substitute not apply when external player is use.
Anyway as I remember with last 3-4 version of OFW Kodi don't have permission to access /mnt/nfsShare or /mnt/smb.

Thanks @pcristi for your reply.
I uploaded the firmware v2.1.4 which I guess is the latest available one. For kodi, I had no problem to declare my mounted nfsShare as a source. You cannot browse /mnt/nfsShare or /mnt/smb folders but if you enter directly the correct path (a subfolder like /mnt/nfsShare/nfs_share1/), you can see its content.
My solution would be that the himedia wrapper allows substitutions if needed. It seems a possible feature of the XBMC/Kodi Wrapper available in the play store.
I would like in my case to test if it is working by doing the following:
Replace URL From 1: (?i)nfs://192.168.8.90/volume1/video/movie/
Replace URL To 1: file:///mnt/nfsShare/nfs_share1/movie/
It should do the job in that case. By the way, I just noticed that I didn't started my substituted string by "file://" in my advancedsettings.xml file. I will have to check if it changes something (I am not at home right now to perform this check).
-
Additionally, I don't know if it is possible for the wrapper to retrieve the list of smb/nfs mounting points on the device. If yes, the wrapper might do the substitution by itself in that case. In that case, the user case can declare the nfs ans samba drives in the media center and the wrapper will check dynamically if there is a correspondance when the argument is not referring to a local file.
-
So, I made additional checks. The following path substitution do the trick but it has a too broader effect:
<pathsubstitution>
<substitute>
<from>nfs://192.168.8.90/volume1/video/movie/</from>
<to>file:///mnt/nfsShare/nfs_share1/movie/</to>
</substitute>
</pathsubstitution>
I am able to open nfs files using the wrapper but it has big side effects and I cannot be used that way. Indeed all my links are broken in the kodi mediacenter (kodi says that it doesn't find the movie and asks if I want to remove it from the database). The only way to access to the movies is to browse from the source folders.
Thus, the path substitution will work for sure but it has to be implemented on the wrapper itself.
