This is not exactly a bug but I have asked HiMedia to look at implementing it.

How many other people would like this feature added?

HiMedia are investigating. If it's possible to implement (which I think it is) then it will be.

with himediaplayer not work 29,970.
on remote control it's nice to be have also 23,976 ,24p selectable on "TV mode" button.  ;D

it very nice to be have same option on kodi interna player, like amolgic rockchip script on SPMC:

Auto-framerate switching for Amlogic (Needs 666 on /sys/class/display/mode)
Auto-framerate switching for Rockchip (Needs 666 on /sys/class/display/display0.HDMI/mode)

himeda q5 is great player ( say from PCH A400 user ), with this option on kodi can be one of the best andorid player.

real 23,976 and auto-switch is the greater deficiency on andorid player.   :'(

i have a Q5 Quad which is a really great player. But i have every now an then a "little stutter" (every few minutes) when watchin 1080p23.97fps movies. the 24p option in the player menu is selected

so is this because the player can't display 23.97 correct? only with 24fps?

i watch my movies on a big projector screen in native 24p and i don't think it will be noticeable on a smaller tvs, especially when you have smoothscreen or anything like this with your tv enabled...

is there anything i can do to correct this problem?

from Hi3798M V100 Brief Data Sheet there isn't 23,976 support , but i have done lot of video and test without stuttering or drop frame.

try this test

i think everything looks fine with the 1080p23.97 bar maybe the 2minutes are to short to see it. but when there is the 24fps bug, the stutter should be there every 42 seconds, so it must be something else. or it hast to do with high bitrate (eg. blu ray iso) i think the stutter is there every 3-5 minutes... and it occurs, whether its from usb hard disk or network streaming. maybe it has to do with a buffer cache or something like this...

but most of the time i notice it only if i look for it

but the 720p59fps doesn't work perfekt

right:  video 23,976 -> hdmi out 24,000 is 0,024fps --> 1 sec/ 0,024fps = 41,67 secs.

yes i havo also problem with  29,970, lot of dropframe.

it's helpful test with KODI dug  ( video 23,976 -> hdmi out 23,98 hz no shutter! ) ,but not work option "Adjust display refresh rate to match video" on it.

it's very nice modify Addon Frequency Switcher for himedia hardware.
i have try, but there isn't  "/sys/class/display/mode" himedia firmware.

Himediaplayer don't have dug i think.

all test file

...is this stuttering every few minutes something, which can be fixed with a newer firmware update?

From HiMedia:
Quote
23.987 still not supported. We pushed many times on HiSilicon company. But they still not give us exact date

thanks for the info...

so the stuttering comes from playing the 23.97fps at 24fps?

Most digitally encoded movies are encoded at 23.976 fps when they are converted from movie film (true 24fps) to NTSC DVD/Blu-Ray (30fps - the US standard). The conversion involves a technique known as 2:3 pulldown. A 23.976 digital movie played at 24fps will skip a single frame every 40 seconds.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24p

This is a very confusing problem with a lot of misinformation online. A lot of people on forums etc will refer to 24p where actually they mean 23.976p. Even some software will report that a video is 24p when it is in fact 23.976p. There's also massive confusion over what hardware supports 23.976p and what doesn't, caused by the naming confusion, it being difficult to detect the single missed frame, and misinformation from manufacturers trying to sell products. Nearly every piece of hardware outputs at 24p and not 23.976p. That is the truth.

HiMedia have been selling media players for more than 5 years and at least are aware of this issue. They will do their best.

i know... but whats the reason most player output 24fps rather than the exact fps of most movies which is 23.976?

this is nothing new and the hardware manufacturers should know this...  i really like this player, but the player dropping frames is a bit annoying  :-\

thanks for the info...

so the stuttering comes from playing the 23.97fps at 24fps?

with MotionBars test  file (short time) i don't see any shutter
when watched a film(long time) there is only 4-5 shutter.

yeah, i don't know... motion bars don't "stutter" but it has definitly something to do with the 23.97 fps, yesterday i watched "Begin Again" no micro stutter wich is 24fps native...

I identified the same problem (stutter) with some movies - example maze runner. Due to this I sold my unit. If the problem is fixed I will start a second try. In the meantime I use a chromebox...

Same problem also for me (stutter) for movie with 23.97fps.
I believe it's more easy to see this problem if you use a VP, probably with a TV is more difficult to notice.
I really like this player but I hope they can fix this problem because it's not nice to see dropping frames
