FUTEKO MINIMX. FIRMWARE. OPENELEC 7, KODI 16RC1. AMLINUXMEDIA. (20-JAN-2016)

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT WHILST IT IS VERY EASY TO INSTALL OPENELEC ON AN ANDROID MINIMX, GOING BACK TO ANDROID IS MORE COMPLICATED! IT INVOLVES USING A USB-A MALE TO USB-A MALE CABLE WITH A USB FLASH TOOL ON A WINDOWS PC.

IF YOU'RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS THEN WE WOULD ADVISE NOT TO INSTALL OPENELEC.

SEE HERE FOR INFO ON THE OPENELEC TO ANDROID INSTALL (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=565.0)

http://amlinuxmedia.com/forum/

Installation Instructions:

An update using this method will wipe everything on the box and restore to factory condition.

1. Extract the contents of the firmware archive (using an unzip app like 7zip, Winzip etc) to the root of a USB pen drive. (the USB pen drive should contain three files called 'recovery.img', 'OpenELEC......zip', factory_update_param.aml').
2. Insert the USB pen drive into any USB port of the MiniMX.
3. With the MiniMX power cable removed, use a paper clip or pen to press and hold the the pinhole restore button on the bottom of the MiniMX (on the base in one corner).
4. While keeping the restore button pressed, insert the power cable into the MiniMX.
5. Release the restore button after ~ 5 seconds.
6. The MiniMX will boot to an Android droid logo and proceed to upgrade the firmware.
7. The box will auto-reboot when finished.

DO NOT TURN OFF THE MINIMX DURING THE FIRMWARE INSTALL PROCESS!

I'm excited!!! Hope they update  to full version of Kodi on the Futeko MiniMX. I really want to buy two for my house but waiting to see if an update is coming for latest version. Hope  it will also have support for shutdown vi remote and Bluetooth working. Keeping my eyes glued to this page for updates.

How do you update from this to other versions of Openelec? I can't seem to get back into recovery mode.

You may need to reflash Android firmware 105L first: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=565.0

So my question, I just bought a MXQ Pro Plus, it's the S905 chipset with 2GRam/16GEEPRAM, and I flashed the 105L and it said successful, then just rebooted to a black screen.

Everyone says "press reset button in AV plug" well mine doesn't seem to have a reset button to press. It looks like the board was manufactured in May of this year (2016). I finally found some photos of somebody who had one made in December of last year and you can see the outline of the Reset Button and the 3 holes where it WOULD go on my board. However, I've placed a paperclip in 2 of the holes while booting up and I can't get the thing into recovery mode.

Does anyone have any answers on these new PCB?

Thanks so much!

Yes, loads.

We stopped posting individual update threads because there have been so many new firmwares and after 6.95 version updates are OTA (over the air - automatic)..

See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=537.0

This is the latest firmware (6.95.3), installation method is exactly the same as earlier versions: http://www.amlinux.ru/image/905/6.95.3.1/OpenELEC-Amlogic.aarch64-MiniMX-6.95.3.1.zip

v6.95.3.2 is out. Apparently, some stability and performance issues have been addressed, along with some CEC issues. Has anyone tested this version yet? I haven't got my MiniMX back yet otherwise I would have given it a whirl...

We'll be looking at your returned MiniMX today and should be able to fix/replace it (we'll probably replace just to be on the safe side) today also.

We'll flash 3.95.3.2 onto the box we return to you.

Not sure why the box is showing 755MB RAM, the speculation on Amlinux forum about clone boxes is not the reason. We buy direct from Beelink factory. I suspect this will be resolved in future OpenELEC firmware update. The freezing is probably related to using very heavy skins and the lower reported RAM. For most users it won't be a problem and I expect it to be fixed/improved in future firmware.

Skins tested are all skinhelper enabled:

Worth noting, this freeze also occurred when using the default Confluence and Retouched skins. I thought it may happen during caching of thumbs whilst browsing, but on a few occasions it has happened on precached movie sets, as well as the basic home menu in Confluence. This box has been exclusively setup to stream, so until the thumbnail is cached, it doesn't exist locally.

If any user can reproduce this freeze on command, I would be curious what steps cause it!

EDIT: Someone on the Amlinux thread has mentioned stability massively increased with a swapfile. I'm going to try this sometime this week. I'll report back with results!
