FAQ

* Drive mount location? All apps except the HiMedia file browser and player use Android file structure. All directories and locations are subdirectories of root, which is symbolised as /. External drives are located at /mnt/sda/sda1 (Q10 internal HDD only) and  /mnt/sdb/sdb1 then /mnt/sdb/sdb2 etc (all USB drives).

* Drive mount location in Kodi? Root file system - /mnt/sda/sda1 (Q10 internal HDD only) and root file system - /mnt/sdb/sdb1 then /mnt/sdb/sdb2 etc (all USB drives).

* How to make Kodi launch on startup? For firmware 3.0.2 and later, go to apps menu from home screen. Using remote, press menu key when hovering over app. You will see an option for 'default start'. Alternatively, there are several free apps in Play Store designed to do this. We recommend Autostart and Stay!: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.atasoglou.autostartandstay&hl=en_GB

* Maximum image sharpness? For maximum image sharpness Q5/Q10/M3 screen scale should be set to maximum and your TV/projector should be set to Screen Fit. On the Q5/Q10/M3 go Settings - Display - Screen Size Position and set all dimensions to the largest possible. Settings for your TV/projector will differ according to brand, but on a Samsung TV press the P.SIZE button on remote until you get to 'Screen Fit'.

* Stop navigation bar from popping up when mouse cursor at bottom of screen (firmware 3.0.2 only, Q5/Q10/M3) Install this update file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/c4gb03d2p3suc67/update.zip To install copy file to USB stick and go Settings - Upgrade - Local upgrade. It will only remove the navigation bar and make no other changes to your setup.

* Make internet streams play using Kodi internal player (dvdplayer) whilst local video plays using wrapper? Install ES File Explorer and change settings-display so you can view hidden files. Navigate to sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/ and replace playercorefactory.xml file with this version: http://www.mediafire.com/view/9h5dr4kc4e9e30a/playercorefactory.xml

What is the first download for ?  The hishare one

It's a Miracast sending app. You use it to send photo/music/video to a HiMedia box.

Lots of phones/tablets have this feature built in already, for instance on the creaking old Galaxy S3 I have here the Gallery app has an icon at the top for Samsung allshare (which is actually Miracast in disguise). When selected it will send any photo to the HiMedia.

All the HiMedia products we sell are set up as Miracast receivers out of the box.

Hello,

I just bought the Q10 4K3D player recently from Hong Kong. I think it's the Chinese version. Just want to ask is it possible to update/flash my firmware to HMD 1.09 which is provided from here? If so, will it brick my player due to different player version (region)? Or just happen something like the subtitle can not be shown in the Traditional Chinese.....

If you're lucky then the update won't install at all.

If you're not (or if you change the filename to try and trick the box into accepting the update) then it will permanently brick your box.

The Chinese and European hardware aren't firmware compatible.

The update is only for the Q5 4K3D, first sold in November 2014.

See firmware thread changelogs for differences between firmwares. 3.0.2 is later and incorporates all of 1.0.9.1, it is the firmware you should install if you have a Q5 4K3D.

Where did you get the device from? Can you post a link?

Hmm, is that the correct playercorefactory.xml? Looks like it is about facebook/mediafire integration, but there are no rules defined to tell the system which player to use with mp4.

What is it you want playercorefactory to do?

That playercorefactory should cause all video except defined streams to be played using Himedia player.

So does the external player Himedia Player produce better picture quality compared to the internal Kodi player?
Title: Re: HiMedia Q5/Q10 FAQ, downloads and firmware
Post by: eccles on January 22, 2016, 09:41:21 PM
Kodi doesn't officially support the chipset in the Q5/Q10 and its player is therefore software based. It works with 2D but doesn't support 24p operation or 3D iso. Passing through to the internal player gives better performance (mostly) and will give the correct frame rate on 24p capable TVs.
To qualify the "mostly" comment, occasionally the internal player throws a wobbly with odd aspect ratios coming out of 3D SBS rendering with some files. In these instances you can use the remote menu option to choose the Kodi player. This will forego 24p operation in favour of the selected frame rate of 50i/p or 60i/p and give a bit of frame slipping, most noticeable with panning shots, but the aspect ratio will be correct. Hope fully Himedia will correct this soon.

Hi All,

On doing a fresh install I found out that when installing playercorefactory.xml as per the last * instruction at the beginning of this thread...

* Make internet streams play using Kodi internal player (dvdplayer) whilst local video plays using wrapper? Install ES File Explorer and change settings-display so you can view hidden files. Navigate to sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/ and replace playercorefactory.xml file with this version: http://www.mediafire.com/view/9h5dr4kc4e9e30a/playercorefactory.xml

...that you must have run Kodi at least once or the org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/ folder(s) will not exist. I'm sure you would have worked it out but just in case someone is wondering where the folder is I thought I'd mention it.

Regards.

It sounds like something went wrong with the firmware install.

I recommend reinstalling again using the restore button on the back of the box.

Additionally you could do a Factory reset from the Android menu (Settings - More - Backup&Reset - Factory Reset) before performing the update.

Follow our instructions exactly:

Thanks, it works now!
I still have a problem only with Kodi.
It start but when I try to add some files on the video section  it show only the folder of my nas shares but not the files inside so in this way I am not able to start any movie.
If I use the LAN section of Himedia Media center I can see these files and run normally (only if Samba service is stop).
Can you please explain why?
I never see something like this on Kodi; I used also on my tablet without any problem using the same nas

Solved!
It was necessary to start the Samba service for see the movies on Kodi.
But now I see that I use Kodi video player instead of the Himedia player.
Is it still necessary to load Himediawrapper?

Finaly DTS stutter  fix.

Hiplayer subtitle to fix any problems (no external, if the unicode-encoded, end of the slanted lines indicating symbol at the end of the line of the internal subtitle files  (</i>)...) More shading around the letters.
This fault is also the Pro series.

It's very funny in 2017. We expect two years of repairs.
