Title: HDD can't be found (RESOLVED, BUT NEW PROBLEM)
Post by: tHOMIEs on January 18, 2016, 08:51:19 PM
Hello

I've tried everything

Formatting on both Mac and Windows in various formats didn't help either.

The q10 can detect the WD 3TB via USB, but not when I insert it into the q10 itself.

What to do?

After 6 hours of testing my patience (and the missus) i finally got my Q10 to accept my WD3TB, here is what i did (hope it can help others)

1: Connected my HDD to my Macbook pro and formatted the HDD to exFAT (GUID)
2: Turned on the Q10 after I inserted the HDD
3: Plugged in at 3.0 USB cable ind the Q10 and a normal USB in my Macbook, then the HDD got visible on my mac and then i formatted it again with the same format while connected to the Q10 (the HDD was inside the Q10)
4: After formatting I ejected the HDD on the MAC (not psychically) and then the HDD stopped spinning. Then I removed the USB cable from my Macbook and the HDD started spinning again inside the Q10 and it showed up in the media center. VOILA.

But it still leaves me with some problems and I hope someone can help me :)

1: It shows 2 discs in media center ( E(sda1) and F(sda2)) even though there is only 1 partition made when i Formatted the HDD

2: I can't transfer files wireless from my Macbook to the Q10, when i turned on Samba the shared folder automatically showed up un my finder menu, but when i transfer files to the sda1 or sda2 folder it tells me not enough disc space even though the it says 3 tb of space when I go into storage at the menu of the box. small files of 4 MB it transfers OK, but not big files.
There is no problem transferring via cable to the HDD and playing them, but I don't want to plug my cable in every time I want to transfer a file.

Hope there is help out there.

1. What size are the two partitions? The problem probably has to do with formatting the drive twice. I expect you have one partition of zero size which needs removing. You need to use a disk manager app to remove one partition. I've never tried this on a Mac, but with Linux 'Gparted' would be the answer. Reading some pages for 'Mac partition manager' search it gets referenced in it's live CD version. It's free vs other Mac options which are not. See here: http://www.igeeksblog.com/best-partition-manager-for-mac/

2. This is a limitation of Samba on Q10. Because internal HDD is mounted to internal mount point /mnt, Samba reports max size as max size of internal flash. It's only a limitation if your file manager app (on Mac) doesn't let you override the warning message. Many file managers will state that disk is full and then ask whether you want to continue regardless. If you continue the copy will carry on normally. So you need a file manger that lets you override the warning (or maybe the warning can be turned off in OSX Finder). I don't have a Mac to test it, but this looks like a possible: http://rixstep.com/4/0/td.shtml

Thanks for the advice

the sda1 is only 200mb, but finding it strange that i can't make 1 whole disc, when i connect it to the macbook it only shows 1 disc, but there is missing a little over 200mb of the total og 3tb, but can't figure out how to se it.

the file manager you suggested is very unstable and makes the program freeze when i select large files, so i'am back to 0 again :-(
