Title: Zidoo Z10 Pro Oscuro MM 4K can you transfer files from PC to HDD in tvbox?
Post by: DavidiaN on April 04, 2022, 07:42:44 PM
Hi,

I just bought this device. Haven't installed it yet, but was wondering, can you connect your PC (Linux in my case) by using a USB3 cable to copy over to, and from, the internal HDD that's been placed inside the Zidoo tvbox?

Or does it only work via Samba/FTP.

My old Himedia Q10 Pro could use USB3 to copy over files from my Linux PC to the internal HDD. Just wondering if this device can do the same. Some people say it can, others say u need a special USB adapter for that. Hence the question.

Unlike the Q10 Pro, the Zidoo's don't have a rear USB port to enable it to act as an external drive.
If you are using the same HDD, it will most likely be noisier than when it was inside the HiMedia (my 7200rpm 8Tb HGST was very noisy and I have changed to a quiet 5Tb 2.5" laptop drive with an adapter).

You basically need to eject the HDD and use a USB 3.0 dock or adapter for the PC.
The alternative, as you noted, is to use (slower) network file transfer.

No it does not support USB3 Slave mode but it will support SMB Server when enabled in setup. Using any platform in SMB Client mode you can then access it's HDD's. Use it all the time.
