Evening all
Thought I would post on here with the hope of an answer as opposed to me scouring the internet in learning file formats, containers and the like for several months/years (in my spare time where I've been able to!) - I understand some (not most) and certainly not inside out.
For simplicity, some of my kit is as follows;
Media Player - HiMedia Q10 Pro
NAS - Popcorn Hour A-410
Receiver - Denon AVR-X2300W
TV - Samsung UE65MU6100
All gigabit connectivity.
My issue is, is that it seems to be hit and miss as to whether the HiMedia plays the file or not. When it does, it's perfect with no issues at all. The other times it's just a black screen. I downloaded a 80GB MKV tonight and it failed to play, tried all manor of different players, installed VLC on the Q10 Pro, to no avail. Same with Kodi etc
Here are the specs of the file I downloaded; I did run it through MediaInfo and it did just say that there was only a 'lossless audio' track, although not sure if it didn't report it correctly.
BluRay 2160p UHD MULTi REMUX HEVC 10bit HDR Atmos DTS-HD MA 7 1
I read about the REMUX bit, which is essentially stripping back the BluRay to the bare files and repackaging as an MKV with no quality loss, but I could be wrong there.
Of course it could be a broken MKV, didn't want to just give up with it though due to the file size.
I've played with loads of settings. The Q10 doesn't have a local disk, I stream across the network where the data is stored on the Popcorn Hour.
I do have a few other UHD MKV files that have downloaded and played flawlessly as mentioned, I just think it's some settings somewhere or an incompatibility with the files I'm downloading.
Thanks for reading, and any help appreciated.

Something to do with tv processing?
I am in the same boat - my q10 is loaded with android 7 - 2.0.4 stock firmware and every time i start play of any movie the tv goes black on a new x90 series sony. My 12 year old panasonic has no issues what-so-ever.
I can tell you that the custom firmware 2.1.7 works fine and had no screen blackouts, ran it for a while - isuue i had with it was that the audio would sometimes not sync and arbitrarily lead or lag very noticably which was annoying hence why I downgraded. I guess that you can put up with it if the screen is super small but on large screens it gets annoying.
My other player is running the original android 5 ver 5.1.1 - and it has no problem playing on my old and new tv without issues. No screen blanking.
To summerize -
Q10 player - stock default video player used
new tv - custom 2.1.7 - video works fine (UHD and 1080p), but audio sync issues
new tv - android 7 - 2.0.4 untouched, blanks instantly when any mkv is played (even with vid setting at 1080/60hz) - works fine on older tv.
new tv - android 5 - player works fine - no black screen, audio sync is spot on - less resolution setting options (no true 4K 4096 choice - tops out at 2160) and old android that has little or no support.

i guess i missed the closing statement - would anyone have any ideas how to overcome this blanking issues on stock firmware.
I have yet to try running 2.0.4 but with the more current video player (1.2.60).
