Does anyone know if there are new models planned by the company? Or are the days of this type of box going by the wayside due to all the focus on streaming services?
-
I don't expect any new boxes from HiMedia.
Pure speculation but I think the reason for HiMedia exiting the international market was a combination of falling sales (the streaming boxes & kodi boxes have cut sales - particularly at the lower end of the market), increasing requirement for software development (the new products from Zidoo/Dune have much superior custom developed software) and the problems with Huawei in the US (Huawei are the parent of HiSilicon and HiMedia - as it stands HiMedia products would be blocked from import into the US).
These boxes still have a place in the market and continue to sell well. Not everybody wants to be beholden to a monthly subscription or pay again for content they already own.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. That is disappointing as even though I have all the streaming services. I prefer to rip and play my movies from the box as the quality is far superior than any stream I have seen yet.
In addition, I watch a lot of live concerts both officially released and fan recorded and almost none of them stream and an HTPC is not an option for my situation. I travel a lot so having a small box with a hard drive containing all my favorite movies, shows, and concerts that I can take with me is what I need.
I was just wondering my options in case my current Q10 Pro dies.

The market is till there, just without HiMedia.
