Title: Dune HD Real Vision 4K
Post by: Nice Monkey on May 20, 2021, 10:25:50 AM
This actually is a nice portable player.

I think there is a mistake in the specifications on some sites:
It says then 2x USB3.1 plus 1x USB2. I can't find that USB2 port but yes an SD-Card slot which is not mentioned. Probably they got that mixed up? It is correct here now.
With just 16 Gbyte flash that Micro SD-Card slot is actually a lot more useful than such an USB2 port.

The player seems to be a replacement for both the Dune HD Realbox 4K and the Dune HD Pro 4K II player clearly meant to be competitive on price with the Zidoo Z9X. I must say that target seems to be hit. It is close enough on price with the Realbox 4K but almost an RTD1619DR + BT5 upgraded Pro 4K II on specifications. Even the physical size is midway by stripping all non-essential ports.

What I am personally really missing is that External SATA connector but don't care about HDMI-IN being dropped. In contrary to the Realbox 4K the power provision (12v 2A) seems to be adequate here for feeding those USB3.1 ports.
Having only 2 Gbyte RAM and 16 Gbyte Flash should not impose practical limitations. It has an SD-Card slot which I tried with a 32 Gbyte SDHC card. It can be formatted as Internal Storage for Android or as general Portable Storage via Android Setup => Storage. Be aware that once formatted as Internal Storage that card may never be removed again till you do a Full Reset!  ;)

The USB port specs have been corrected. The error came from copying specs across from Solo Vision.

In fact, this morning all the Dune specs have been checked and updated. Fingers crossed they are now accurate!

I agree that Real Vision looks to be a compelling product. Very competitive on price with Zidoo, which I guess is what Dune are trying to do. Both Zidoo and Dune have their strong points and I think there is room for both.

Haha I am always picky:
"Separate wi-fi (x2) and Bluetooth antennas for improved Bluetooth signal quality"
That one seems to be copied erroneously too.

I agree there seems to be room for both. For sure expect to find enough differences.
Will be nice to compare it side-to-side with my Z9X.

I always wished we could afford a professional editor!

Thanks for the help.

Would also be very nice if you could compare the video quality with the Q10Pro?  After 4 years, a media player replacement with HDR10+ and DV is worth considering (to get the most from my Panasonic OLED).

Can Kodi be loaded successfully onto this unit, since it runs Android 9?

@Phil181 Dune players come with SPMC bundled. Don't ask me which version (can't find the about).
Picture quality is at least on par with Himedia/Egreat for plain SD/HD but better for UHD/HDR.

I am currently in dialog with Dune which by the way does respond well and take my findings serious.

Thanks for the replay @nicemonkey  ;D
I will look forward to your full assessment, as there is not much independent information around for the very new Vision series units.
My Q10Pro does quite well with HDR10 and the OLED but I do want to see what the fuss is about with DV and HDR10+ as a lot more stuff is being released with these standards.

Hi.  Took delivery of my Dune Real Vision 4K first thing this morning, just after 9 am!  Great delivery from Futeko.

This Dune has replaced my Egreat A5 and what a great replacement it is.  I'm no expert on these media players, but as a general user I must say the Real Vision has proven to be simple to set up and everything seems to work very nicely from my limited testing so far.  The Egreat was okay when it first came out, but it never worked 100% for me and unfortunately firmware development has stopped.  I never had all my DVD ISOs working properly, and not all BD ISOs were perfect.  In contrast, the Dune is playing everything I throw at it smoothly, no micro stuttering, and all DVD menus working as they should.

I must also say, the poster wall has correctly identified probably something like 95% as a guesstimate of my files, which is something the Egreat never managed for me.  For the titles the Dune doesn't match, it has some very nice features for correcting them, from editing the title to entering the IMDB database number, which I think is a great feature.  I also like the summary of titles that the poster wall has identified and been confirmed correct (by me), to those that are awaiting confirmation, and there is yet another list of unidentified titles.  This feature makes it so much easier for going back later to locate the titles that require manual corrections.

I was surprised to see how compact this unit is, quite a bit smaller than the Egreat A5, although the Dune is missing a SATA port.  I thought this would bother me, but in fact using a USB double HDD docking station has proven quite convenient.  Of course, the Egreat A5 is quite a few years old now and in that time improvements are made.

It's early days, but so far very pleased with it, especially as out of the box it just worked.  Still finding my way around all the options, but everything is logically laid out and not difficult to get used to.
