Title: Dune HD Pro 4K II Plus fails gigabit - sata interface
Post by: mianluso on January 15, 2021, 09:33:08 AM
I have a problem with the Dune HD 4K Pro II Plus (it is also discussed in the AVS Forum), the gigabit ethernet connection does not work, when the device is turned on the green light of the rj45 led turns on (it is the gigabit) but in a few seconds it turns yellow (it is 100M). The performance per network is very poor, it does not exceed 50 MB. The Samba service also crashes, possibly due to this.
I have connected another device (to verify that it is not a problem with the router or cable and the gigabit network is correct)
thanks

I have been doing tests locally (without using the ethernet connection) and I see that there is a problem with the SATA interface of the internal disk, it does not exceed 40 MB / s. In a test with a USB 3.1 disk a 300 GB copy gives me an average of 36 MB / s. With this same disk I make copies and they all go over 100 MB / s.
If the access to the internal disk has "this bottleneck" the gigabit RJ45 interface leads to this problem
They comment on this problem on the Russian Dune forum. Apparently this model no longer has OpenWrt (it is the one that provided the disk management services) and they have integrated these services (SAMBA, NFS, etc ...) in the Dune linux shell.
It doesn't matter if the disk is formatted in NTFS or EXT. (EXT goes a little better)
The operation is very bad and it is saved since with 40 MB / s high bitrate content can be reproduced but very fair.
If you try to access the Dune by SMB or NFS while copying the Dune it crashes.

From Dune:

Yellow indicator - 1 Gigabit
Green indicator - 100 Megabits

Perform a reading test on a file larger than 4GB and send a photo of the TV screen at the end of the test.
Run the test for two protocols, SAMBA / NFS.

I no longer have the Dune, I have returned it to the store
Anyway, the Dune has a serious problem with the SATA interface of the internal disk, it does not exceed 40 MB / s

As far as I can see we all have the same problem and sending those two tests will not solve our problem because I have been corresponding with them for over a month. They know very well that this is irreparable, which is why a new model of the same device came out. I feel cheated because I bought a non-functional device and it would be fair to either get our money back or replace the device with a new one. By canceling the device, they confirmed that it was technically defective, so I don't know if they will give it any further support. So far no firmware has been released. What are the rights of us customers in such situations?

This problem is on the Pro Vision 4K Solo also

I confirm it. The Vision has the same problem. :'(

Some of that maybe firmware fixable, but the speed issues may be something else.

Sheesh, I was considering this for a upgrade from the Zidoo X10.
