Dear all, I recently purchased a Q5 and I am struggling with SMB problems. I'm considering sending it back, but will try to make it work before.
- I've got a Synology DS412+. Smb shares are activated (SMB3), guest login is activated, Firewall has been turned off (just to be sure it's not the problem).
- I'm not able to mount Nas via Smb. Nothing works. It doesn't connect! I just entered the IP of the Nas (tried a couple of path and logins) and nothing works.
- I used Plex Server on my Nas. I installed Plexmbc and it works like a charm. Problem is, it doesn't use the wrapper to play media.
- I tried Plex on Q5 and it also sees the media.
- I installed Xmbc on my mac and it works perfectly via SMB.
- I tried to install Automount but I'm using a Mac, so no luck with .BAT files. Tried to make it work through VMWare but failed.
Any ideas ?
Also how can I connect to the Q5 from my computer. SSH works ?

1) hiemdia media center with SMB work?
2) try to add SMB to kodi with manual (add source), not wizard
3 ) shared folder was without passsword?
-
Looun, thanks for your answer!
1- Didn't try HiMedia Media Center. I'll see if it works.
2- Always tried with manual
3- Shared folder was without password (guest). Tested it with Xmbc on my laptop and it worked without login/password.

2) do you try "Add network location" pop-up? with ip adress
there are some post about problem with Synology and Qnap NAS, with my buffalo a never have problem

do you add smb source in kodi? until you do not do it do not see SMB folders the NAS
or
Try NFS connection, is better than SMB and working well my Syno NAS.
Only one thing, in Kodi will find under volumes folder

Tried connecting via SMB & NFS through XMBC, Media Center & Es File Explore = No Success
Tried several options on my Synology = No Success
Tried SMB share with the other Synology I own = No Success
Old Popcorn A100 is able to connect through SMB without problems.
Mac using XMBC is able to connect through SMB & NFS without problems.
I was pretty sure it was a problem with some credential and/or authorizations but I don't see anything that I can change (Firewall is permanently disconnected). All in all it's not an XMBC problem but more a Q5 SMB problem. I might do something wrong, but even if I did it's still a problem to me that it's so complicated to make it work. I will try a little bit more tonight but I think I will send it back.
I think I will stop using SMB as something is definitely wrong here and try to see what I can do with Plexmbc. When I use the plugin under XMBC it sees all my library. Problem is it doesn't use the wrapper to play the media.

Ahah! Found it and this is ridiculous! Inside the Ethernet configuration in AUTO mode it seemed that it detected all the correct setting. While turning "AUTO" off I didn't realize that the Netmask was wrong. Very odd as I don't understand how it happened.

OK. Seems to work. I will still try to convince XMBC to play medias from PLEXMBC through the wrapper.

Awww. It's struggling to play bluray encapsulated into a MKV through a SMB share? I don't see the problem as bandwidth should be more than enough!
EDIT: I installed a skin that seemed to slow down the player. Using the default one fixed the issue. Strange.

you have strange issues, flash latest firmware( recovery mode ) and start again with clean system
