The first test results of the new Dune HD Realbox 4K are already showing up.
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/39-networking-media-servers-content-streaming/3142112-dune-hd-realbox-4k-rtd1395-thread.html
What is really good news that nobody reported any kind of instabilities even giving the box a hard time. This is amazing for a new SOC. So porting FW the Dune way using its own GUI/OS seems to work out very well here.
It has above all a few quirks you need to know but then does more or less everything promised on its initial factory FW release including exact frame-rates, HDR10+ new SOC related goodies. Good expectation for HD Pro 4K II (Plus) which should be blazing fast compared.

Reader arrived in France very quickly ...... thanks to FUTEKO !!
Well yesterday I spent about ten hours, grinding it in all directions. I tried all the possible settings and especially watched the series and film in 4K!
My installation is special, but it is done, from readers to two diffusers, so that the image quality is at its peak (calibration with test patterns and my eyes). For me the image quality goes above all other criteria ......
Let's start with the annoying problem: the image quality, at first glance it is very beautiful, but very quickly in the interior or dark parts of a film, a 'posterization' effect appears especially on my SAMSUNG 82Q950 in 8K, Which for me is irremediable. In projection on my EPSON LASER EH LS 10000, no posterization but a curious image a bit like an almost unreal 'ghost' effect, finally not easy to explain.
This problem I compare with my HIMEDIA Q5 4K and my APPLE TV 4K, which do not have this effect on the screen ..................... so for I'm going to go 'green' for a while while waiting for the next major update, because currently there have been only two minor 'beta' ...........
And that's a shame, because the device is very responsive, stable, perfect auto framerate, reading ISO BD and BD 4K nickel, responsive cover software because on practically 4000 covers I had to search for it (very easily) Ten and about the same in the covers with film error!
So camera rather well born ................... on one condition that this image problem is corrected .............. ...... I leave him a year to know which reader I keep!

Can you provide an example/scene from a movie so we can check that as well?
-
., I have the RealBox and looking good so far. If you are in touch with Dune can you feedback the following to start with.
1. It would be nice if the front display could be changed to show time remaining rather than just elapsed on a movie. Other manufacturers do this.
2. I have two movies in my collection called Aftermath and a third called “The Aftermath”. Somebody has wrongly associated “The Aftermath” with one of the former two in the Dune database. So when I scrape “The Aftermath” it thinks it is one of the other two, which I already have scraped, and therefore does not show in my collection. It just doesn’t appear. I think it is affecting other movies as well and there needs to be a way to correct this.
-
I have passed this on to Dune.

Thanks ..

More ............ my image problem comes only on UHD HDR, because HDR does not connect and gives this curious image !!
So big problem with HDR ............ let's wait for a correction from DUNE, hoping that it comes quickly!

Check your HDMI cables.
No one else is experiencing such issues.
It would also be nice if you could provide specific scenes and timestamps.
-
Thanks ..
You have the option to manually input IMDB's movie number.
Why don't you do it this way?
-
don't think it comes from my cables:
'Belkin Premium Ultra HD HDMI High Speed Cable, 4K / Dolby Vision HDR10 +, Ideal for Apple TV, 2 m'
Besides with the same cable on HIMEDIA Q5 ...... no problem!
On the DUNE for HDR I tried the three different settings without success!
PS: camera broken down!

About HDR I am not alone a post on 'AVS FORUM' say:
""""""""""""Secondly, and probably more importantly, the only way to convince the box to output HDR is to set it to convert SDR to HDR, so it's full time HDR or nothing!!
If you set HDR to "auto" as most will want to, when playing HDR material it will output mostly zeros in the SEI message (as seen on the Vertex), so staying in SDR obviously resulting in the low contrast washed out presentation you get when showing HDR on an SDR monitor.
This is going to confuse a lot of people, particularly if you don't have an HDFury device to figure out what's actually going on.
So if you set HDR to "Convert SDR to HDR" this will output a valid SEI and switch to HDR, but obviously it will "convert" 709 SDR to 2020 HDR which is not really desirable.
(HDR to SDR is pretty awful, so not really worth mentioning).
And as for HDR metadata - wow!
Let's say that sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't, but it's hellishly confusing.""""""""
:-\
-
That is not true. The user revised when he connected his Vertex 2 unit.
I have a Vertex unit and can confirm that the only issue existing is when the player outputs @ 12bit & 4/2/0.
When this happens, you get 24.00 fps instead of 23.976.
But if you select EDID and as content this never happens.
HDR metadata are also transmitted.
-
So no luck for me, I tried all the possible rules for HDR and it does not pass !! ;)
-
What is your HDMI chain?
Did you try with different cables?
Here is the first Realbox 4K review at mediaplayers.gr http://mediaplayers.gr/dune-hd-realbox-4k/
-
You have the option to manually input IMDB's movie number.
Why don't you do it this way?
Because the movies does not show, since I already have Aftermath in MyCollection. The software thinks it is already scraped.
-
You can still change it manually.
-
You can still change it manually.
How exactly if it is not in the wall?
-
Go to MyCollection manage/settings and you will see all options for all titles. Found or not ;)
-
Go to MyCollection manage/settings and you will see all options for all titles. Found or not ;)
Presumably you mean - MyCollection/Collection Management/Manage Folders
Under there I have 14 folders, and in each folder all files are associated. There are no titles unfound?
When I scrape the folder with the troubled movie it comes up briefly as one new found but then disappears when I go to confirm it in edit matching between files and movies. Because it is automatically being wrongly associated by the Dune database with another movie that is in my collection as I’ve said.
-
Thanks for the link ...... very interesting!
For my installation the only way to have HDR and HDR 10+ is to connect the box directly to the diffuser ........ which is not practical for me !!
Ultimately the HDR / SDR conversion would be good enough, but it is not!
-
., I have the RealBox and looking good so far. If you are in touch with Dune can you feedback the following to start with.
From Dune:
When some movie is not recognized correctly, it is possible to manually edit the associations between files and movies and correct wrong associations (see My Collection / Collection Management).
Also, about any problems with indexing of movies in My Collection, it would be nice to get additional information (besides of just movie title):
after some problem is found, go to Setup / Misc / Support and press "Send debug dump" button.
The player will show the Dump ID on the TV screen.
Then email problem description and this Dump ID to support@dune-hd.com.
-
Thanks, I will send a problem report to Dune.

Hello to everyone! Thank you, Futeko, for the swift delivery. I received my Realbox player yesterday and set it up last night. First issues I found were three:
1. Dune apps that can be added are only two, specified for Russia.
2. When I install Android apps through my gmail account they crash and would not work. Made Tidal work for one song then started crashing again. Kodi seems to work, but I don't use it, it was installed just for testing.
2. I did set up a UPnP connection to my Win 10 laptop and all is playing well. However, this morning the player suddenly stopped "seeing"subtitles that are on the PC. If I put a flash drive it sees and plays them.
I would appreciate some insights as the above are quite disappointing. I upgraded to Dune to avoid similar issues with Chinese Android based players that were 1/4th the price... Thank you in advance!
-
Personally I always have a problem with the HDR which does not pass on my installation !!
What is strange is that the HIMEDIA Q5 connected with the same cable and therefore the same circuit passes very well the HDR ................
I am a little disappointed and I have to use these two readers to read my files: 1 for everything that is not HDR and the other for everything that is HDR !!!
Not ideal !!

Hi,
Realbox 4K Android version is 7. Can I hope upgrade to Android 9 in near future?
Thanks
-
Realbox 4K Android version is 7. Can I hope upgrade to Android 9 in near future?
From Dune: "RealBox 4K is currently running Android 7.1; the most stable available Realtek SDK for RTD1395 uses Android 7.1; theoretically RealBox 4K could upgrade to Android 9 in future, but it is not planned right now."
In my opinion the Android version doesn't matter much for media players. Better to go for extreme stability and a full feature set working perfectly.
-
I purchased this box from futeko delivery took 2 days so that was a good start
Well I have a pch 200, pch 300, pch 400 and a pch 500 and they were really good and I used YAMJ to provide the movie wall. performance was rock solid and once YAMJ was set up simplicity itself to use. Yes you lost the menu with the 400 and 500 series but menus were very slow and sketchy with the 200/300 units
When popcorn the company "died" oh for a 4K 600 series. I got an Solo 4K. never really liked it My Collection was cumbersome and I never got the hang of yaDIS. so i was bumbling along for about two years until I picked up a Sinclair Spectrum the "OPPO media box". Now this is brilliant no movie wall but flawless DVD/BD/UHD image playback as it should as it is a oppo 203 without the drive. But I do want a movie wall.
So a week ago I dusted off the Solo reinstalled it and finally got to grips with yaDIS following a number of posts from Markswift (AVForums etc) . What a joy to use scraping is brilliant yes a bit short on some features mainly selection of different disk versions, for example a DVD, BD or the UHD of a movie but I could work around this. So as this could be a solution to the movie/tv wall and get BD menus I decided to get this realbox 4K, "only" £150.00 so what have I got to lose. My intent was to team it up with yadis and I felt I was 80% of my way back to my preferred pch/YAMJ system.
I should add that I also have a zidoo z9s and was using HT2/3 but it keeps stalling on large librarys and the menu and seamless branching issues are getting on my nerves.
So now to the realbox 4K Now bear in mind that I have only had two days with this and only spent about 3 hours playing with it
Now this is small. Plugged it in it sets itself up and we have a Dune in all its glory. Yes the menu could be more modern but it works and you know were everything is How can I put it "it's comfy"
Set up the networking loaded yadis from the NAS and bang there it is menus etc even Avatar, the JohnWick discs Thor Raganarok you name it they work
So it thought I would try out My Collection.
Same operation as before so I did not hold out for much.
Boy was I wrong. What have they done.
It is nothing like the "My Collection" on the Solo 4K. Yes the Movie wall and how to present it is still "clunky but once you get a view that you like it's not bad at all
Limited editing of posters etc but the scraping has improved to an amazing extent and then I tried tv shows. If anything the scraping of these exceeds the move scraper. It was not like this and it is not like this in the Solo 4k Dune have transformed My Collection
Not up to the eye candy of the zidoo wall and My Collection and HT3 suffer from the lack of external editing and NAS storage so you can't have one database. The backup and restore on the of HT2/3 is a decent workaround . My Collection is "fixed" to each box so you cannot share the generated database But performance wise it actually give yaDIS a good run for the money. It also "stacks" the disc editions/ and you can select which one to play.
The Video performance is amazing especially when compared to the Solo 4k image quality is very good . Downscaling and hdr to sdr is good you can also as in the z9s "force" dd from True HD . So I can use this on my 1080p tv and non True HD soundbar as well as my 4K projector and HDMI2 receiver until it's big brother the 4K II comes out
Accessing the android setup gives you all the developer mods as per the Ziddo z9s. It also acts as a wifi hot spot.
I cannot find how to use have external system storage which would allow "unlimited" My Collection database size. Currently it is using "flash" memory of the unit. I have tried the "legacy" scripts but these report that they are not compatible.
Yes some limitations but in my opinion these are very few and it is very early days. I will definitely get the Pro 4K II for the projector but really apart from the system storage issue which has not really effected anything yet.
Well I think we are getting close to a one box solution maybe not the Pro4K II but possibly the next generation. But if this box is anything to go by the pro 4k II potentially only offers an incremental improvement on this box.
I think this box is simply amazing and really Dune seemed to have nailed the actual operating system and if they could make more improvements to My Collection such as external storage and editing there is a lot to look forward to in the Dune camp.
Yes i am sure that there are some image processing flaws but dare I say it this would be nitpicking
Did I mention that this box is brilliant and only £150.00 This sets a high bar indeed for the 16xx SOC units to come
If the 16xx SOC offers 10-15% more performance whatever that can bring to the party then they should be astounding boxes .
The Realbox 4K is a bargain
Now a question/request for Dune. How can I add/initiate system storage on a micro sd/usb hdd or a thumb drive. I would seem that this feature is not available in the current firmware. Tried reinstalling firmware with a formatted empty ext3 micro sd no joy
Can Dune add this feature via a firmware update for the Realbox?
Is this going to be in the upcoming 1619 unit? or do we have to wait for a model with internal drive capability?
-

Using an SD-Card for Internal storage is an Android feature and should come bundled with the Android OS.
If not made available under Android Storage/Memory setup and formatting then it won't work.
-
The option to format as internal is there, but you need a pointing device (mouse, airmouse) to access it.
Insert micro-SD card.
Go Setup - System - Storage.
You should see the SD card listed, select it using the pointing device.
Select the menu icon at top right (three vertical dots).
Select 'Storage settings'
Select 'Format as internal'
-
Thanks
Dis this
formatted as internal storage
Now how do I get My Collection to use it rather than flash
I rebooted, reinstalled the firmware
also deleted al the existing database removed all storage reinstalled firmware etc but -Collection Management - Data storage is still Flash not internal

Good to hear this actually is supported. Great use of the micro SD-slot in my view.
Now you got me confused. Android knows 2 types of memory only: Internal or Portable.
- Portable is just like an USB-Stick and temporary storage with Plug&Play.
- Internal is flash memory and assigned permanently and may not be removed once committed.
How Android uses and decides to use the Internal Flash plus the added Flash SD-Card? I recall that App's memory allocations can be moved from Internal to the SD-Card?
-
So What i have now is the sd card and (and this also applies to usb stick) setup as internal memory
I can move apps onto this for example I moved the Aptodide app from i assume the "16Gb" memory to the 119gb sd card
But I cannot find a "My Collection" app I assume that there is a Dune HD system app which I assume is the shell/skin
On the Solo 4K when you configure system memory then when you go into "collection management" - "data storage it asks you if you wish to use system storage to store the "database". The initial 2Gb partition can be extended by taking the drive (once you turn the Solo off) and resizing the partition to whatever you want using standard windows partition manager programs then reinstall and you good to go
It is here that the Dune firmware in this unit falls down it will not switch/transfer to the additional extended internal memory but stays with the base Android memory
Do I have to root the box to see the data as the storage is being used but I cannot see it in any of the folders that I am allowed to view Or do I have to install one of these apps that move apps from the internal to extended /added storage and then they use symlinks to "trick" the operating system that the app is in it's original place. These require a rooted system
-
Thanks, I will send a problem report to Dune.
A month has now gone by. Dune acknowledged my problem report and then no further response. For the last three years I’ve been getting pretty much same day responses from Zappiti so Dune support is poor by comparison.
-
Been playing at greater length with My Collection.
Allowing "see hidden files" in setup ... does not reveal the internal memory storage of the My Collection database so I assume you need to "root" the box to view
My Collection will not use the "added" internal memory from the sd card (nor usb if configured as internal memory). I have tried to see if it is used by "filling" up the database as much as possible. All that happens is that as the memory is filled it comes a point with approx. 6Gb free memory that the box becomes "unstable" and My Collection starts crashing especially if you select view all and all genres and so
Can Dune update the firmware to allow a choice of where to store the "database" such as;
1) Internal configured additional memory
2) NAS location
3) external memory ie sd card, usb flash or disk.
I would assume that this applies to the forthcoming HD Pro 4K II.
You have more internal memory on this unit to play with to start!
-
I recommend emailing Dune directly using support@dune-hd.com.
Adding user definable location for database storage is a good idea, and it wouldn't seem difficult to implement. Out of interest, just how big is your My Collection database?
-
It's difficult to say what the size of the database is but my collection of tv and film uses about 80Tb of NAS storage another large increase is planned is on the list now that 14Tb hdd are becoming available
Currently My yaDIS database is is 75Gb on disk but this is not fully setup it has my TV episodes and roughly 20% of the films. Now that 4K is out this is increasing my storage requirements as I prefer full iso's
When I used YAMJ the size of the database was about 150Gb
I cannot get my head around how My Collection "stores it's data I assume that it is a sql database and only pulls the images from the internet as and when required? even though it implies that it stores the info
-

You’ve got a choice in settings. You can either specify to bring back the pics from the internet or store them locally. I’ve got all posters, fan art etc... stored locally for 1700 movies and still got 9.5Gb of the fast flash memory left. In the bad old Solo days there would not have been enough memory to store a collection of that size. But in fairness it does bring the posters from the internet fairly quickly anyway.

Got a new Dune box. Quite an upgrade from WD-TV Live :). But I am missing one feature - in My Collections player does not mark which movies I already watched. Very useful for TV series.
I missed it or there is no such feature on Dune?
-
No there is not. Hopefully Once they get the firmware locked down more development can be undertaken on My Collection to improve and add features.
-
+1 to improve 'My Collection' a lot is missing, especially compared to the Zidoo!
There should be rankings for 4K UHD, Blu-ray, latest scrapper etc .......
-
What is happening with this nice little box? Dune pulled the plug on it?
Pushed out of the market with Zidoo Z9X?

New beta firmware for the Realbox today, ID 3200.
-
I've had all manner of media boxes of the years (but not as many as NiceMonkey lol).
I'm still waiting for one that can play Forced Subtitles automagically like a Blu Ray player can. This has always been the sticking point for me.
Bet this box has issues playing Forced Subtitles for 2D & 3D iso......

Hi,
I have old DUNE H1 with hard disk inside. My Windows PC can access files on this HDD over home network.
Also I have new Dune RealBox 4K and it can not access files on old Dune HDD.
I think this is because old DUNE uses SMBv1 protocol. How can I enable SMBv1 on new RealBox 4K?
Maybe there are some other ways to access files on old Dune from new Dune?
Thanks
-
Hi,
last week I received the Realbox 4K and I have some problems with:
1.) Zoom takes no effect (only "make wider" and "make Smaller")
2.) There is no new feature: Added "Setup / Misc / Display / Brightness" in Version "200910_2300_r14" ("Display" is not shown in the Setup/Misc Section)
3.) Normally all my Dune Players start in standby after switching on the socket, but the Realbox boots completely
4.) Self-made m2ts-file only Audio will be played (no video)
I'm using Dune Players vor over 10 years (Dune Base 3.0, TV101, TV303D, Base 3D, Solo Lite 4k), so far every problem could be solved. But Factory Reset, Firmware Downgrade, Firmware Upgrade brought no solution, so either the Realbox is defective or the firmware is faulty.
Thanks for your support!
-
1. For me pressing zoom button on remote I get: Normal, full screen, stretch to full screen, enlarge, make wider, make taller, cut edges, custom (zoom factor, aspect ratio correction, shift).
2. True. Not sure what happened to this setting. I will email Dune.
3. The power on behaviour can be defined at Setup - Miscellaneous - Power Management.
4. Please give more info about the file (mediainfo). Realbox 4K uses a different chipset to the players you list so details of format support will be different.
-
Hi,
thank you for your very fast answer.
1.) I have the same possibilities, but no one has an effect to the picture (only "make wider" and "make taller")
3.) Power on behavier -> I know these settings, but they have no effekt (every time "full" booting, not to "Standby" after switching on the wireless socket)
4.) Format : BDAV at 21,9 Mb/s
Length : 3,24 GiB for 21 min 9s 131 ms
Video #0 : AVC at 19,5 Mb/s
Aspect : x ()
Audio #0 : PCM at 1 536 kb/s
Infos : 2 Kanäle, 48,0 kHz

I do have a problem with my brandnew Dune HD realbox 4k (RTD 1395, model: TV-175x, fw: 200907_2332_r14).
I cannot setup a connection to my Asustor NAS via samba. I found this user manual:
https://dune-hd.com/media/QSG/Dune_HD_DUO_4K_User_Manual.pdf (https://dune-hd.com/media/QSG/Dune_HD_DUO_4K_User_Manual.pdf) ,
and followed the instructions on page 12. So - as far as I understand - the problem is, that I need to set a folder called "Media", but it saves it in small letters. I.e., when I use the "Pop Up Menu" button and select "info" it always shows me this: "media". But the first letter must be a capital letter!
I really tried everything:
- to write it with the remote control
- to write it with the remote control AND entering the virtual keyboard before
- I do have an Orbsmart-like mini keyboard, and used it to fill up everything, but the same result
The same holds for the item "server name", everything is saved in small letters, but I set it up in camel-toe style ("XxxMediaCenter").
So, this is probably a bug?!
UPDATE:
I tried to connect via UPnP and it worked! That is strange!
But still no connection via smb. I also tried different samba settings of my NAS. Did not worked!
I also created a new folder on my NAS called "test", AND a new user named "test" even with a password only with small letters, so everything is in small letters. No, no chance! Did not work either! What the hell is going on here?!
-
OMG, I am so stupid! I mistaken the items "server" and "name"!
The item "name" has to contain the name of the server e.g. "MyMediaSever", whereas the item "server" has to contain the ip address, e.g. "192.168.100.25".
After I changed the setting on my dune box it finally worked!
Sorry!

when I start any android app or want to setup the android environment the screen is not completely visible, but it is somewhat cropped.
Here is an example of the chrome browser:

How can I change that?

I do have another question. Right beside the front display there is a blue led which is just too bright. Is it possible to turn it off?
I mean, I do not understand why one needs that led at all? The display shows everything that is neccessary!

Hi,
thank you for your very fast answer.
Hi,
if these things are individual problems of my Realbox only, get I a RMA-Number to send back for replacement, or how are the next steps?
Thanks!

1. It must be something to do with the particular video. I get all working options. What aspect is the video? What format?
2. The power settings presume the box has been left in standby. The box does not allow you to change power on behaviour from power on. If you want this feature adding I suggest support@dune-hd.com
4. From the info you supply it looks like it should play. If you want to send a short sample I can test it here.

Probably a problem with your TV settings.
Either:
Disable overscan in TV settings for the HDMI port the Dune is plugged into.
Or, possibly, the Dune is outputting in RGB mode when it should be YCbCr (caused by the EDID for your TV indicating that it is a monitor). In Dune settings go System - Developer options - Video Color Mode - Choose one of the YCbCr modes. Also change System - Developer options - HDMI Range Mode to 'Limited range'.

Not possible to turn it off. Email support@dune-hd.com to request that it be made possible.

Hi,
1. The zoom function does not work with any of my videos (m2ts, wmv, mp4 ...), so I am assuming a defect.
2. With the delivery firmware (200907) boot to standby worked fine like all my Dune players, after updating to 200910 it no longer worked. 200907 will not displayed any more in the firmware section, so I can't downgrade for testing.
4. Unfortunately I don't have a short sample, I will think of another solution

Yes, you are in deed right! I had to change my TV settings from "16:9" to "dot-by-dot".
Thanks!

Hi, just a quick question. Apologies if this is not the right topic! Can the Realbox play 4k Blu-ray BDMV/ISO from an external HDD, if it's connected via the USB ports? Also do you have an option of selecting external subtitles to load when playing a Blu-ray disc? Thank you in advance for the infos!

The word "Reader" was used in the OP. Would someone tell me WTF that means?? ???
Was that suppose to be "Realbox"?

I think it's a translation of 'player' from french into english.
