Title: Parental control app
Post by: navporky on April 01, 2020, 02:59:10 AM
Hi,

I have been using "DinnerTime Plus" app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.dinnertimeplus&hl=en_US) on my other android devices and I am satisfied with functionality implementation.

I needed the same working on my Q10 Pro, which will be treated as a "kid" device. Though the application successfully gets launched but it doesn't show the linking code required to add the kid device in the parent's app, even though it displays pop-ups that its fetching the linking code. I connected with the support desk with details of the issue along with the device details and they reverted stating that they don't support Android TV yet. Their FAQs only mention need of Google Play to be installed, which is also there on the Q10 Pro.

While I understand that there are alternates, but if I wanted to make it work, is it possible to identify the missing google services so that it can be installed to make it work?

Thanks.

Do you have the Android TV firmware installed?

I dont think so;  I am on OFFICIAL Q10 PRO FIRMWARE. FUTEKO. HMD-2.1.4 2019-05-31 (https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=4341.0)

The official firmware isn't "Android TV" is more like a large tablet one, the playstore is the same as any other device.
I don't really understood the problem, where's the parent app installed?

I know but DinnerTime support has taken that position wrongly. Hence, was wondering if there are some additional libraries or google application could be identified, which if installed will resolve this issue.

The app is installed on the Q10 Pro itself - where I want to control the application availability and total time allowed per app, which DinnerTime manages well. The same application on the Parent device (say may android handphone), will allows me to set all these controls  for the list of applications available on kid's device (Q10 pro in this case) remotely.

The linking code should appear in the Q10? Are the two devices in the same wifi network?

Yes, it should appear on Q10, which needs to be manually entered on the parent device.

Both are currently on the same network, though they need not be. This app works even if both devices are connected to internet via different networks - wifi or others. It apparently connects via their hosted webservice, not app to app on the local network. This is to authenticate the number of devices added as kid device, as the license has restrictions to a certain number of kid devices.

Could you take a picture of the problem? Have you tried to use a mouse or the mouse function in the remote to get the code?

PFA the screenshots. No code displayed after refresh. And, I have tried a lot of things, including the mouse suggestion.

Please suggest.

I installed it in my box, had the same problem. You can send an email to export@himedia.cn with the screen shots, perhaps they can help.
