Title: unplugging usb drive everytime i get new video any better suggestions?
Post by: haxel66 on December 14, 2015, 02:49:44 PM
himedia q5/pc/usb harddrives

I have my videos on 2 usb hard drives and at the moment i unplug them from computer when i get a new video and then plug them into the himedia q5 device they are both next to eachother.

I would like a way of leaving the usb hard drives permanently into the himedia q5 and transfering the files from computer to the himedia usb drives

I tried so far smb shareing and found that large files takes 20+ mins to transfer from pc to q5 usb

I was thinking of a new router with usb ports or any other suggestions please? just dont want to be unplugging and plugging in everytime get new video just because dont think its good for ports and also it seems to mess up my kodi locations i dont know if this is because sometimes plugging into different port.  On pc i had a way of assigning usb drives their own letters which works well as i put them to M and N and they dont seem to have any probs.

Hope i made sense

Many Thanks
Haxel

If Samba sharing is too slow for you then you could try one of the Android FTP server apps.

There are several, and all the ones I've tested only work with wi-fi not ethernet (being primarily designed for phones).

Of the ones I've tested I'd recommend 'FTPServer - Andreas Liebig'. It will run in the background on the Q5 and I've got ~ 6MB/s speeds downloading from USB storage attached to Q5 to a PC running Filezilla.

Things to note are that I couldn't get it to work without setting an FTP password, I used port 2221, and Default Directory should be / so you can access attached storage at /mnt/sdb.
