Hi,
I would like to use Google Now with the voice command OK Google on an android box. As far as I have seen the Himedia H8 does not have a built in microphone. Does anybody know if it would work with an USB microphone such as http://bit.ly/1Qh2eaa ?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Flo

Hi,
I got in touch with the Himedia support about this topic. Here is there reply:
--
On the version 1.0.7 , we have a camera accessory, which could take care of your concern. But if your box is the early version. it do not have the camera accessory. I am sorry about that.

I am not 100% sure what it means, but I assume that if you connect a USB webcam with an integrated microphone it might work. Can anybody confirm?
Cheers,
Flo

My guess her comments are about the H8 hardware version that you own, it should have different H8 hardware versions and earliest ones are not compatible?

Hi,
I asked them again what they mean with their statement written above.
"It depends on the specific version. Please check your firmware version under the menu: setting\about\device info. if the version is HMD-1.0.7 2015-11-10.142431 or later. Then it could support USB webcam with integrated microphone."
So a webcam is supported, a cheap microphone like http://bit.ly/1Qh2eaa probably not.

Thanks for sharing your information.
Being compatible with a webcam with microphone is fair enough in my opinion, webcams are also cheap these days, I guess just need to find a webcam compatible with Linux or Android OS that it may do the trick

Hi,
I'd like to pick up this topic again. Has anybody tried to connect a Webcam with an integrated mic? Is the microphone always on or does it only work if you start an app like Skype?
The "mic always on" functionality would be needed for voice controlling the device via Google Now or Tasker AutoVoice.
I just want to be sure before I buy a webcam.
Thanks!

Just tested with a Logitech webcam and it works.
With Google Now launcher installed I can happily shout at the H8 and it responds.
Not happy with 'futeko' being understood as 'potato' though!

Great, can you please confirm the model name of the webcam?

It was a C-270: http://support.logitech.com/en_us/product/hd-webcam-c270
I'm 99% sure all Logitech webcams will work.

This is great news! Thanks a lot for testing. I will get the C270 as well.
