Title: Not able to play uhd movies
Post by: Farid on July 14, 2018, 04:34:43 PM
Received my long awaited dune pro 4k. Cannot play uhd movies either thru internal player or android players. Already upgraded to latest firmware.

UHD movies should and do play well on Dune 4K, and only UHD video not playing would be a very unusual problem to have. Almost certainly not a hardware problem.

Can you give more info about how they don't play? i.e. not play at all, not play correctly?

Can you post a photo of the Setup - Video screen?

It just don't play at all. After sometime the attached message appeared. Tried both Bluray UHD movies as well as mkv and used SATA or USB hardisk.

Your video settings look correct.

Did the box update to latest firmware? A factory reset followed by updating firmware to latest should fix the pop-up message error.

Have updated to latest firmware and done factory reset. Still same issue.

It sounds like a problem where your TV cannot display the UHD output.

If you set the Dune to 1080p output and play the UHD files (so Dune downscales) do they play? If they do, then try changing the 4K and colour depth settings until you find correct settings for your TV.

Apart from that, you are welcome to return. Email us.

I received the Dune HD Pro today.

I have the same Problem :(. I am testing on a 1080p monitor. Full HD MKV no Problem. UHD MKV just a black screen. The menu is still reacting, but I can not stop the playback.

I tried several options reduced colour depth, framerate and so on. Makes no difference.

I have the same Problem . I am testing on a 1080p monitor. Full HD MKV no Problem. UHD MKV just a black screen. The menu is still reacting, but I can not stop the playback. And x265 format video files same problem just give a black screen than reset Dune HD Pro 4k box.

I can not play 3d video on Dune DH Pro 4k .

I tried several options reduced colour depth, framerate and so on. Makes no difference.

I tested on epson tw-5100 3d 3lcd projector and Samsung 43KU7000 UHD tv.

Does this play? http://jell.yfish.us/media/jellyfish-140-mbps-4k-uhd-hevc-10bit.mkv

I've seen a few reports of this problem. It's a strange one because it is only a very small minority of users reporting it.

I can't see how it could be hardware fault because it's so marginal (only on certain format video), but I have no clue as to what might be the cause. I will report it back to Dune and see what they say.

I tried to playback two of the HEVC Jellyfish Video Bitrate Test Files.  One in HD one 4K. Nope, just a black screen.

Quite disapointing performance for media box, which should meet the latest standards :o.

Could you get a response from the manufacturer.

I have a qnap ts-869 pro. I use the Dune HD Pro 4k with qnap. When I started x265 video 1080p or 4k dune give black screen but sometimes give only audio. This problem has when I played only x265 video. x264 video work fine and picture and audio quality perfect. It turns off and restarts itself as it does not display on some x265 videos. When I tested Jellyfish videos, I did not see a problem with only x264 format ones. However, the problem with the black screen continued in the x265 and 10bit ones. When I selected the player as an external player, some x265 videos came out.But most of the problems continued in the same way.I think that my device may be defective.Because there are not many problems with this kind of user.

Everyone wish good forums.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Try this:
1. Connect to a none 4K TV, play something, than go back to a 4K TV set!
or
2. Set the video output to 4K/30 or 4K/24 Hz fixed (not automatic), turn off deep colour! On your TV/AVR be sure you connected the Pro 4K to a HDMI2.0 port (sometimes there are 1.4 and 2.0 ports too on the same device), and set "Enhanced" option for the given HDMI input, if there is such option on your TV/AVR!

It is not a hardware problem but a HDMI handshake only.

I did what you said. I have the same problem even though I turned off the color depth. I tried it on different HDMI cables. I made the necessary settings on both 4K TV and also made settings for EPSON projection, but the result is always the same.

Dune have read this thread and are looking into it.

We (futeko) have a box with this reported problem on it's way back to us, so it will be interesting to test whether it displays these symptoms when tested by us in an environment in which we know other Dune 4K Pro work normally.

Dear Admin,
Thank you for your help in the beginning. I do not use media player for the first time. I have used many brands and model media players before. I only used models like PRIME 3D, DUO, TV 301, BASE 3D that belong to the Dune brand. I used the Himedia Q10 Pro. I just sold himedia q10 pro media player to get the Dune HD Pro 4k. As you said, the fact that very few users have this problem does not mean that the product will not be faulty. I reach this result from here.

I think, because this happens only with 4K video of a certain format, it is most likely an incompatibility problem and will be resolved in software.

Dune are investigating, and when we get a box back with the reported problem it will go a long way to determining whether this is a incompatibility (handshaking or similar) problem or hardware.

My media player has no problem with only 4k videos. I have the same problem with all x265 videos. (x265 1080p / x265 1080p 10bit / x265 4k / x265 4k 10bit)  Some x265 10bit videos also display a green image on the screen. However, most videos also come with a black screen.

On the forum hdtv.ru tode complain about a problem with hevc files. I ordered Dune in December and got it in April. I do not observe problems with hevc. All files from http://jell.yfish.us/ are played smoothly, even jellyfish-400-mbps-4k-uhd-hevc-10bit.mkv.

Don't use dune hdmi cable.
Same problem here {green image} until i replaced the cable.

for h265 , please try that solution:

delete two plugins (Extended EPG and IPTV) from settings->miscellaneous->plugins

turn off/on with the switch on the back panel

"delete two plugins (Extended EPG and IPTV) from settings->miscellaneous->plugins"

I tried that too. I also used different HDMI cable types.  Makes no difference, just a black screen. The Menu is still reacting, but no playback of HEVC content possible.  I can not test the player on a 4k TV. But the player should be able to downscale and decode HEVC.

I also have a Egreat and Himedia player. They have no Problem with HEVC content. I will ask for a refund.

Strange

I also had exact the same problem, out of the box, but when I removed those plugins and physically rebooted the box it started playing any content

just to add .. I removed all (iptv, epg, android, etc..), the problem comes back after i turn off the device with the button on the remote! switch on the back works every time good for me!

As described, this sounds like a HDMI handshaking problem. I'm sure it will be resolved in future firmware..

The plugin fix worked on the Dune we had returned with this reported problem. It played HEVC fine after plugin removal and hard reboot.

That the fix worked for us is good news. It would appear to rule out a hardware problem.

Dune has been sent the results of our testing and are working on a fix. I expect it to be fixed in next firmware.

Farid, after plugin removal did you turn power on/off with button on back? Apart from that I would recommend a firmware reinstall, and if that doesn't work initially then try the plugin removal fix again.

Finally able to play HEVC files after reinstalling firmware. But not stable. Sometimes cannot play, need to hard reboot a few times.
