Title: HiControl with Q10 without network?
Post by: P_Cherry on November 03, 2015, 10:43:53 AM
Hi,
when my Q10 and tablet is using the same network I can use HiControl without any problems.
But is there any possibility or workaround to connect Q10 and HiControl on places without network (eg. some direct wifi connection between Q10 and tablet)?
Maybe to set tablet as access point and connect Q10 to it?
Thanks
Peter

HiControl is designed to work with the Q5/Q10/M3 on the same network as the phone/tablet. I can't see an easy way of getting it work otherwise.

@futeko: Are you sure it is not possible through some Wifi Direct or Portable AP application?

I am not 100% sure, but I don't know how it would be done.

You'd need the Q10 and Hicontrol both on the same network.

My idea is to enable AP on tablet (Tethering) and connect Q10 to this wifi (so it means both devices should be on the same network).

I have just tested AP tethering using a Samsung Galaxy S3 running unofficial CyanogenMod 12.1 (Android 5.1.1) and HiControl 5 / MyBOX (http://www.mediafire.com/download/l2cvt29f6pvcwd0/HandsetForMultiScreen2705.apk).

Everything worked except for screen mirroring, which I suspect is a problem with the unofficial Android 5.1.1 loaded onto my S3. Screen mirroring never works on this phone.

So, the remote control part of HiControl worked perfectly, launching apps works.

I'm quite confident that if using a phone where mirroring works as normal then you'd get full HiControl functionality.

Of course, a problem would be that you'd be unable to access network files on the Q5/Q10 because the box would be connected to your phone wi-fi, but if you use locally attached storage this wouldn't be a problem.

Thank you very much, I can confirm it works for me (Q10 set as Access point and Asus tablet connected to it).
